Can Crystal Palace salvage their season?

News Insights

  • The 2023/24 EPL season has been a forgettable one for Crystal Palace.
  • Veteran manager Roy Hodgson looks set to leave the club.
  • Club legend Wilfried Zaha departed the Eagles at the start of the season.
  • Injuries to key men have stalled their progress and fan unrest has reached a new level.

Having spent much of the 2000’s and 2010’s as a proverbial yo-yo club between the Championship and the Premier League, Crystal Palace have changed the narrative in recent years.

The Eagles have become fixtures in the top-flight, with their counter attacking brand of football catching the eye with EPL soccer betting sites and punters alike.

However, a stagnant summer looks to have cost the Eagles, who are now fully engrossed in a relegation battle and facing a big decision to make over the managerial future of the club.

Hodgson health scare

Aged 76, Roy Hodgson was brought back to the club just over 12 months ago, to oversee a revival – following a relatively quiet run of results under Patrick Vieira.

The softly spoken legend of the game did the job, allowing his players to play with freedom and the Eagles finished well clear of the drop zone.

However, that optimism has waned quickly this season and calls for Hodgson’s head have been vociferous in recent months from Palace fans.

Coupled with the want for change at Selhurst Park, was the news this week that Hodgson was admitted to hospital following a fall – another hurdle for all at the club to overcome.

Replacement at the ready

Whilst the footballing world continues to wish Hodgson well, Palace need to keep trucking on, and change is in the offing in East London.

Former Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner is reported to have agreed to replace Hodgson and he knows the magnitude of the job in hand.

Can Crystal Palace stay up?

With Glasner ready to step into the breach, plenty of EPL betting sites are speculating as to whether he can navigate a route to safety for the Eagles.

Key man Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze remain injured for Palace and Glasner has no time to adjust to his new role in the Premier League.

That said, there is plenty of quality in the Palace squad and they have some experienced Premier League players.

It promises to be a fascinating end to the season and Crystal Palace are $5.00 to be relegated with TopSport
