The glory days at Richmond in the mid to late 2010’s are synonymous with one man, Trent Cotchin.
Being drafted back in 2007 and making his debut in 2008, Cotchin’s influence on proceedings at Richmond have been the back bone of the side.
Three AFL triumphs in 2017, 2019 and 2020 – as well as a Brownlow Medal in 2012, are testament to the incredible career Trent Cotchin has had.
A decade at the top
Whilst it has been a tough 2023 AFL season for Richmond, Trent Cotchin has been synonymous with success during his time with the club.
Being the captain responsible for breaking the 37-year duck in 2017 and then backing it up in 2019 and 2020 has etched Cotchin into AFL folklore.
The big question mark for Richmond is where they go as a club following his departure.
Too late for Richmond in 2023?
Losing Trent Cotchin at the end of the 2023 season will be seen as a blow to all associated with Richmond.
However, the departure of Cotchin will have little impact on this season, with Richmond sitting in 13th place in the AFL table.

Brownlow Medal still up for grabs
It may come as a surprise to many that despite his continued consistency throughout his career, Trent Cotchin only picked up the Brownlow Medal once.
His 2012 Brownlow Medal win marked a campaign of personal highs for Cotchin, who as the favourite throughout the season with established and new betting sites.
