Can Burnley mount an EPL survival bid?

News Insights

  • Burnley looked to be all-but relegated in the Premier League.
  • However, they have lost just 1 of their last 7 games.
  • The Clarets now sit 3 points off EPL safety.
  • Vincent Kompany’s men have 4 games to save their season.

Having blitzed their way through the Championship last season, many people expected Burnley to be best placed of the promoted sides to fend off relegation.

However, the Clarets have struggled for long periods of the season and are firmly in the mix to go down with just 4 games to play.

Recent results have been trending upwards though and Burnley are now in the hunt for EPL survival with many pundits and EPL betting sites, as they pursue a great escape.

Clarets on the charge

A home defeat to Bournemouth at the start of March seemed to spell the beginning of the end for Burnley.

Despite having most of the play, Burnley succumbed to the clinical nature of the Cherries, which summed up their season to that point.

However, in the subsequent 7 games, Burnley have lost just one – on the road at Everton and they have picked up points against the likes of Chelsea, Brighton and West Ham along the way.

In good Kompany

The impact of Vincent Kompany’s management style at Burnley is clear for all to see but the Belgian appeared to be overthinking things a little in the first part of the season.

However, in recent weeks, Kompany has been able to get more resolute performances out of his players, at both ends of the pitch.

Burnley have only failed to score in one of their last 7 games, conceding just 9 in that time and they look to be playing with more confidence at Premier League level.

Who could go down instead?

Burnley’s upturn in form has coincided with a downturn in form for Luton Town above them in the EPL table.

Many EPL pundits and betting sites tipped Luton to struggle this year and whilst the Hatters have been impressive, it seems as if their efforts could turn out to be in vein.

Sheffield United are all but gone below Burnley, leaving one spot available for the Clarets, with Everton and Nottingham Forest teetering nervously above the drop zone, Burnley will be desperate to catch them.
