That was an extraordinary weekend of Premier League action, and after just a couple of days to catch our breath it kicks off again with a midweek round of matches. Last weekend saw five of the top seven teams defeated, and with Arsenal and Nottingham Forest included among those teams and Liverpool decidedly not, the gap at the top of the standings opened up to what may be an insurmountable gap. With still three months of the season left there is plenty of time for that to change, but Liverpool does not look like losing a game. Of course, there is more than just the championship to play for and plenty of games this week have a lot riding on them, so check out our EPL tips and predictions for all ten of them below.

Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa
The midweek round of games kicks off with four of them on Tuesday evening, one of which will see Crystal Palace host Aston Villa. Both teams are coming off good victories, Palace having beaten Fulham 2-0 and Aston Villa holding off Chelsea 2-1 a couple of days after securing a draw against Liverpool.
That win doesn’t do much for Crystal Palace, but for Aston Villa it keeps them right in touch with the top five, with just two points separating them from both Man City and Newcastle in 4th and 5th. But this is far from an easy game for them. Crystal Palace have been solid of late, winning four of their past six, and they can hold Villa to a draw at Selhurst Park.

Wolverhampton vs Fulham
After four teams have been battling it out all season for the much-coveted 17th spot which will keep them in the Premier League, the Wolves have broken away with two wins in their past three games. Their 1-0 defeat of Bournemouth on the weekend was their sixth of the season, and gave them a five-point buffer over Ipswich Town and Leicester City, both of whom lost. They’re far from safe just yet, but they have put themselves in the box seat to avoid relegation out of that quartet.
Fulham, meanwhile, had a chance to get to within two points of 4th spot on the weekend, but blew their opportunity in a 2-0 loss against Crystal Palace. That was a really disappointing result after two consecutive impressive wins, and they will be keen to atone this Tuesday night. Expect them to get the job done away from home.

Brighton and Hove Albion vs Bournemouth
Speaking of teams that blew opportunities at the weekend, Bournemouth will be reeling after their shock 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton. With three of the other members of the top five losing, the win Bournemouth was expected to waltz to would have seen them pass Man City and move to within a point of Nottingham Forest, but instead they slipped to 6th and now have a tough game against an in-form Brighton.
Brighton belted the lowly Southampton to the tune of 4-0, giving them a 7-0 aggregate over the past two games after they beat Chelsea 3-0 the week prior. Interestingly, that 7-0 aggregate comes in the two games after they lost by that exact scoreline to Nottingham Forest. They are in some strong form, and they will need to show every bit of it to beat Bournemouth. This should be a really intriguing game, and at the end of it the two teams might have to be content with splitting the points.

Chelsea vs Southampton
Chelsea was another to suffer a disappointing loss last weekend, making it five of the top seven to go down, theirs coming 2-1 at the hands of Aston Villa. That defeat saw them continue to slide down the standings; their third loss in four games sending them way down to 7th. But they should surely be able to arrest that losing skid against Southampton this weekend.
The bottom team in the league endured yet another heavy defeat in their latest outing, something they have become all too familiar with over the course of the season. This time it was Brighton doing the damage, booting four goals to their nil to send their record to 2-3-21. They are the only team for whom relegation is assured, and should provide an easy kill as Chelsea looks to get their season somewhat back on course.

Brentford vs Everton
Considering that both of these two teams are in the bottom half of the Premier League standings, they are in some pretty solid form. Everton, of course, have been the surprise packet of the past few weeks, and though they suffered a disappointing 2-2 draw against Manchester United after leading 2-0, they did extend their unbeaten run to six games with that result – four of which they have won.
Brentford, meanwhile, pumped Leicester City 4-0 to make it three wins from their last four games. Admittedly that has been a relatively soft run of matches, but they have been impressive nonetheless to move to 11 spot. They have been particularly impressive at home, but Everton is just about the in-form team in the competition at the moment, and can continue their impressive run of form with another upset win.

Tottenham vs Manchester City
Ange Postecoglou might just be saving his job just when he was right on the brink of losing it. It has still been a disappointing season for Tottenham, but their 4-1 victory against Ipswich Town made it three wins on the trot for the team after they have previously won just seven out of 23 this season. They will have a tough time continuing that run this weekend against Manchester City, but given their recent form they are not without a chance.
Manchester City could hardly have had a more topsy turvy few weeks. They beat Ipswich Town 6-0 then beat Chelsea 3-1, before Arsenal pumped them 5-1. They bounced back from that with one of their performances of the year – a 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle – before they went down 2-0 to Liverpool last weekend in a game which showcased just how far ahead of the pack the Reds are. Disappointing as that loss was, it was perhaps made even worse by the fact that they outplayed their opponent for large portions of the game. This is still a really good team in generally solid form – albeit with a few hiccups along the way – and for all of Tottenham’s strong play of late, the visitors should be expecting to get the chocolates here.

Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal
The two teams nearest to Liverpool for much of the season, both Nottingham Forest and Arsenal saw the gap widen between themselves and the top team last weekend after they both endured disappointing losses. For Nottingham Forest, the 4-3 defeat to Newcastle – pulsating as that game was – was their third loss in four games and continued a slide which may well ultimately see them slip out of the top five – particularly if they lose this weekend.
The defeat for Arsenal, however, was even more disappointing. With Liverpool picking up a couple of draws of late, there was some scope for the Gunners to close the gap a little, but the 1-0 result to West Ham was a loss that they could ill afford. They now find themselves an imposing 11 points behind Liverpool, which even with a game in hand is going to be extremely difficult – if not mathematically impossible – for them to make up over the remaining 11 or 12 games of the year. With their injuries up front they were always going to need to find a new avenue to goal and failed in that regard last weekend, but against a Nottingham Forest side that has been very leaky of late they can bounce back in a quality game.

Manchester United vs Ipswich Town
It’s been an incredibly disappointing season for Manchester United, but at least their fanbase got some joy on the weekend in an entertaining affair against Everton, even if it did only end in a draw. United seemed destined for another loss when they went into the break 2-0 down, but a thrilling second half saw them bounce back to snare a point and keep them from falling all the way down to 16th. They have not won a Premier League game for a month now, but should be expecting to break that duck this Wednesday.
Ipswich Town continued their losing ways on the weekend, going down without much of a fight to Tottenham. That made it five losses from their last six games, the other resulting in a draw, and with Wolverhampton winning their chances of being relegated increased dramatically. Few teams can’t deal with Ipswich Town at the minute, and for all their woes, Manchester United should be able to as well – and if they don’t, Old Trafford may well go into meltdown.

Liverpool vs Newcastle
What a weekend that was for Liverpool. After suffering a couple of recent draws, Matchweek 26 could have spelled trouble for them as they faced a tough matchup against Manchester City while Arsenal had a seemingly easy win for the taking against West Ham. The reverse occurred. The Gunners went down while Liverpool, despite being beaten in many facets of the game, recorded a 2-0 win to take their lead at the top of the standings to a potentially unassailable 11 points. They have another tough matchup this weekend, but few EPL tips pages would be doubting their ability to get the job done again given that performance against Man City.
Newcastle had a really impressive win of their own, bouncing back from two consecutive losses – the second of which was a shocking 4-0 loss to Man City – with a 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest. They would have been a little displeased with how close that game ended up being given they established a 4-1 lead courtesy of four goals in 10 minutes in the first half, but they held on for a pivotal win nonetheless to jump into the top five. A win here could theoretically see them move up to 3rd spot, but Liverpool are on another level and will be expecting a win in a quality game here.

West Ham vs Leicester City
West Ham will be Liverpool’s best friends at the moment, having knocked off the second-placed Arsenal in a surprise 1-0 victory last weekend. That wreaked havoc at the top of the standings, though for West Ham itself it didn’t do all that much. Way down in 16th, they’re theoretically within touching distance of the relegation zone, but with 13 points separating them from Ipswich Town and Leicester City in 18th and 19th they won’t be too concerned.
It's Leicester City who they face this weekend, and while West Ham are no world beaters, given the recent form of their visitors they will be feeling pretty confident heading into this one. Leicester City has lost their last three games by a total of 10 goals and have failed to score in that time, their latest defeat a 4-0 loss to Brentford last weekend. West Ham are a dour team, but they have been relatively tough to score against of late, and given Leicester City’s troubles in that regard this looms as a low-scoring win to the home side.
