GET ON - #3 Detroit City

My confidence is high in this selection as the standout Saturday bet, here is why. Detroit City raced recently, placing 2nd in a 1600m event at Sandown-Hillside. Jockey Ben Melham guided the runner, carrying 58kg. Started at $12.00 odds. The draw might not be ideal, but it all depends on how the race unfolds. On Saturday, Luke Cartwright will get to ride this one. A strong run between these two will be key. Trained under the expert eye of Dominic Sutton, expect nothing less than top performance from Detroit City. Decent record when racing over this distance so I don't mind its chances. Has tasted success on this Flemington track but needs to find more. Struggles to put together back-to-back wins in these conditions, but could find form. Worth a bet at odds, don’t overlook it.

THREAT - #7 Taken

Taken could be overlooked by some, so that offers strong value for Saturday’s races. Taken has consistently finished in the placings over the past three races. Last time out, Taken competed over 1600m, placing 1st at Sandown-Hillside. Jumped from barrier 11, carried 53kg, and starting price of $4.20 odds. Likely to settle back from this draw and run home strongly. Expect Beau Mertens to be in control this Saturday. Their experience and race craft make them a strong contender for the win. Taken has been under the wing of Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr). This trip of 1600m suits perfectly, proven performer time and time again. The wetter, the better - this horse excels when the track has give in it. Could be a real value play, don’t dismiss it.

ROUGHIE - #5 King Of Enterprise

King Of Enterprise is usually an unpredictable runner that can spring a surprise result. He ran outside the top four last time but wasn’t disgraced in the effort. King Of Enterprise raced at Sandown-Hillside last start, covering 1600m and finishing 8th. Carried 57kg with John Allen aboard. Track was soft. Has performed respectably on soft tracks before, and another good run wouldn’t shock. Outside barriers can sometimes provide a smoother run than being stuck inside. Daniel Moor has the skills and race intelligence to make a big impact on Saturday. Looking forward to their performance. This runner comes from the T Busuttin & N Young Stable. Unproven at this distance (1600m) but could surprise with the right run. Despite no wins yet at Flemington, King Of Enterprise has had some solid performances here.

GET ON - #13 Liberami

I believe that Liberami will get strong support and will be my prime Saturday bet of the day. Liberami has been a consistent performer, placing in three consecutive races without fail. Liberami stepped out at Flemington on 17/05/2025, finishing 1st over 1800m. Raced on a heavy surface, carrying 54kg under Jye McNeil. May have to work early to find a good position from this gate. Has been trained by R D Griffiths and comes off some trial runs. Track stats: 2-0-0, with a win rate of 66.7% and place rate of 66.7%. Every so often, it gets the job done - could Saturday be one of those days? I like the way it’s been going lately.

THREAT - #12 Euphoric

I believe that Euphoric represents great value in the betting markets and could surprise. A finish outside the top four last start, but there were positives to take away. Euphoric ran at Sandown-Hillside on 24/05/2025, finishing 5th in a 1600m event. Jockey Jordan Childs was aboard, carrying 58kg. Track was rated good. Has drawn a barrier that should help avoid early pressure. Jockey Zac Spain will ride this runner. This jockey is known for his ability to time the run perfectly. Euphoric is a product of G Eurell's exceptional training, and the results should speak for themselves. Still searching for a breakthrough at 2000m - this race might be perfect. This one’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.

ROUGHIE - #15 Ruakaka Raider

Ruakaka Raider is a roughie with the potential to surprise at big odds. Finished beyond the top four last start, but could be poised for a better effort. Ruakaka Raider competed at Sandown-Hillside over 1600m, finishing 8th. Jumped from barrier 10, carried 54kg, and was ridden by Jamie Melham. A tricky gate, but not a deal-breaker for a horse with this ability. Jockey Logan Bates gets the ride on Saturday. They're a talented jockey with a pretty good race sense. Ruakaka Raider presents from the prestigious Ms C Alderson Stable. No wins over this distance of 2000m, but this could be the day. It’s a real chance to grab some value.

GET ON - #7 Shockletz

Shockletz should be a standout selection for Saturday’s racing, here is why. Last start, Shockletz finished in the placings over 1600m at Sandown-Hillside on 24/05/2025. Carried 54kg under Harry Coffey, started at $10.00. Track rated soft. Not raced on soft track before, but should take to it without issue. A wide barrier often means more room to build momentum down the straight. This Saturday, Harry Coffey will be in the saddle and ready for a win. This race looks suitable for this tactical rider. Shockletz, under the guidance of Ciaron Maher, has shown great potential in recent workouts. The distance is a bit of a query as it hasn't won before over 2000m, but this could be the race. Track record isn’t inspiring, but anything can happen at Flemington on Saturday. Will be charging late if given the chance.

THREAT - #1 Stylish Secret

Stylish Secret presents excellent value for those looking beyond the favourites. Finished fourth in the previous race at Flemington, continuing to build momentum. Yet to race on soft, but its form suggests it could be competitive. A wide draw could work in his favour if the pace is strong early. Jake Noonan will guide Stylish Secret and given their record, they’ll give the horse every chance to shine. Trained by Mick Nolan. Hasn’t cracked this distance yet, but stranger things have happened. Go well again.

ROUGHIE - #3 Verona Rupes

Verona Rupes is not among the favourites but has the ability to cause an upset. Came in beyond the top four last start, but still showing signs of promise. A horse that pops up now and then - maybe Saturday? Last start performance, Verona Rupes came 5th over 1600m at Bendigo. Carried 61.5kg, guided by Will Gordon, and started at $4.00. Drawn ideally, which should allow this horse to find a comfortable position early in the race. Tom Prebble has the skills and race intelligence to make a big impact on Saturday. Looking forward to their performance. The attention to detail in Patrick Payne's training methods makes Verona Rupes a contender. Hasn’t won at Flemington yet, but might be ready to change that. Could be flying home late, keep an eye out.
