2023/24 NBA Championship Betting Preview

The start of any season brings about a real sense of optimism and once again in the NBA, there is a whole host of sides looking to claim Championship glory this season.

Defending champions Denver Nuggets broke one of the longest running ducks in NBA history to lift their maiden NBA title in 2023, making them the team to knock off their pedestal in 2024.

Elsewhere, the usual host of big name sides from both the Eastern and Western Conferences will be lining up to challenge for the NBA Championship title and it promises to be another epic tussle for supremacy.

Championship Favorites

The battle for the 2023/24 NBA Championship title promises to be a memorable one, with so many high-quality sides in contention.

Here at MyBettingAustralia, we have narrowed the front runners down to the top 4 sides who are favourites to go all the way and lift the famous trophy.

NBA Brooklyn Nets

Boston Celtics

Despite not having won the NBA Championship title for 15 years, the Boston Celtics remain one of the premiere sides in the competition.

Plenty of near misses in recent season have broken the hearts of many Celtics fans but they remain the hot favourites for glory in 2024 with all of the most reputable NBA betting sites

What brings them here?

Frustratingly for all associated with the Celtics, winning regular season games has been the limit of their successes, with last season’s Conference Final defeat to the Miami Heat a particular tough one to take.

However, the Celtics look ready to go again this season and have started the 2023/24 campaign with the bit between their teeth.

What could hold them off?

Themselves. Put simply, the Boston Celtics have long been one of the best squads across the NBA and they have been amongst the favourites for the Championship with various betting apps for many a season.

Showing the mental resilience to get over the line and win the NBA Championship would be a serious mark in the sand for the Boston Celtics.

Injury Report

Currently, the Boston Celtics don’t have too many injury problems to tackle either, with Centre Neemias Queta the only man on the sidelines.

NBA Brooklyn Nets

Denver Nuggets

Getting the monkey off the back and winning the NBA Championship title has looked to be liberating for the Denver Nuggets, who are a side brimming with confidence under Michael Malone.

The Nuggets ended their 56-year wait for the NBA title in 2023 and they are looking like the team to beat once more this season.

What brings them here?

2023 as a calendar year has been all about the Denver Nuggets and they will be eager to see that continue into 2024.

Winning the NBA Championship title made plenty of domestic and international betting sites to stand up and take note and with a nucleus of the same squad, they will fancy their chances again this year.

What could hold them off?

Winning an NBA Championship title inevitably put a target on a team’s back and this season, the Denver Nuggets are the Bonafede team to beat. Pressure looks unlikely to get to Michael Malone’s men, but it is unchartered territory for them. In addition, any sort of injury lay-off for the talismanic Nikola Jovic would also be catastrophic for the Nuggets.

Injury Report

A couple of players find themselves in the physio room currently, with Jamal Murray and Vlatko Cancar both facing sustained periods out of the side.

NBA Brooklyn Nets

Milwaukee Bucks

Next up in the running is the Milwaukee Bucks, one of the most dangerous sides in the NBA on their day. The Bucks last won the title in 2021 and they look to be getting their house in order for a serious title assault this season too, leaving punters asking whether they can win their 3rd NBA Championship title in 2024?

What brings them here?

No side has been able to live with the Milwaukee Bucks in the central division in recent seasons, with the Bucks having triumphed in their region for each of the last 5 years.

They look well placed to challenge again this term and with Giannis Antetokounmpo primed and ready to fire, they do look to have no limit to their potential this term.

What could hold them off?

Form. It has been an inauspicious start to the season for the Milwaukee Bucks, who have come unstuck against a variety of different sides this season and they know they will need to find some consistency soon.

It is of course very early days within the campaign however and the Milwaukee Bucks will be looking to justify their early season favourtism with plenty of the biggest NBA betting sites

Injury Report

Chris Livingston looks to be out for a couple of weeks for the Bucks, whilst for Jae Crowder the diagnosis is worse, with a two-month recovery time proposed.

NBA Brooklyn Nets

Phoenix Suns

When it comes to NBA ducks, no side can compete with the Phoenix Suns, with no NBA Championship recorded in their 56-year franchise history – something they will be desperate to change this season.

The Suns have been making excellent progress in recent seasons and are being tipped with many NBA betting sites to enjoy another good season in 2023/24.

What brings them here?

Having gone a decade without reaching the playoffs prior to 2021, the Phoenix Suns started something of a revolution ever since.

Key men such as Bradley Beal and Kevin Durant know what it takes to the distance in the NBA and their presence within this exciting team could prove to be telling this season.

What could hold them off?

History. No Phoenix Suns side has been able to get over the line before, so naysayers will say, why should they do it now? There is no doubt that the Phoenix Suns are a franchise packed with potential but until they win the NBA Championship title, many will believe that they simply cannot do it.

Injury Report

Key man Devin Booker looks to be on his way back from injury for the Suns, whilst Damion Lee remains a longer-term injury layoff.

NBA Championship – Teams to watch out for

Going all the way and winning the NBA title is some achievement and there are plenty of sides that will be looking to force their way into contention as the 2023/24 season pans out.

NBA Brooklyn Nets

Golden State Warriors

Calling the Golden State Warriors an outside shot when it comes to winning the NBA title seems a little farfetched, as they remain one of the biggest franchises in the competition currently.

The 7-time NBA Championship winners last triumphed in 2022 and Steve Kerr will be looking to get his side ticking again this term.

What brings them here?

Winning 4 of the last 9 NBA Championship titles is testament to the consistency of performance that the Golden State Warriors have been producing over the last decade and that’s what puts them into serious contention this year.

The Warriors still have the nucleus of a strong squad and if Steph Curry gets going, they will be very tough to stop.

What could hold them off?

Loss of form. Four consecutive losses have left the Golden State Warriors very much in mid-table contention in the Western Conference and they will need to address that quickly if they are to propel up towards the top of the division.

Injury Report

Whilst there are a few question marks surrounding Steph Curry and his fitness, there are no official injuries for the Golden State Warriors to deal with currently.

NBA Brooklyn Nets

Philadelphia 76ers

There is always the possibility that one team can emerge from nowhere and challenge in any given season and it would seem that bill is being fit by the Philadelphia 76ers.

Having not won the NBA Championship for 30 years, they weren’t initially seen as viable options to go all the way this season, but they have started this year impressively.

What brings them here?

The triumphant return to form of Joel Emblid has played a huge part in the superb start to the season the Philadelphia 76ers have enjoyed and his team mates seem to be fully on board the bandwagon. Sitting pretty at the top of the Eastern Conference, 76ers fans are starting to believe they could go all the way.

What could hold them off?

A reality check. Whilst they have the momentum, the Philadelphia 76ers are an unproven side at this level, hence the reluctance of many NBA betting sites to back them to vociferously for NBA Championship glory this year.

Injury Report

The unfortunate Kelly Oubre Jr is set for a spell on the sidelines following a car crash but the 76ers have no other injury concerns.

NBA Brooklyn Nets

Los Angeles Lakers

Few names are as synonymous with NBA success as the Los Angeles Lakers and they will be looking to pick up their 18th NBA Championship title this season.

They last won the NBA Championship back in 2020 and with a couple of subsequently underwhelming seasons to boot, they will want to respond in style this season.

What brings them here?

Very few sporting franchises enjoy the reputation of the LA Lakers, and they remain one of the biggest draws in the NBA. LeBron James is often the catalyst for the Lakers, who are capable of beating anyone on their day and they will want to start proving their consistency this season.

What could hold them off?

Mistakes. The stakes are higher at the LA Lakers than they are at many other teams and there is simply no margin for error. Getting on a winning streak will be their ultimate aim, otherwise they could leave themselves with too much to do.

Injury Report

Gabe Vincent and Jarred Vanderbilt are long-term absentees for the Lakers, whilst Jalen Hood-Schifino will be returning to action very soon.

NBA Brooklyn Nets

Dallas Mavericks

Another side that will be looking to spoil the party come NBA Championship season is the Dallas Mavericks, an outfit that continue to catch the eye in the Western Conference.

With Luka Doncic in their ranks, they will believe anything is possible, as they chase their 2nd NBA Championship crown.

What brings them here?

It has been an excellent start to the season for the Dallas Mavericks, who find themselves very much in the mix in the Western Conference, winning 8 of their opening 11 games. Luka Doncic looks to be fit and firing and with his team supporting him, they look to be a very dangerous side this season.

What could hold them off?

Consistency. There is no hiding the fact that the Dallas Mavericks would seriously struggle without Luka Doncic in their ranks, which in-turn can impact consistency within the franchise. Keeping the Slovene fit and picking up points along the way will be their ultimate objective.

Injury Report

Only Maxi Kleber has any injury concerns currently, with the Mavs hopeful he will be returning to action before the end of November.

NBA Championship Winner – Top Pick Boston Celtics

Whilst there is of course plenty of basketball to be played between now and the end of the 2023/24 NBA season, the Boston Celtics remain the team to beat this term.

Having won 8 of their opening 10 games, the Celtics are ticking along nicely, gathering momentum along the way and they have a couple of serious carrots in relation to their NBA Championship aspirations this term.

Both they and the LA Lakers are sat on 17 NBA Championships each, something the Celtics will want to put right. In addition, having not won the NBA Championship since 2008, there will be extra motivation within the camp at TD Garden to put that right this season.
