Collingwood take on Brisbane in the 2023 AFL Grand Final.

For the Collingwood Magpies, the 2024 AFL Final presents a huge opportunity to end their 13-year AFL drought.

News Insights

  • Collingwood have been the team to beat in the 2023 AFL season.
  • The Magpies finished top of the regular season AFL table.
  • Playoff wins over Melbourne and the GWS Giants have propelled them into their first AFL Final since 2018.
  • Brisbane Lions await in a blockbuster Grand Final on 30th September.

With 15 AFL titles in their rich history, the Collingwood Magpies have long been a side associated with success.

However, by their own high standards, Collingwood are enduring a drought of sorts in recent times – having not won an AFL Premiership since 2010.

Grand Final defeats in both 2011 and 2018 have haunted the Magpies but they have been the team to beat this season and they have been catching the eye with many AFL betting sites.

Top of the tree

Plenty of sides in AFL history will be all too quick to point out that finishing at the top of the regular season table carries no guarantee but Collingwood have been imperious this season.

Epitomised by their mid-season winning run where they overcame all in front of them, the Magpies have been the most consistent side in the AFL this season.

In a game with the grandeur of the AFL Grand Final, all of the biggest betting sites will be fully indulging in all of the potential markets but Collingwood have been too strong for most sides this season and have stepped up when it matters most.

Daicos in dreamland

Few players have enjoyed the impact on the 2023 AFL season that Nick Daicos has, and the young defender has been a mainstay in this Collingwood team.

Finishing 3rd in the Brownlow Medal count came as somewhat as a surprise this week, with Daicos expected by many to be clinching the crown but his focus will once again be on the Grand Final.

With a question mark over his participation in the game cleared too, following a reported tackle against the GWS Giants, the stage looks to be set for Daicos to inspire the Collingwood Magpies in this one.

Time to break the Brisbane jinx

For all the superlatives that have been rightfully levelled at Collingwood this season, there remains one team that has had the wood on them all campaign.

The Brisbane Lions are the only side to have done the double over Collingwood this season and they will fully fancy their chances in this one.

Such is the nature of the fascinating matchup between these sides, that most betting apps have no idea which way the 2023 AFL Grand Final will finish.

However, the Brisbane Lions certainly won’t be in awe of Collingwood in this one – despite the fact it is being held at the Magpies’ home of the MCG – and it should be an AFL Grand Final to remember
