EPL 2023/24 Matchweek 17

With European football off the schedule until the new year, it is now full steam ahead in the Premier League over the busy Christmas period.

Liverpool find themselves as the front runners, with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City firmly in the mix behind them. Meanwhile, the problems continue to for Manchester United and Chelsea, who need to find some inspiration from somewhere, whilst the likes of Sheffield United, Burnley and Luton Town remain engrossed in a survival battle.

Matchweek 17 Fixtures

Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham

City Ground, 16th December 2023 – 07.45

Friday Night Football promises to be a classic, as Nottingham Forest take on Tottenham, at what will be a raucous City Ground. Forest haven’t hit their straps this term but they remain dangerous at home and they are expected to stay up with many betting apps

Tottenham meanwhile won well against Newcastle last time out and do look to be finding form once more, following a tricky 3-game losing spell.

This will be a good one, with Spurs most likely to come out on top.

Vitality Stadium, 17th December 2023 – 03.00

A resurgent Bournemouth side take on Luton Town in a game that could have a big impact on the bottom of the Premier League table.

The Cherries are unbeaten in their last 4 games and come into this one fresh off a famous win at Manchester United.

Luton meanwhile have been defying pre-season predictions with many soccer betting sites but remain in the relegation mix currently.

Bournemouth are in good nick, and they should prevail at home in this one.

Chelsea vs Sheffield United

Stamford Bridge, 17th December 2023 – 03.00

Struggling Chelsea will be eager to force their way up the table, as they take on a Sheffield United side that are back under the stewardship of Chris Wilder.

It has been a rough spell for Chelsea, who have seriously dropped off the pace and with only 5 wins all season, they need to see things change quickly.

The Blades meanwhile now have Chris Wilder back in the hotseat and his impact was felt last week, with a 1-0 win over Brentford.

This should be one-way traffic for Chelsea in front of their home fans.

Etihad Stadium, 17th December 2023 – 03.00

City haven’t hit their straps as yet, but everybody knows they have the potential to come good at any stage.

Crystal Palace meanwhile are fighting to find form under Roy Hodgson but they know they have no pressure on them here.

City will be up for this and should have too much for Palace at home.

Newcastle United vs Fulham

St James’s Park, 17th December 2023 – 03.00

Following their Champions League disappointment in midweek, Newcastle United will be happy to make a return to Premier League action against Fulham.

Toon were thumped by Tottenham last time out and need to respond in the Premier League.

Fulham meanwhile picked up two excellent results last week, scoring 10 goals in the process and they will believe they can cause a few problems here.

This will be a good one, which Newcastle should just about prevail from.

Burnley vs Everton

Turf Moor 17th December 2023 – 05.30

Vincent Kompany’s Burnley will be looking to strike in the relegation battle, as they host Everton.

The Clarets are starting to tick a little bit this season but they have a long way to go if they are to secure their Premier League status.

Everton meanwhile are flying, having seen off Newcastle and Chelsea in the last week and a win here could be huge for their plans this term.

This will be a good one and it could well end up being a draw.

Arsenal vs Brighton

Emirates Stadium 18th December 2023 – 02.00

Following their loss at Aston Villa last time out, Arsenal will be looking to bounce back against Brighton.

The Gunners are firmly in the mix for the Premier League title this season and they are a force at home in particular.

Brighton meanwhile can’t seem to generate any consistency this term but remain a threat against anybody they play, with their constant goal threat.

This will be a good one, which Arsenal should win.

Brentford vs Aston Villa

Gtech Community Stadium 18th December 2023 – 02.00

High-flying Aston Villa travel to Brentford in what should be a tricky game for Unai Emery’s side.

Brentford have struggled this term for consistency, but they are a side that have plenty of fire power in key areas.

As mentioned, Aston Villa are sitting pretty in the top 4 of the Premier League and they will be starting to believe that they can challenge for honours this term.

This will be a very good game, with Aston Villa perhaps most likely to win this one.

West Ham United vs Wolves

London Olympic Stadium 18th December 2023 – 02.00

David Moyes’s West Ham are fighting in the Premier League, and they take on Wolves next, in a pivotal game for both sides.

The Hammers have progressed in Europe but are stalling in the league and need to find a win from somewhere.

Wolves meanwhile are still plugging away under Gary O’Neill and they will fancy causing West Ham a few problems here.

This should be a super game, between two exciting sides and a draw is potentially on the cards.

Liverpool vs Manchester United

Anfield 18th December 2023 – 04.30

The old foes go at it again, as Liverpool take on Manchester United, looking to preserve their lead at the top of the table.

Jurgen Klopp’s reds are building momentum once again this season and they look to be in hot pursuit of another Premier League title.

Manchester United meanwhile are in disarray, struggling on and off the pitch and this is potentially the worst assignment they face.

The atmosphere here will be electric and Liverpool should come out on top.
