Best Australian Open 2024 Multi Bet for Round Two

Round one of the 2024 Australian Open is complete, and it hasn’t been without upsets. With several seeds falling early in the men’s and women’s draws, who will go home next? We break down the latest odds from Aussie bookmakers and outline the best multi bet to make ahead of round two.

Ugo Humbert vs Zhilei Zhang

Melbourne Park, 18th January 2024, time TBC

Zhang to defeat Humbert @ 2.75 (Bet365)

Regardless of the outcome, this is going to be a brilliant second round match. However, we believe it will be Zhang who comes away with the win here.

The Chinese player has been on the rise the last six months and comes into this clash with some healthy form. Earlier this year, Zhang beat world number 31 Jiri Lehecka, who has since won a title in Adelaide. Late last year, Zhang tipped over Hubert Hurkacz, now the world number nine, to cap off a season that saw him make the Shanghai Masters round of 16, Hamburg semi-finals and Madrid quarter-finals.

World number 20 Ugo Humbert is also in form, having finished 2023 by winning his fourth ATP title in Met. Trouble is, the Frenchman has risen in the rankings before, then come off the boil soon after. Two years ago, Humbert was ranked 31 in the world, only to fall outside the world’s top 100 again.

With Humbert also suffering from food poisoning recently, there’s a question mark over his durability in the Australian heat. Combine this with Zhang’s form and Humbert’s past tendencies, and we say backing Zhang for the win is a no-brainer here.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Jordan Thompson

Melbourne Park, 18th January 2024, time TBC

Tsitsipas to win but both players to win a set @ 2.10 (Bet365)

Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Jordan Thompson in another exciting second round clash that will be sure to get a big court on Thursday night. We expect the Greek to get home in this one, but not without a battle.

Thompson will thrive in front of a rowdy Aussie crowd, as he did a fortnight ago when he defeated Nadal in Brisbane. With wins over Casper Ruud and Kei Nishikori at Grand Slams, plus an upset of Alexander Zverev last year, Thompson is no mug. The cheery on top is that the last time Tsitsipas and Thompson met (at Indian Wells in 2023), it was the Australian who came away victorious.

It’s no secret that Stefanos Tsitsipas has had a shaky 12 months. Outside of a title in Los Cabos and a run to the Australian Open final, the 25-year-old has had little to celebrate.

However, he is a two-time Grand Slam finalist, world number seven, and will have a strong Greek contingent supporting him in Melbourne. He should win against Thompson, but considering he dropped a set in round one to a lucky loser outside the world’s top 100, we expect it will happen again in round two against a stronger opponent.

Ons Jabeur vs Mirra Andreeva

Melbourne Park, 18th January 2024, time TBC

Jabeur to win @ 1.90 (Bet365)

International betting sites have odds for this clash dead even, but we say that’s a mistake. Ons Jabeur is a 29-year-old three-time Grand Slam finalist ranked number six in the world, while Mirra Andreeva is a 16-year-old playing her first Australian Open and has not beaten a current top 10 player.

Yes, Andreeva has had a brilliant debut on the WTA Tour for a player so young. Yes, Jabeur was shaky in the second half of 2023 at times. But no, we don’t see this match going any way other than a victory to Jabeur. The Tunisian is simply too professional to drop her guard in a match like this and is looking fresh after an extended off season. While Andreeva will likely provide valiant resistance, but back Jabeur to get home in this one.
