Can Burnley pull of a Premier League great escape?

News Insights

  • Having torn up the Championship last season, much was expected of Burnley in the EPL.
  • However, the Clarets have struggled massively in the Premier League.
  • Vincent Kompany’s side have only won 3 Premier League games this term.
  • They have a 7-point gap between themselves and safety.

Gaining promotion from the Championship is one thing but the manner in which Burnley managed to climb into the Premier League caught the eye with many EPL betting sites

The Clarets brought a hugely entertaining brand of football to English football’s second tier, and much was expected of them in the Premier League.

However, as the end of the season beckons, Burnley are firmly in the relegation shakeup and have serious work to do if they are to preserve their EPL status.

Cutting up the Championship

Getting promoted to the Premier League will always be the ultimate aim for a team like Burnley but their 2022/23 Championship season was record breaking.

Vincent Kompany’s side picked up 101 points, only losing 3 of 46 games played and they impressed regularly with their consistent performances.

Of course, all punters and EPL betting sites are fully aware in the gulf in quality between the Championship and the Premier League but Burnley were expected to hold their own in the top flight this term.

Yo-yo Clarets

Going up in the summer of 2023 was the third time in the last decade that Burnley had been promoted in the last decade.

Under Sean Dyche, the Clarets had always been tough to beat, and their pragmatism held them in decent stead in the EPL.

The manner in which Vincent Kompany’s side were promoted, however, led many pundits to believe that Burnley had shook off the yo-yo tag.

Is it too late?

Burnley have shown some signs of making progress on many occasions this season but with just 3 wins from 25 games played, the problems are clear for all to see.

Luton Town and Everton sit perilously above them in the relegation scrap, with the likes of Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth above them.

Overhauling a 7-point gap with just over 10 games to play would be a huge achievement and currently, Burnley look a long shot to stay up this season at $19.00 with BoomBet
