AFL 2023 Round 24 – Betting tips & Predictions

AFL 2023 Round 24
AFL 2023 Round 24

Heading into the final weekend of the regular AFL season, it is the race to finish in the top 8 that is creating the most traction with old and new betting sites.

Currently, St Kilda, Sydney and the GWS Giants are in the playoff spots, but the Western Bulldogs and Essendon won’t have completely given up hope below them.

Elsewhere, North Melbourne and West Coast will be looking to avoid the ignominy of the wooden spoon.

Essendon vs Collingwood

Collingwood will be looking to finish the regular season as strongly as possible, as they take on old foes Essendon.

Finishing top of the league will provide plenty of succour for the Magpies, who are the favourites to prevail in the AFL playoffs with a myriad of AFL betting sites.

Hosts Essendon meanwhile need a miracle if they are to sneak into the top 8 but at this stage they will want to stay in control of their own destiny.

Anything other than a win puts them out of contention for the playoffs and they will want to register a home win and hope that results go their way.

Plenty of sides have put the gauntlet down to Collingwood in recent times and they should be ready for the test here.

Hoskin-Elliott.

Hawthorn vs Fremantle

Two sides well out of the playoff picture will be looking to retain some pride as Hawthorn take on Fremantle.

Both sides have never really shown the consistency needed to crack the top 8 and next season looks to be their priority now.

Hawthorn sit 16th, with just 7 wins throughout the 2023 AFL campaign and their performances have been very disappointing at times.

Fremantle meanwhile have a similar story to tell, sat in 14th place in the AFL table and they will be looking to put in a strong end of season showing here.

This is a tough one to call, with neither side likely to take it too seriously but Hawthorn could register an end of year home win.

North Melbourne vs Gold Coast

The end of the 2023 AFL season cannot come quick enough for North Melbourne, who are now the wooden spoon favourites with many small betting sites.

They take on a Gold Coast side that have just announced a big change to their coaching set up in 2024, with serial winner Damien Hardwick in to rally the troops.

Neither side has a huge amount to play for in this one and they could both proverbially be on the beach but perhaps Gold Coast should have a little bit more quality in key areas.

Brisbane vs St Kilda

St Kilda will be doing all they can to cling on to a playoff spot, as they travel to high flying Brisbane in the regular season finale.

Brisbane have created plenty of traction with the biggest and best AFL betting sites and their impressive win over Collingwood last weekend was an example of that.

St Kilda meanwhile have ebbed and flowed throughout the season but now find themselves in 6th place when it matters most, and they will be eager to get the job done.

There is more on the line for St Kilda, but Brisbane are a top side, capable of beating anybody.

Geelong vs Western Bulldogs

Western Bulldogs will be looking to bounce back from their painstaking defeat to the West Coast Eagles last time out, with their playoff status out of their hands as they travel to Geelong.

Hosts Geelong sit in 11th and are out of the picture in terms of a top 8 finish but they will want to finish the campaign as strongly as possible.

Western Bulldogs meanwhile looked well placed before their slipup last weekend and they will be desperate to bounce back here.

This should be a massive game and with the Western Bulldogs needing a win, they could end up getting it.

West Coast vs Adelaide

Having picked up a surprise win at Western Bulldogs last weekend, West Coast Eagles are now in the running to spring another shock with some AFL betting sites against Adelaide.

The Eagles showed real resolve to overcome the Bulldogs and climbed up to 17th in the table as a result, with just one game to play in the regular season.

Adelaide meanwhile have flattered to deceive this season and are languishing down in 13th as a result, with their playoff hopes shattered.

This should be a rather nondescript affair, with neither side too invested but Adelaide should have too much quality in key areas.

Port Adelaide vs Richmond

Sat comfortably inside the top 4, Port Adelaide will be looking to finish their campaign as strongly as possible, as they take on Richmond.

The Port Adelaide Suns have upset the odds and the naysayers to finish inside the top 4 and they should be full of confidence heading into the playoffs.

Richmond meanwhile have endured a topsy-turvy season and their priority is sure to be rebuilding ahead of 2024.

Plenty of points could be on the cards here, as Port Adelaide look to finish the season as strongly as possible ahead of the finals.

Sydney vs Melbourne

Following a strong finish to the regular season, Sydney will be doing all they can to cling on to a top 8 spot, as they take on Melbourne.

The Swans have come good at just the right time and they will be hoping they can break into the playoffs and giving it a right old go.

Melbourne meanwhile have been steadily in the mix for top 4 all season and with that now secured, they will want to put down a marker here ahead of the playoffs.

This is the toughest match to call in the round, with Sydney’s need for a win potentially being the difference between the two sides here.

Carlton vs GWS Giants

Two sides currently frequenting the top 8 spots conclude their regular seasons against each other as Carlton host the GWS Giants.

Carlton Blues have been on an incredible run of form over the past couple of months, enabling them to move to 5th in the AFL table and very much in the mix for a shot at finals glory.

The GWS Giants however have been steadily making their way up the table in recent times and now find themselves in 8th, with their final’s destiny in their own hands.

GWS Giants are a side with something to play for but Carlton should be ready to put on a show here.
