Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick 13/04/24

10 races make up a superb day of racing in prospect at Randwick, with plenty of big names in action.

The Australian Oaks is the stellar offering in race 6, with some of the brightest prospects around lining up to battle it out over 2400m. This Group 1 contest has a deep and rich history and with A$1 million in the prize pot, there is something to get on board with for all punters and Aussie bookmakers.

By the time race 6 swings around at Randwick, punters should have a fair idea of what is going on and this should be a very closely fought affair. The 10 horses in the field comprise some of the very best 3-year-olds around and this should be compelling viewing. 

Standing out alone at the top of the betting ring is Orchestral, the prolific Kiwi flyer that has really stepped things up a gear in 2024. James McDonald is on board once more, which is a real plus and Orchestral will take some stopping here at $1.60 with Playup. 

Orchestral’s great rival Zardozi stands up to the challenge once more here at Randwick, with a few question marks starting to circulate as to whether it can keep up with the pace. The pair put on a superb battle last time out and Zardozi and connections will be eager to get revenge, a perfectly plausible outcome at a healthy $4.40 with Bet365. 

Beyond these two prolific horses, there are plenty of other selections, who may indeed get lost in the natural circus that is created around Orchestral and Zardozi. Autumn Angel and Tutta La Vita are well used to winning races in esteemed company and both have more than strong outside shots here at $7.00 and $10.00 respectively with Punterspal.  

The Queen Elizabeth Stakes is the obvious headline act here at Randwick this weekend and it promises to be an absolute belter of a contest. There is a staggering A$5 million in the prize pool, making it one of the biggest races on the calendar for punters and from both old and new betting sites alike.

Winning a race of this magnitude sees a horse and its connections etched into Australian racing folklore and the interest in this one has hit an optimum level with many punters and Aussie bookmakers. 

Picking an obvious winner is not easy but Irish superstar Via Sistina has transitioned well to life in Australia and is consequently the one to beat in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes this year. Recent runs have been hugely impressive and whilst this is clearly a step up in class, Via Sistina is the horse to beat in the eyes of many here at $2.20 with Punterspal.  

It is a who’s who of Australian racing through the remainder of the card and Pride of Jenni is next in the betting, with the 2024 Caulfield Cup winner chasing another big triumph for the calendar year and few would bet against her at $4.00 with Playup. 

There are so many strong horses to pick from in the remainder of the field and both Cascadian and Mr Brightside will believe that they have the credentials to challenge all the way in this one and neither can be discarded at very healthy odds of $8.50 and $10.00 respectively here with Bet365. 

The penultimate race of the day at Randwick is the Queen of the Turf, a contest that has always produced some incredible winners over the years and with a stellar field assembled in 2024, it promises to be absolutely no different. 

Group 1 racing always invokes a sense of urgency amongst punters and there will be plenty of interest here amongst bookmakers too, with a healthy A$1 million in the prize pot.

Picking a winner in this one is no easy shout, with 16 top quality mares on the card, all of whom have at least an outside chance of crossing the line in first and picking up a famous Group 1 triumph. 

The one to beat in the eyes of many bookmakers and punters is Zougotcha, a horse that seemingly doesn’t know how to lose at the moment and who has pace to burn over this 1600m trip. This is a real test of her mettle, but Zougotcha is a classy act and is the justified favourite for this one at $3.60 with Bet365. 

They are lining up in behind to challenge Zougotcha and Atishu looks to be the pick of the bunch in that regard. The Kiwi flyer is an absolute rocket for Chris Waller, and it is a horse to keep an eye on in the betting ring at a very healthy $5.00 with Playup. 

Beyond those two, there are plenty more excellent horses, all of whom can make realistic claims here but Tropical Squall and Olentia are perhaps the best two prospects at a tempting $6.50 and $9.00 respectively with Punterspal.
