Race 1: Super Vobis Handicap

Getting things underway on the 10-card racecourse at The Valley is the Super Vobis Handicap. The 1000m dash is for 3-year-olds and above, with a rather hefty total prize fund of A$150,000 up for grabs for owners and connections.

Super Vobis Handicap

In a field full of lightly raced competitors, it is Lakota Fire that catches the eye and tops the early market betting. No horses in the race have competed more than 4 times but with one win and one place from two career outings, Lakota Fire looks to have pace to burn and is the favourite at $3.90 with Bet365.

Despite the obvious excitement surrounding Lakota Fire, there are plenty of decent horses in the mix in this one, with both Mansiere and Title Fighter making strong movements in the ante-post markets. Both horses won their last races and look well priced at $6.50 each with Playup.

Races of this nature often have an unknown quantity and Pivot City is very much the horse in that category. Running on debut here at The Valley, everything suggests it should go well and it could be one to keep an eye on at $5.50 with Punterspal.

Race 5: BM84 Handicap

Solid race cards continue to appear at The Valley, with race 5 hosting many of the most experienced horses on the Victorian circuit. A cool $130,000 makes up the prize pool, making it a race plenty of people will want to win and there are some renowned horses in the running for this one.

BM84 Handicap

On a card packed with experienced horses, it is the youthfulness of Recommendation who tops the early market betting. The 4-year-old has a fearsome reputation as one of the quickest speedsters around and it is much more lightly raced than its competitors here. Recommendation is the big favourite for the BM84 Handicap at $2.40 with Punterspal.

Ran over 1200m, this BM84 Handicap will be all about speed and Belle Et Riche is one of the best in the business. A horse that remarkably has never finished outside of the places in its 10 race career, backing it should always yield a return and it could be a serious contender at $6.50 with Playup.

Elsewhere, two horses that generally compete at a higher level are also in the field with both Maximillius ($5.50) and Shalaman ($8) two serious contender to push the favourites all the way in this one. (Above prices with Bet365).

Race 8: BM78 Handicap

Arguably the most open race of the day at The Valley gives punters plenty of options, with the BM78 Handicap in race 8. Ran over 2500m, it will be a real slog for all of the horses on the card and with some big names in the mix too, there will be plenty of jockeys and connections chasing the $130,000 prize pool.

BM78 Handicap

Kiwi horse Mathew has been in excellent nick of late and it looks to be ready for this test here at Moonee Valley. Winning last time out should give Mathew a good boost ahead of this one and it looks to be well placed shout at $5.00 with Bet365.

Following suit and also from New Zealand is Wuddzz, a horse that has finished in the top 3 in its last 4 outings – including finishing second over course and distance just a fortnight ago. Wuddzz is a serious contender in this one at $5.50 with Playup.

Such is the betting appeal of this race that there are plenty of horses that are carrying plenty of value yet have plenty of experience in the bank. Botany has banked over $120,000 in career prize money and it could be well placed to challenge at $6.00 with Punterspal.

Whilst The Cunning Fox at $15.00 and Bainbridge at $21.00 are two more serious contenders in this very open race, both with Bet365

Jockey Of The Day – Wiremu Pinn

Quantity potentially reigns over quality here for Wiremu Pinn, who saddled 9 out of the 10 races on the card at The Valley on Saturday.

Inundation looks to be the pick of his rides in Race 9 at $2.90 with Punterspal, whilst Hissy Fit is well fancied in Race 2 at $5.60 with Playup.
