It has been a remarkable 12 months for Jamie Kah in the world of Australian racing and winning on board Cylinder, is yet another story for her and punters and online betting sites to tell.

A year on from her own injury scares, Kah produced a sublime ride on board Cylinder, to clinch another huge Group 1 title for Godolphin.

Jamie Kah is a jockey that has long captured the hearts and minds of both punters and Aussie bookmakers and her 2023 injury lay off was particularly brutal.

Having tentatively made her way back into action at the start of 2024, Kah needed a big win to get her back up and running again, with Cylinder coming up trumps for Kah and connections at Flemington.

In an emotionally charged race, Kah held her nerve, emulating the feat achieved by Dean Holland in 2023, in a ride that sparked wild scenes of celebration in Melbourne and beyond.

Kah the Queen

2023 was a year of huge anguish for Jamie Kah, who sat out large periods of the campaign through injury and concussion issues.

Her recovery has been slow and steady, with plenty of punters and online betting sites looking to remain eagle-eyed as to how her return to action would pan out.

For all the conjecture and emotion surrounding her performance on Saturday, Kah first and foremost reminded everybody of her riding potential, and she was simply imperious on-board Cylinder, in a pulsating Newmarket Handicap contest.

Doing it for Dean

The fragility of top-level racing has been obvious for Jamie Kah in relation to her injury issues, but it pales into insignificance when considering the plight of her colleague Dean Holland.

12 months ago, in the same race, the Newmarket Handicap, Kah was withdrawn at the 11th hour through injury, with Dean Holland stepping up, to win impressively on board in Secret.

Tragically, just one month later, Holland passed away after suffering a horrific fall and tributes have inevitably been pouring in for Holland, who leaves a lasting legacy behind.

Cylinder goes around again

The 2024 Newmarket Handicap was always going to be a special contest, with plenty of horses seemingly in contention from the off with all Australian horse racing betting apps

However, the Godolphin-trained Cylinder was a little overlooked by many in the betting ring, with the likes of Imperatriz much more fancied.

Cylinder proved its worth once again here at Flemington, with another Group 1 triumph and it could be another big season ahead for the Godolphin flyer.

Jamie Kah came up trumps once more at Flemington, coming home on board Cylinder in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap. A race that captured the imagination with both punters and online betting sites, Kah will be looking to kick on following a successful day in the sun at Flemington and have a big 2024.
