Saturday Racing Tips - Caulfield 10/02/24

Group 1 racing is very much on the agenda at Caulfield, with 10 superb contests compiling a busy day of action on Saturday 10th February, giving plenty of opportunities to both punters and Aussie bookmakers.

The quality of the card at Caulfield on Saturday simply cannot be overstated and it seems that all punters and Aussie bookmakers are fully involved in what should be an epic day of racing. 

Race 4 pits some of the best 3-year-olds in the business against each other and with A$300,000 in the prize pot, there is plenty at stake here.

The inexperience of the field here will make this a fascinating contest, as some of the brightest prospects in Australian racing lineup to do battle. Caulfield is a perfect track to give them a stern test and the 1400m trip should make for compelling viewing. 

Topping the betting by some way is Southport Tycoon, a Ciaron Maher trained flyer that has seriously looked the part in all 5 career outings so far and is subsequently the stand out offering here with many punters and bookmakers. 

This will be a serious step up in quality but Southport Tycoon certainly has the raw materials to come on top here at $1.85 with Playup. 

One of the most exciting offerings on the whole card at Caulfield is in action next, with Kiwi flyer Carbonados seemingly ready to make a statement performance. Having struggled over 1200m at Caulfield just a fortnight ago, many have been quick to write off Carbonados, but it is a horse with plenty of potential for the prolific Hayes yard and it may benefit from sneaking under the radar a little here. In a highly competitive race, Carbonados looks to be in with a good shout at $5.00 with Bet365. 

There are plenty of other horses in the mix here, all who can make strong claims in this one and Zipaway and Hey Fat Cat look to be the pick of the bunch at $7.00 and $10.00 respectively with Punterspal.  

Big profile races continue to roll in at Caulfield on Saturday, with race 7 another fascinating contest, offering something for all levels of punter. 

Another A$300,000 is in the prize pool and the quality of the field is representative of such a handsome prize total. 

Contests for 2-year-olds are always fast and frenetic but with some of the brightest talents in Australian racing in action, this one will be closely monitored by both old and new betting sites.

The relative inexperience of the field and the fact that the race takes place over just 1100m will be a red flag of sorts for some punters and Aussie bookmakers, but the quality of the young field assembled here in Caulfield is incredible. 

Topping the betting is Bold Bastille, a horse that was hugely impressive in winning on debut at Moonee Valley at the back end of 2023 and this race looks to be the next natural step. 

A quicker turn of foot will be needed here but Bold Bastille looks to have all the credentials to get the job done here at $2.05 with Punterspal.  

In behind in a congested betting ring is Kuroyanagi, a comfortable winner at Gawler just three weeks ago and it does feel like the unknown quantity in this contest, with so little known about it. That of course is the beauty of backing 2-year-old horses and Kuroyanagi should be in the mix here at $8.00 with Playup. 

The most experienced horse in this contest is Hayasugi, who has also looked very strong in its three previous career showings and having won over 1000m at Caulfield just two weeks ago, it could be firmly in the mix here at $9.50 with Bet365. 

The Group 1 CF Orr Stakes is of course the headline offering from Caulfield on Saturday and the big names are lining up in pursuit of some Group 1 silverware. Etching their name into Group 1 racing history, as well as getting involved with the A$750,000 prize pot will be the key motivators here, in a superbly assembled field.

The aforementioned importance of a Group 1 contest will serve as extra motivation for all involved here and the CF Orr Stakes is one of the biggest races on the Australian racing calendar. 

Whilst there are some superb runners in the mix, it is the prolific Mr Brightside who tops the betting in this one. Having been one of the most impressive horses in Australia in 2023, Mr Brightside looks well placed to kick on in 2024. 

Having not been seen since being edged out on the line in the Cox Plate last year, Mr Brightside returns with the bit between his teeth and it will be very tough to beat in this one at $1.95 with Bet365. 

Following in the betting are some fantastic prospects, with Veight arguably the pick of the bunch, fresh off a good win at Moonee Valley just a fortnight ago. This is a step up in quality, but Veight is more than capable of mixing it with the big boys here at $6.50 with Playup. 

Without exaggeration, claims can be made for the remainder of the field but both Pride of Jenni and Pericles are well placed to challenge at decent prices of $7.00 and $8.00 respectively with Punterspal.
