Can Jamie Kah get off to a winning start with Jimmysstar?

Jamie Kah has been handed the big ride of Jimmysstar in the Group 3 Shaftsbury Avenue Handicap at Flemington

News Insights

  • Jimmysstar is one of the hottest prospects in Australian racing.
  • A poor run under Craig Williams last time out led to connections to look for a new jockey.
  • Jamie Kah has been handed the reins for the next Flemington outing.
  • Kah is on the comeback trail, following 5 months out in 2023 through injury.

Plenty of different horses have captured the imagination of punters and online betting sites in 2024, with arguably no horse piquing interest more than Jimmysstar.

The Ciaron Maher trained 4-year old has pace to burn and is now running in the safe hands of Jamie Kah, following a couple of quiet recent showings.

Understanding the relationship between a horse and a jockey is often one of the biggest things that punters and Aussie bookmakers are looking for, when seeking the marginal gains that can win them a race.

Jimmysstar has enjoyed a very bright start to his career, but a couple of mysterious performances have been attributed to the jockey, rather than the horse himself.

Ciaron Maher has sought change, following a second place at Flemington in February, with Craig Williams being relived of his duties with Jimmysstar and Jamie Kah being handed the potentially golden ticket.

Jimmy is a star

With a 100% winning record prior to that second-place finish at Flemington, Jimmysstar has long been a horse to look out for with many punters and online betting sites

That loss, however, has done nothing to hamper his stock and he remains a horse that always delivers when it matters, and big names have been lining up to get on board.

The whole world will be watching at Flemington, to see if Jimmysstar can get back on track and betting against a horse of this calibre never seems too wise.

Wobbly Williams

For all of the talk surrounding the relative ‘failure’ by Jimmysstar last time out, trainer Ciaron Maher was quick to point the figure at jockey Craig Williams.

The experienced campaigner asked Jimmysstar to front run, something previously unseen from him and it didn’t go to plan.

Irish horse Makram came out on top on that occasion, sneaking home by a length, prompting Maher to ring the changes in the camp.

Kah back in the big time

Jamie Kah has long been one of the most prolific jockeys on the Australian racing circuit and she always a jockey to look out for with all Australian racing betting apps

Her horror fall in 2023 saw her off the track for almost 6 months and she has been slowly increasing her workload, as she looks to get back to full fitness.

Bagging the seat on board Jimmysstar will feel like a real coup for both Kah and trainer Ciaron Maher and it could turn out to be a masterstroke of a partnership.

Jimmysstar remains one of the most impressive horses in the country with punters and online betting sites. A slow run at Flemington last time out has raised a few questions but with Jamie Kah now on board, it could be the start of something special for Jimmysstar.
