My Verdict

4.9
By:Matt Abrahams

PlayUp is one of the best Aussie bookies going around and has a massive range of features and products for punters to sink their teeth into.

If you’re a racing-focused punter, you’ll particularly love PlayUp for their racing form guide and competitive odds for favourites. If you’re a sports-focused punter, you’ll enjoy PlayUp because they have a massive range of markets available and live betting capabilities.

Personally, PlayUp is one of the bookies I tend to bet with the most. I find their promotions among some of the most valuable and they usually have some of the best odds going around. It is also very easy to use their platform, but their desktop and app. If you’re in the market for a new bookie, PlayUp should be a serious contender.

PlayUp Full Review

By:Matt Abrahams

PlayUp Australia has been around for a number of years and has shown plenty of improvement since launching around 2019. In this PlayUp review, I will be looking at their website and app to give you an idea of what their best features are.

Continue reading to learn all about this unique betting site for Aussie punters.

About PlayUp

This site simply has a wide range of betting options that Aussie punters should enjoy. It doesn’t matter if you like betting on sports or having a punt on a roughie at racetracks around Australia, this site has you sorted. With major sports like AFL, NRL, and NBA to niche markets and racing events, there's no shortage of choices. They cover everything comprehensively, making it easy for you to place bets on whatever you like.

The mobile app is excellent for betting on the go too. It mirrors all the features available on the desktop site. I find it user friendly, fast and reliable, making it super easy to place bets from anywhere. If you're using iOS or Android, the app provides a great betting experience with all the best features that you need.

The site offers a nice balance of deposit options on both the website and app too. So there are no problems with funding your account. You can use debit cards and various other options for deposits. Withdrawals are limited to bank transfers but that is fairly common.

When it comes to payouts, PlayUp withdrawal times really shine. I've had no issues with payout speed; they typically process withdrawals on the same day or the next business day. This quick turnaround ensures you get your winnings promptly.

Security is a top priority here. The site is fully licensed for betting in Australia, adhering to all regulatory requirements. They also offer responsible gambling options to help you stay in control. You can bet with confidence knowing that your personal and financial information is protected.

PlayUp App Australia

Customer support options are impressive. The PlayUp live chat feature is popular for its convenience. Additionally, the availability of a phone support option is a rare but welcome feature.

The overall betting experience is highly positive, in my view. The site offers a range of promotions to keep your betting experience going, from bonus bets to special offers on major events. The live chat support is responsive and helpful, ensuring you get assistance whenever you need it. The odds are competitive, and the site even features daily fantasy sports, adding another layer of excitement.

Truly one of the best sites for betting in Australia, in my honest opinion.

PlayUp Review Pros & Cons + Verdict

In this part of the PlayUp review, I’ll be looking at what this site does well and what improvements I think they can make. It’s an honest opinion and should give you some insight into what it’s like betting with them.

PlayUp Strengths

  • Live Betting Odds - One of the unique parts about this site is they do offer live betting odds. Usually, Aussie sites don’t have this as it’s more popular with the International agencies like Bet365. So it’s great to see. Now, you can take advantage of live odds that you can’t get before the event starts.
  • Promotions for Sports & Racing - They have a lot of promos going on for sports and racing. So you’ll be able to potentially earn more money in the long run if you follow these bonuses.
  • Payout Speed - I love the payout speed at this site, it’s truly speedy. Most times you’ll get access to your funds on the same day so there’s no waiting around at this betting site.

PlayUp Weaknesses

  • No Live Streaming - At this stage, it’s not possible to watch live streaming via their website or app. But in saying that, not every site can offer this feature.
  • Glitchy App - With the merge between PlayUp and Draftstars, the app can suffer a bit since it’s supporting 2 sites. Such as constant log outs. But it doesn't happen all the time, just occasionally.

PlayUp Verdict

Overall, I think this site is one of the more unique ones going around in the Australian betting industry. There are simply a ton of betting options whether you’re into racing, sports or daily fantasy, the options are truly endless. I struggled to find many negatives about them. Of course, live streaming is a bummer and the app is occasionally glitchy. But really, these shouldn’t stop you from having fun. I would highly recommend betting with them.

PlayUp Features

Let’s continue this PlayUp review with a look at some of the features available. I’ll speak more about a couple of the best features available, but here’s an idea of the range of features available at PlayUp:

  • Apple Pay
  • Live Betting Odds
  • Live Chat
  • Mobile App
  • PayID for Deposits & Withdrawals
  • Player Props
  • Promotions
  • Racing Form Guide
  • Same Game Multi
  • Same Race Multi
  • Secure Payment Methods
  • Speedmaps

Live Betting Odds

One thing that won’t always be found at Aussie betting sites is live betting odds but PlayUp has you covered. They have live betting odds available for a lot of different sports both in Australia and internationally, such as the NBA.

The range of live betting markets is also quite impressive, so you’ve still got a lot to choose from if you want to place a live bet. I’ll talk more about live betting and odds in further detail later in this bookie review.

Same Game Multi

With the same game multi feature, you can bundle up a bunch of bets from the same game into one mega bet. So you can bet on the game-winner, total points scored and even how well a specific player performs, all in one shot.

If all your picks hit the mark, you could be looking at some sweet payouts! I particularly love a same game multi because of the better odds involved, so I only have to stake a small amount and I can be in for a significant payday.

Same Race Multi

Just like the same game multi, but for horse races! You can mix and match bets on different outcomes within a single race, making it super convenient. At PlayUp, you can create a same race multi that includes up to four runners.

The options are almost endless. For example, you could create your multi that includes three legs and the legs are three different horses that you think will end up running in the top four. That is just one of many different ways you can put together your same race multi.

Racing Form Guide

The form guide for horse racing is extensive and they even offer horse racing tips! You can look into each runner’s speed map as well as key stats. The key stats include career, distance, track, jockey/ tracker combination and more.

This information can be critical, especially for those who are looking to place a last-minute bet and just want an overview. On each racing event page, you can also view the fluctuations, so you can see if a runner is shortening or drifting.

PlayUp Racing Offering

Racing is much-loved in Australia so it’s important that betting sites cater to racing punters. In my experience with PlayUp, they’re a great option if you love a punt.

Firstly, they cover all races in Australia, doesn’t matter if it’s metro or country, you’ll find it here. Also, International races are available every day and this covers South Africa, Japan, France, UK and more. You can easily filter the races by region, day or runner category too.

I find their racing layout to be visually pleasing as I can easily see what’s going on. For example, a market will turn red if it’s about to jump in the next few minutes. Or I can see if a race has already run and the results are right there on the page. So it seems like they’ve really taken their time to get it right.

When you click on a single race, it’s also nicely designed. I can sort runners by price and switch between tote or fixed prices. There are also tips available and I can view speedmaps. I can also view a form guide per runner and this will show career stats along with the most recent starts. So that will help you out.

Along with top odds for roughies and ongoing promos, I don’t think you’ll get bored with the racing betting options that this site has to offer.

market-variety

PlayUp Sports Offering

PlayUp has come to the party when you’re looking at sports betting too. They have a massive range of sports betting markets and features, so let’s get into it.

Firstly, you can easily find a sports betting market on the website with the “Quick Links” menu on the left hand side. This will show featured sports, such as the NBA during the Finals or the Cricket T20 World Cup.

Looking at AFL in particular, they have over 150 markets per game during the season and finals. They have all the basics covered like head to head and line. But there are also heaps of advanced markets such as AFL Fantasy and player props. Along with same game multi and promos, betting on the AFL at this site is a fun experience and makes it a top choice in terms of Victorian betting sites.

NRL betting sites is something that needs to be considered in an Aussie betting review too. As a sponsor of the Wests Tigers in the NRL, PlayUp Australia is a big supporter of the competition. You can even get special promos for the Tigers, if you want. But also, there’s plenty of betting markets for every game of the NRL season, whether it’s finals or Round 1.

One of the unique parts about their same game multi is the “Fast SGM”. This allows you to filter bets by dollar value such as Under $5 or between $10-$20. So if you don’t wanna sit there and think about what to bet on, this can be really handy.

A thing that would be good to see for sports is more tips or quick insights, like they do for racing events. For example, having NBA tips, EPL tips, AFL tips, NRL tips and more could be really helpful for those sports punters out there.

PlayUp Odds

The odds play a pretty important role in ensuring you get the best value possible for your bet. I usually find that new betting sites fall down in this area, but as PlayUp is more established, this isn’t an issue for them. It’s all fluid though, so while for some markets PlayUp may offer better odds, there might be others where they don’t

Let’s have a quick look at how the odds stack up. In my comparisons with other sites, PlayUp can definitely offer better odds, mainly for favourites in racing. Such as the JJ Atkins, PlayUp offered $1.75 odds while Sportsbet had $1.70 odds. It might not look like much of a difference but if you keep getting better odds over the years, it’s going to add up.

For sports, it’s a bit different as favourites are usually on par with other sites. Instead, they can be a good option for backing underdogs. For example, in the NRL season, they had the Melbourne Storm to win at $2.10 and Ladbrokes only offered $1.90. So overall, PlayUp can give you better odds, it just depends on what you’re betting on.

If you have the time, I do recommend comparing the odds with several bookies so you can find the best price. For those who are time poor and prefer to stick with one bookie, I would say PlayUp is a solid option and over the long-term, you are likely going to see more bang for your buck here then compared to other bookies in the market.

PlayUp Australia Markets & Bet Types

Another important aspect to consider when choosing a new bookie is the markets available. The more markets, the better as it gives punters more betting options. I’m pleased to say that PlayUp has an impressive range of markets across both racing and sports.

While they might not always have as many markets as some of the bigger international betting sites, it is still a huge range. Unless you’re looking for something very specific, you should find what you’re looking for.

They offer all the racing markets that you know and love, including exotics for those who are looking for a bigger payday. You'll find markets for all three racing codes and PlayUp is quickly becoming one of the best greyhound betting sites for those who enjoy punting on the dogs.

In terms of sports, the range of markets is eye-watering. I would be surprised if you couldn’t find what you are looking for. Not only do they offer a large range of markets, but the range of sports and leagues within each sport is also impressive. For example, there are currently over 20 basketball competitions to choose from, way more than just the NBA, NBL and NCAA!

They even have markets on some of the more obscure sports, like esports for example. This is one of the areas I think they excel in and believe they are one of the top esports betting sites going around.

Wondering about what kind of PlayUp betting markets they have? Here’s a quick rundown.

  • First goal/try scorer - Bet on a player to score the first goal in AFL or the first try in the NRL. It's a fun way to kick off your betting action.
  • First half markets - You can bet on first half markets like the line and total points, making the first half even more exciting.
  • Head-to-head - Think you know which team will come out on top? Place a head-to-head bet and see if you're right.
  • Line/Handicap/Spread - Whether it’s the line, handicap, or spread, these bets are available for a wide range of sports, adding more layers to your betting strategy.
  • Player props - Get into player props, where you can bet on a variety of stat categories that a player needs to hit during the game.
  • Over/under total markets - Bet on the total points scored in a single game, across any sport. Will it be a high-scoring affair or a tight defensive battle?
  • Same game multi - Build massive multis for single games in the AFL, NRL, NBA, NFL, BBL and more. Combine different bets for bigger potential payouts.
  • Racing exotics - Love the races? Try your luck with trifecta, quinella, exacta, or first four bets for more thrilling racing action.
  • Win/place racing markets - Every race meeting offers win/place fixed and tote odds, giving you plenty of options to back your favourite horses.

live-streaming

PlayUp Live Betting

I am pleased to report that live betting is available at PlayUp. If you’re looking to place a live bet, it is super easy. You’ll notice the “Live Betting” tab near the top of the page, simply click on that and you’ll find all the live events you can place your bets on.

PlayUp Bookie Comparison - Live Betting

As always, you are required to phone the dedicated customer support team to place your bet. When clicking on the market you want, a pop up will be displayed, making it easier to call and place you bet. As you probably already know, timing is everything when it comes to live betting!

On the “Live Betting” hub page, you can see all the head-to-head odds of the live events, as well as the current score. If you want more than the head-to-head, you’ll notice in the top right-hand side of each event the number of available markets.

For example, for the NBA, I would consider PlayUp one of the best NBA betting sites going around and the live betting options are available for markets like:

  • Half
  • Margin
  • Double
  • Handicap
  • Total
  • And more!

Having live betting available is a massive tick and the way PlayUp has designed the page ensures the process is as seamless as possible, ensuring you get your live bets sorted quickly. With live betting available for the AFL and tennis, I would also consider them one of the best AFL betting sites and tennis betting sites.

betting-apps

PlayUp App

Talking about online betting apps is a consideration when it comes to online reviews as well. So let’s see what this bookie is offering.

I’ve been using the PlayUp app for a few years and it’s changed a lot over the time, especially when they linked Draftstars. Basically, the app is a streamlined version of the desktop website. You can perform all the same actions as the website all in your pocket.

The PlayUp app can be easily downloaded onto popular mobile phones such as the latest iPhone, Google Pixel, Samsung and more. On Apple, the app is regularly updated with new features almost every month, so that’s a great sign. Some apps don’t get many updates and can feel stale, but not at this site.

They’ve also improved the form guide so you can easily drill down into each run or view speed maps on your mobile device. The race finder also makes it easy to find upcoming races to punt on. Along with same race multi, betting on the races or sports with this app is a fun experience.

bonuses

PlayUp Promotions

Betting sites with bonuses are another important thing to talk about if you’re looking for a new site. Since betting seems boring without them, I always like a site that goes the extra mile with epic PlayUp promotions.

At PlayUp Australia, promotions are one of their best features, in my opinion. Every week of the year, you’ll find some awesome promos for both racing and sports. Bonuses can really help you stretch your dollar further and are quite suitable for those interested in arbitrage betting.

During the winter footy season, you’ll have access to promos for the AFL and NRL season. Since they’re sponsoring the West Tigers, there are even specific Wests specialty markets. You can even get better odds for the Euro’s such as France, Germany, Portugal, Spain or Italy to win the Cup. Those are just some examples of what you get access to during the busy sporting calendar.

While for racing, owners get a bonus if their runner wins a race, so that’s always nice. It’s available for both thoroughbreds and greyhounds. Meanwhile, you can also get hot bets for runners at Group 1 racing, such as the Melbourne Cup. So I would highly recommend them as one of the top horse racing betting sites out there.

payment-methods

PlayUp Payment Methods

Putting money into your betting account or accessing your hard-earned winnings is an important part of the process. So if you’re wondering about how it works at PlayUp in Australia, here’s my experience.

When making a deposit, there are a lot of options at this site which is great to see. On the desktop website, you can use a debit card, cash in-store, PayID, BPAY or EFT. My favourite option is always sticking with a debit card since it’s arguably the fastest way to put money into my account. But in saying that, all the other options are fine to use as well.

On the PlayUp app, you can also choose to deposit with Apple Pay and Google Pay as long as your device supports it. Generally, only iPhone supports Apple Pay and Google Pay is for Android phones.

It’s not one of the many PayPal betting sites in Australia but I’m sure they’ll add it to the options soon and they are one of the BPAY betting sites going around, so that opens up another option.

When it comes to withdrawing, in my experience, getting a withdrawal from them is a speedy process, arguably among some of the fastest withdrawal betting sites that I’ve seen. I’ve withdrawn a significant amount and received the funds on the same day. Of course, it will depend on when you requested the transfer and which bank you’re using. So just keep that in mind.

customer-support

PlayUp Customer Support

If you get stuck at any time in the betting process, it’s great to have a customer support team behind the scenes that can help you out. That’s the point of this section, I will give you an overview of what the support is like.

Firstly, there is a live chat feature and this is likely going to be your best bet for support. The team is widely available during the day and in my experience, they do their best to help in any situation.

Also, there’s a phone number for support, which has actually become rare in Australia. Most sites are leaning towards the live chat service. So if you like old-fashioned service, PlayUp Australia has you sorted.

Meanwhile, you can email the support team and they’re usually quick to respond with an answer. It won’t take days like other sites as they do a good job of getting back to their customers.

Overall, I think PlayUp has really focused on its customer support service as it’s arguably one of the best in Australia.

If you have questions, you've come to the right place because I have answers. I've gone through and found some of the most commonly asked questions about PlayUp and have answered them here:
