AFL 2024 Round 5

Narratives are unravelling at both ends of the 2024 AFL table with just 4 games played for most sides. Unbeaten teams and winless franchises are lined up in equal measure, as the cut and thrust of the season really starts to get underway.

Match day 5 promises plenty of drama once more, with huge games attracting plenty of traction from both punters and AFL betting sites alike.

Melbourne vs Brisbane

The Brisbane Lions have endured an awful start to the 2024 AFL season, and they will be desperate to pick up their second win of the campaign here against Melbourne. A task that is much easier said than done however, with Melbourne having won 4 of their opening 5 games and having moved into a position to challenge for championship glory in the eyes of many AFL betting sites

This should be a fantastic contest, between two sides that will firmly believe they can be in the hunt come the post season and it could be home advantage that tips this in the direction of Melbourne.

Western Bulldogs vs Essendon

Two sides with identical records with 4 games played meet here, as the Western Bulldogs take on Essendon. The Bulldogs have produced some excellent performances this term, without necessarily picking up the points they would have hoped for and they are firmly in top 8 contention this term with many punters and small betting sites. The same could be said about Essendon, who are a very physical side, but they can lack consistency in key areas. This is a very tight one to call but Western Bulldogs are a shrewd outfit, and they could pick up a home win in this one

GWS Giants vs St Kilda

It has been a dream start to the 2024 campaign for the GWS Giants and they will be hoping to kick on here against St Kilda. With the points rolling in for GWS, they are playing with complete confidence currently and they will have a real crack at St Kilda here. The Saints are a strong outfit in 2024 though and they won’t wilt at all in Sydney. That said, the GWS Giants do look to have the bit between their teeth currently and they could have too much in the tank for St Kilda here.

Carlton vs Adelaide

Two sides having very different starts to the season square off here. Carlton are pushing hard to finish as high up the league table and with 4 wins from their opening 4 games, they are being tipped to go deep this season with many AFL betting sites. Next up is an intriguing battle with the Adelaide Crows, a side that are much better than what they are showing currently and who have lost all of their opening 4 games. This will be Carlton’s to lose at home and they could pick up another impressive win.

Gold Coast vs Hawthorn

Hawthorn are still awaiting their first win of the 2024 AFL season and next up is a tricky-looking tie to the Gold Coast. For the hosts, building on their decent start to the season will be their ultimate objective, as they look to force their way into the playoff picture once again this season. Hawthorn’s problems have been well-documented, and they look to be a side very low on confidence. Consequently, Gold Coast are the firm favourites for this one and they should pick up an important home win.

Port Adelaide vs Fremantle

It is 6th against 7th in the AFL table here, as Port Adelaide take on Fremantle. Port have won 3 of their opening 4 games without pulling up any trees and they will want to keep delivering the results in the early part of the campaign. Fremantle had their bubble popped a little against Carlton last time out, but they remain a very dangerous side, who could very easily be in the hunt for a top 8 finish this season. Most AFL betting sites are logically backing Port Adelaide here but Fremantle are playing well, and they could be ready to cause an upset on their travels.

Geelong vs North Melbourne

The Geelong juggernaut will be looking to rumble on in pursuit of their 100% winning record, as they welcome North Melbourne. Geelong have been in superb form throughout 2024 and they will be feeling very confident that they can extend their winning run to start the season to 5. North Melbourne meanwhile are a side that have endured a tough time once again this season and a wooden spoon scrap looks to be on the cards. This will be one-way traffic here, with Geelong ready to pick up another important win.

West Coast vs Richmond

With just one win between them this season, the prospect of West Coast and Richmond doing battle looks to be a bit of a sorry story. West Coast sit bottom of the pack, having been thumped in all 4 of their games played this term and they know that they are in for a tough time here against Richmond. The visitors have been poor this season, with just 1 win from 5 played but they need some points here and this could be a bit of a catalyst for them this season.
