Last weekend was a bit of a goal-fest in the Premier League, with no less than four teams netting at least three of them and two other games ending in two-all draws. Liverpool took another step towards their inevitable title with a 2-1 win over West Ham, while a couple of spots further down Newcastle and Manchester City secured important wins, and Aston Villa continued their push for an unlikely Champions League spot. The title might be all but secured, but there is still plenty on the line over the remaining few weeks of the season. Matchweek 33 kicks off with five games on Saturday night, Australia time, and you can check out our EPL tips and predictions for those and the rest of the games scheduled for this weekend below.

Brentford vs Brighton and Hove Albion
Brentford have had a tough few weeks from a fixturing perspective with games against Newcastle, Chelsea and Arsenal, but while they have not picked up a win in that time, they should be reasonably satisfied with draws in the latter two of those games. The outside chance they had at a top five spot is realistically gone, though they do have a decent shot at picking up a hard-earned win against an out-of-form opponent this weekend.
Brighton were right in the mix for a top five spot a few weeks ago, but they’ve had a bad last few weeks. It continued last weekend with a 2-2 draw against a Leicester City team that hadn’t scored for two months, which put them seven points in arrears of Manchester City in fifth. They badly need a win to give themselves any sort of a chance at a League spot, but based on their recent form it’s hard to see that happening. This one could easily end in a draw.

West Ham vs Southampton
West Ham put in a really competitive showing against Liverpool in an enthralling game last weekend, with an own goal helping them to tie things up at 1-1 in the 86th minute, only for Virgil van Dijk to put through a winner three minutes later. With Wolverhampton winning a fourth game in a row, that loss sent West Ham to 17th, but with 14 points separating them from Ipswich Town in 18th they are well and truly safe from relegation.
Not so for Southampton. Still locked firmly to the bottom of the table, they endured a 26th defeat for the season last weekend, going down 3-0 to Aston Villa in another meek defensive performance. West Ham is not exactly the most potent attack in the Premier League, but against Southampton they should be able to find the back of the net at least a couple of teams. Southampton could barely beat the local park XI at the minute, so a win for the home team seems like one of the more sure-fire EPL predictions of the weekend.

Everton vs Manchester City
This should be a really intriguing game. Everton’s much-improved second half of the season continued last weekend with a surprise 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest, a result which ended a frustrating run of draws which had seen them fail to pick up a win for six games in a row, but only lose one of those games – that loss being an admirable 1-0 defeat to Liverpool.
Manchester City, meanwhile, had absolutely no problems beating Crystal Palace, putting on an offensive masterclass en route to a dominant 5-2 win. With Chelsea drawing, that victory saw Manchester City slide up to fifth spot, but their position there is a precarious one. They are just one spot clear of both Chelsea and Aston Villa, but equally they are only one point behind Newcastle and two behind Nottingham Forest. This is a pivotal game for them, but Everton have been really competitive against virtually everyone for a couple of months now, and at home could be able to restrict their superior opposition to a draw at close to $4 odds with international betting sites like Bet365.

Crystal Palace vs Bournemouth
Crystal Palace have had a really solid last few weeks, but it all came crashing down against Manchester City last weekend. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead within 20 minutes, they fell in a heap of epic proportions, conceding a huge five goals over the remainder of the game to ultimately go down 5-2. Though they do not have much to play for over the remainder of the season, they will be eager to atone for that performance at home this weekend.
Bournemouth, in contrast, had endured a poor few weeks to likely end their hopes of making any international leagues next year, but a solid 1-0 win over Fulham kept their slim hopes alive. They are seven points back from Man City in 5th, so can ill-afford to slip up for the rest of the season, but despite what they showed last weekend Crystal Palace will be no easy beats. This one could go either way, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see these teams split the points at good odds with Australian betting sites.

Aston Villa vs Newcastle
This might be the game of the weekend. Aston Villa have catapulted into Champions League contention with a brilliant month, winning four from four to jump into 7th and in a tie with Chelsea for 6th. They suffered a heartbreaking aggregate loss to PSG in the Champions League quarterfinals during the week despite winning the game, but the 10-1 aggregate in their last four Premier League has been super impressive.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have continued on their merry way since winning the Carabou Cup, winning their last three games – and their last two in dominant fashion. Last weekend, they beat Manchester United 4-1 after knocking off Leicester City 3-0 the week prior, solidifying their spot inside the top four and moving them to within a point of Nottingham Forest. With plenty of teams breathing down their neck, however, Aston Villa included, they can ill afford to rest on their laurels. This should be a cracking game and one Aston Villa is capable of scoring at least a point in, but Newcastle are on fire at the moment and can keep their winning streak going, and end that of Villa.

Ipswich Town vs Arsenal
It has been a grim old season for Ipswich Town, but they have at least given their fans something to cheer about over the past couple of weeks. Following a rare win against Bournemouth earlier in April, they were solid against Chelsea last weekend, surprisingly managing to secure a 2-2 draw against a much better team than what they are. They will face a similar challenge this weekend.
Arsenal is six points clear in second place on the Premier League standings, though unfortunately they are too far back to challenge Liverpool, particularly following their last couple of games. They have secured two draws in a row, failing to beat either Everton or Brentford, not that it would likely have made much difference anyway. But despite the fact that they have not exactly been at their best, there is a big gap between these two teams and the visitors should have no problems getting back on the winners’ list.

Manchester United vs Wolverhampton
It has been a grim season for Manchester United, and it got even worse last weekend as they went down 4-1 to Newcastle. The normally mighty club is officially one of the worst teams in the Premier League, and by season’s end it is not beyond the realms of possibility that they fall all the way to 17th – particularly if they lose this weekend.
Sitting a couple of spots back but just a game in arrears of Manchester United is Wolverhampton, who in contrast to their opponent this weekend is actually playing some really solid football of late. They have incredibly won four games in a row, the first few without their best player in Matheus Cunha, and with him back in the frame there is no reason they can’t continue their winning ways. The masses at Old Trafford will be fuming if they walk away with a home loss to a team that was fighting to avoid relegation just a few weeks ago, but based on the way these two sides have been playing, that may be exactly what happens.

Fulham vs Chelsea
Fulham have put themselves in a decent position to challenge for a top five spot this season, but a 1-0 loss to Bournemouth last weekend may put paid to that idea. They are now seven points back from Man City in 5th, and will need absolutely everything to go right over the remainder of the season if they are to get close to earning a spot in the Europa or Champions League next season.
Chelsea are fighting for exactly the same thing, though they are a little better placed than their opponent this weekend. Still, two consecutive draws have seen them surpassed by both Newcastle and Man City, falling to 6th as a result, and they will be desperate to bounce back with a win this weekend to keep themselves on the tails – if not in front of – those two teams, as well as Nottingham Forest. This is a pivotal game for both of these two sides as well as plenty of others around them, and while Fulham at home are a tough team to beat, Chelsea might just be able to bounce back and earn the three points.

Leicester City vs Liverpool
At long last, Leicester City are back on the board! Following week after week after week after week of scoreless performances, they scored not just once, but twice against a disappointing Brighton last weekend. They even managed to secure a draw, picking up a rare point to move to a grand total of 18 in their 32 games this season. But they should enjoy those spoils while they last, because it’s hard to imagine anything other than a shellacking this weekend.
Liverpool were actually challenged for the second time in a row last weekend – having lost to Fulham the week prior – and when they scored an own goal in the 86th minute against West Ham, looked destined for a rare draw. But they showed the champion team that they are by responding almost immediately with a go-ahead goal, holding on to a 2-1 lead to take their lead atop the standings to 13 points. They are on a victory lap for their inevitable title over the next few weeks, and should have no problems continuing the celebrations with a big win against Leicester City.

Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest
This is a big game for both of these teams, albeit for different reasons. Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou is fighting for his job at the team over the next few weeks, and though many believe his papers have already been stamped, a strong finish to the season certainly wouldn’t harm his cause. A 4-2 loss to the Wolves last week was the exact opposite of what he needed though, and they now face a tough matchup against the 3rd place Nottingham Forest, who are in desperate need of a win.
Forest suffered a second consecutive loss last weekend, going down 1-0 to Everton in a disappointing performance, and the spot inside the top five which they have so comfortably held all season long is now in some serious jeopardy. They remain in 3rd spot, but just a solitary game now separates them from Aston Villa way back in 7th, so they cannot afford to keep losing as they are. They are not playing like a team worthy of a Champions League spot at the moment, but with Tottenham just limping to the end of the season, the visitors can secure a much-needed victory to conclude Matchweek 33.
