After a couple of weeks off to cater for various qualifying and league games, as well as the FA Cup quarterfinals, the Premier League returns bright and early on Wednesday morning, Australia time. All 20 teams return to action in what will be a busy week, with Matchweek 30 taking place over three days before, just two days later, Matchweek 31 kicks off over the weekend. While Liverpool’s lead at the top looks unassailable, there are fierce battles going on elsewhere in the standings, meaning there is plenty on the line over the course of this week. With that in mind, let’s dive right in with our EPL tips and predictions for games which make up Matchweek 30.

Wolverhampton vs West Ham
This isn’t exactly a clash of the titans to kick off the week, with Wolverhampton and West Ham currently occupying 17th and 16th spots in the Premier League standings. Both have, however, been in decent form of late. West Ham have lost just one of their last four games, picking up two wins before losing 1-0 to Newcastle and then drawing with Everton.
The Wolves, meanwhile, have not seen many wins this season, but have picked up two and a draw in their last four games as well, giving them a gap over the relegation zone that they should be able to protect. Matheas Cunha will again be absent in a major blow, and though the Wolves have scored in seven consecutive games, that won’t be easy without their best player against a dour West Ham unit. Don’t expect many goals in this one, and I’m backing the visitors to come away with a low-scoring win.

Arsenal vs Fulham
After a disappointing last few games which has seen them pick up two draws and a loss in their last four, the gap between the Gunners and Liverpool is now almost certainly too big to bridge. But as long as there’s a mathematical chance, Arsenal will be doing everything they can to close it – and it starts with a win over the topsy-turvy Fulham this weekend.
Fulham have now traded wins for losses for five games in a row, though an impressive 2-0 win in their latest Premier League game over Tottenham kept them well and truly within striking distance of the league spots in the top five. They’re just three points behind Manchester City in 5th and four behind Chelsea in 4th, but with a tough game in London this weekend that gap may widen a bit this week.

Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United
Nottingham Forest’s unlikely title dreams might be over, but they have bounced back from an indifferent patch of form with a couple of wins in their past two Premier League games, beating first Manchester City and then Ipswich Town prior to the break. And they look likely to make it three in a row this weekend, with a home game against the 13th-placed Manchester United.
The Red Devils have had a season to forget and have little to salvage from the remaining weeks, but a club like them will be keen to finish as strongly as possible and minimise the embarrassment from such an uncompetitive year. They’ve been a little better of late, picking up two wins and two draws in their last four Premier League games, but they will have their work cut out continuing that undefeated streak going in this one.

Brighton and Hove Albion vs Aston Villa
There are roughly five teams currently outside the top five with a very realistic chance of breaking into it, and two of them go head-to-head when Brighton hosts Aston Villa. The home side is playing as well as anyone in the league of late having won four on the trot, and those wins are only getting more impressive – the last two have been a 4-0 win over Southampton, and best of the lot, a 3-0 defeat of Chelsea.
Aston Villa has also beaten Chelsea recently and knocked off Brentford in their most recent Premier League game, while their confidence should be sky high having also secured a spot in the Champions League and FA Cup quarterfinals in the last few weeks. That FA Cup quarterfinal comes just a couple of days before this game, however, and with a short turnaround and an away game against one of the toughest teams in the league at the moment, they look like they might be due for a loss.

Newcastle vs Brentford
While a number of Premier League teams have enjoyed a successful couple of weeks across various competitions, Newcastle had the best of them, beating Liverpool in the EFL Cup Final to secure their first major domestic league trophy since 1955. But their year is far from over; they’ve also got a Champions League spot on the line over the remaining few weeks of the Premier League season, with just two games separating them from Chelsea in 4th. They should be winning this one to potentially jump inside the top four or five, though Brentford will be no pushover.
Currently sitting in 11th, Brentford has won three of their last five games to give themselves a very, very outside chance at working their way into contention for a top five spot, but everything will need to go right for that to happen. And assuming Newcastle have recovered from their no doubt rowdy celebrations following that Carabou Cup win, they should be able to snuff out those Brentford dreams and keep themselves right on the edge of the top five, if not inside it, with a strong win at St. James Park.

Southampton vs Crystal Palace
The bottom of the ladder is a grim-looking place, with three teams having essentially confirmed their relegation with a run of defeats, and Southampton is sitting comfortably at the bottom of that group. They’ve been conceding goals at a rate of knots of late, with eight of their last ten opponents managing at least three.
Crystal Palace are not exactly the most potent offensive unit going around, but they should be able to put at least a couple past the post here. Currently sitting in 12th, they have put together a really nice run of form, winning six of their last eight games as well as their last three on the trot. This presents an excellent opportunity for them to continue their climb up the Premier League standings with a comfortable win over the worst team in the league, with a big goal-scoring effort looking like one of the better EPL predictions for the week.

Bournemouth vs Ipswich Town
After an excellent first 25 games, Bournemouth have had a thoroughly disappointing last four to drop all the way to 10th. But all is not lost just yet, with still only five points separating them from Chelsea in 4th, and what should be an easy win this week. They have lost three of their last four games by a goal, but at home against Ipswich Town this weekend they will be looking to get their season back on track.
Ipswich Town have lost four in a row, and with the Wolves winning two games in that time, that has all but confirmed their fate with regards to relegation this season. Mathematically, of course, it’s far from over, but the way both they and the Wolves are playing it’s virtually impossible to see the nine-point gap being closed. A loss this weekend would be another dagger in the coffin, and it’s hard to see this one going any other way.

Manchester City vs Leicester City
Manchester City badly needs a win, so they will welcome a dreadful Leicester City team with open arms to Etihad Stadium. Now outside of the top four following two losses, a draw and a win in their last four games, Manchester City are still just a point behind Chelsea, but with so many teams hanging around just behind them they will need to get back into some form quick if they’re to have any chance of securing a Champions League spot. Fortunately, they could collectively show up in their sleep and likely still win this one.
Leicester City have lost six games in a row and prior to that last win, had lost another six in a row, but even worse than those results themselves has been the nature of them. Incredibly, in this most recent losing streak, the Foxes have not scored a single goal, conceding 16 of them in what has been a thoroughly depressing few weeks for the 2016 champions. We’ve been making bank off backing them to fail to score, and that is again one of our EPL tips of the week in what should be a comfortable and much-needed win for the home side.

Liverpool vs Everton
Liverpool had a disappointing Premier League break, losing their Champions League tie against PSG on penalties and then going down 2-1 in the EFL Cup final to Newcastle, but they still likely have plenty to look forward to over the remainder of the season. Their 12-point gap over Arsenal atop the EPL standings looks unassailable with nine games to go, particularly considering they have lost just two games all season.
Everton won’t be a pushover; they haven’t lost a Premier League game, incredibly, since mid-January, picking up four wins and five draws in that time. Their last three games have all ended 1-1, though they have each been against teams in the bottom half of the standings – something which Liverpool, clearly, are decidedly not. Expect Everton to give a decent account of themselves here, but it’s hard to imagine that undefeated streak continuing at Anfield.

Chelsea vs Tottenham
The solitary Wednesday evening game in the Premier League will see Chelsea host Tottenham in a game with major implications for, well, a whole lot of teams. The Blues currently hold the much-coveted 4th position, but with five or six teams sitting dangerously close to them, they will quickly lose it if they stumble. They should, however, be winning this one on their home turf.
Tottenham have made a little late-season resurgence in what has been a disappointing year, though two losses and a draw put paid to that prior to the break. They still find themselves down in 14th – albeit with a goal difference as good as anyone outside the top five – and could sink further this week. They could theoretically cause Chelsea a few issues, but this should still be an important win for the home team.
