AFL 2024 Round 8

The 2024 AFL season has been all about Geelong so far, with the Cats sat pretty at the top of the tree, unbeaten from 7 games played. However, there is still plenty of footy to be played this season and this weekend presents another huge betting opportunity for punters with the biggest and best AFL betting sites

Adelaide vs Port Adelaide

There is absolutely no love lost in South Australia between Adelaide and Port Adelaide and when the two sides meet, there is plenty of bloodshed. This should be another superb installment of one of the best fixtures in the AFL and both sides will be bang up for the challenge from the outset. Calling a winner here is no easy task, with both sides being backed by plenty of punters and AFL betting sites but Port Adelaide have had the wood on the Crows for a while now and how they would love to maintain that in 2024.

Carlton vs Collingwood

Another absolute belter of a fixture is on the card here, as the Carlton Blues host the Collingwood Magpies at the MCG. Carlton found Geelong too hot to handle last weekend but have started the season very well and are being backed to challenge for the AFL title by plenty of punters and small betting sites. Collingwood are defending the AFL title meanwhile and they won’t want to see it leave without a fight. This should be a whopper, with no quarter given and perhaps the Carlton Blues will push over the line and get the win.

Sydney vs GWS Giants

A Sydney derby is the next humongous issue on the calendar, as the Swans meet the Giants in another eye-watering tie. Both sides have been motoring along nicely this season and they should be full of confidence ahead of this one. The Swans are in great nick, losing just once, a record the Giants can boast too, and this should be hotly contested from the outset at the SCG. Calling a winner here is tough but perhaps the Swans could just sneak over the line.

St Kilda vs North Melbourne

A classic Victorian rivalry reignites here, as St Kilda take on North Melbourne. The Saints will be the strong favourites here, given the huge struggles that North Melbourne have endured this season but as ever, anything can happen in the AFL. North Melbourne have lost their opening 7 games and are a team under the pump, but St Kilda haven’t been pulling up too many trees either. This, however, should be comfortable home win for St Kilda, who are a difficult side to predict in the eyes of many punters and AFL betting sites.

Melbourne vs Geelong

Staying at the top of the AFL table is the next big challenge for Geelong, and the Cats face old foes Melbourne next. For the hosts, this is a great chance to test themselves against one of the stronger sides in the AFL and they will want to build on some very good recent showings. However, Geelong do look to be the real deal this season and they will be up for laying down another significant marker in this one.

West Coast vs Essendon

The general picture at the West Coast Eagles is starting to improve and they look to have another winnable game here against Essendon in the eyes of many punters and AFL betting sites. Picking up the wooden spoon last season was a bump in the road for West Coast and they have been able to make some improvements in 2024 thus far. Meanwhile, Essendon picked up a great draw with Collingwood last time out and are an unknown quantity here but West Coast could just about outlast them.

Richmond vs Fremantle

The early season optimism looks to be on the wane for Fremantle and next up is a tricky looking trip to Richmond. With just 1 win from 7 games played this term, Richmond need some serious improvement, and they would love to see it come here against Fremantle. The Dockers meanwhile are on the slide themselves, having only won one of their last 4 games but a playoff spot is within reach this term. This should be a good one, with Fremantle perhaps having too much for Richmond.

Western Bulldogs vs Hawthorn

Two more sides in need of a win meet here, as the Western Bulldogs host Hawthorn. For the Bulldogs, tackling their consistency is their main aim this season, as they look to improve on their league standing of 11th. Meanwhile, Hawthorn are properly in the doldrums, with just one win on the card all season and they look to be in a proper wooden spoon battle. This should be one way traffic, with the Western Bulldogs ready to pick up an important win.

Brisbane vs Gold Coast

Another derby completes the line up in the AFL this week, as Brisbane welcome Gold Coast. It has been a tough start to 2024 for the Lions, who look short of confidence but they are sure to be bang up for this contest. Meanwhile, Gold Coast have won 4 of their 7 games played and should provide a stern test for Brisbane. That said, Brisbane need a win and with the Gabba backing them, they should get one.
