AFL 2025 Round 16 – Betting tips & Predictions

AFL 2025 Round 16
Round 16 action kicks off on Thursday when the Power welcomes the Blues to Adelaide Oval. Once again, we see the Magpies hold onto the top spot on the ladder with 48 points. The Eagles remain at the bottom of the ladder with just one win this season. This round, we see those two teams face off against each other.
Who will get the all-important premiership points in Round 16? Let’s get stuck into some 2025 AFL predictions for Round 16 action!

Port Adelaide Power vs Carlton Blues
We kick Round 16 over in Adelaide when we see the Power go up against the Blues. These two teams have similar records with the Power sitting 12th on the ladder and the Blues sitting in 10th. They both have identical records over the past five games, losing last time out, which snapped a two-game winning streak (and before that, two losses). The Power went down to the Swans and the Blues went down to the Kangaroos.
With the Kangaroos sitting near the bottom of the ladder, you would have to say the loss to the Blues was worse. To bounce back from that kind of loss is difficult, not to mention having to make the trip over to Adelaide. I’m actually surprised the Power isn't shorter, honestly. The Power seems to play better at home as well, so I’ll be taking them to cover the spread.
Predicted Squads
Port Adelaide Power: J.Sinn, B.Zerk-Thatcher, M.Bergman, K.Farrell, E.Ratugolea, La.Jones, J.Burgoyne, J.Horne-Francis, W.Drew, D.Byrne-Jones, S.Powell-Pepper, J.Mead, W.Rioli, M.Georgiades, J.Richards, D.Visentini, C.Rozee, Z.Butters, J.Sweet, C.Moraes, M.Liddy, R.Burton & J.Finlayson
Carlton Blues: N.Haynes, J.Weitering, A.Cincotta, O.Hollands, J.Silvagni, A.Saad, S.Docherty, P.Cripps, B.Acres, C.Lord, M.McGovern, G.Hewett, J.Binns, C.Curnow, L.Fogarty, T.De Koning, A.Cerra, Z.Williams, M.Carroll, C.Durdin, L.Cowan, O.Fantasia & J.Motlop
Sydney Swans vs Western Bulldogs
We have another game with two teams that have identical records over their last five games. Two wins in their last two games, which were preceded by back-to-back losses and then a win. The Swans welcome the Bulldogs to the SCG and the Swans have recent wins over the Power and Tigers. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have wins over the Tigers and Saints.
For the Bulldogs, they look set to be without Adam Treloar for a few weeks as he deals with a calf injury. They got a statement 135-56 win over the Tigers last time out and could prove a bit difficult for the Swans to overcome. I think this might be a win that is difficult for the Swans to obtain. With the way both teams play, there will be plenty of scoring opportunities. As long as they can take advantage of that, we’re in for a high-scoring game.

Predicted Squads
Sydney Swans: D.Rampe, T.McCartin, L.Melican, M.Roberts, N.Blakey, S.Wicks, E.Gulden, Ch.Warner, C.Mills, B.Campbell, W.Hayward, J.McInerney, T.Papley, J.Amartey, J.Jordon, B.Grundy, I.Heeney, J.Rowbottom, A.Francis, H.Cunningham, A.Sheldrick, H.McLean & R.Bice
Western Bulldogs: N.Coffield, J.O’Donnell, B.Williams, L.Bramble, R.Lobb, B.Dale, S.Davidson, E.Richards, J.Freijah, R.Sanders, A.Naughton, M.Kennedy, L.Vandermeer, S.Darcy, R.West, T.English, M.Bontempelli, T.Liberatore, J.Dolan, C.Hynes, L.McNeil, J.Harmes & B.Khamis
Gold Coast Suns vs Melbourne Demons
There must be something in the water because we have another game where the two teams have an identical record for the last five games. Both the Suns and Demons have lost their last three games, after winning the two games before that. For this game, the Demons make the trip up to the Gold Coast. They are both sitting outside the top eight and a win here is becoming very important for their finals chances.
Aidan Johnson is available for selection for the Demons. The Suns had a great start to the season, but things are starting to unravel and they need to stop the slide. I think the Suns will be looking to atone from their bombing last time out, which saw them going down to the Giants, 99-106, after leading until midway through the final quarter. Look for a statement performance from the Suns.
Predicted Squads
Gold Coast Suns: J.Jeffrey, M.Andrew, S.Collins, J.Noble, W.Powell, D.Rioli, S.Clohesy, M.Rowell, L.Weller, B.Ainsworth, S.Flanders, B.Humphrey, B.Long, J.Walter, B.King, J.Witts, T.Miller, N.Anderson, B.Fiorini, E.Read, B.Uwland, C.Budarick & N.Holman
Melbourne Demons: J.Bowey, S.May, C.Salem, J.McVee, J.Lever, D.Turner, K.Chandler, C.Petracca, C.Windsor, H.Langford, B.Fritsch, T.Sparrow, A.Johnson, H.Petty, K.Pickett, M.Gawn, C.Oliver, J.Viney, J.van Rooyen, T.Rivers, E.Langdon, B.Howes & X.Lindsay
Hawthorn Hawks vs North Melbourne Kangaroos
We head to Tasmania for this Saturday afternoon game between the Hawks and the Kangaroos. The Hawks will be looking to build on their two-game winning streak and should welcome back the likes of James Sicily, James Worpel and Jack Scrimshaw. The Hawks are sitting in the fifth spot on the ladder and would obviously love to snag a top-four spot a win over the lowly Kangaroos just may do that.
The Kangaroos got a surprising win over the Blues last time out and looking at some of their previous matches, they have been keeping things relatively close, so covering a 32.5 line looks to be a real possibility. The Hawks have had some tough competition as of late, including the Lions and Magpies. I think they’ll win this one, but it will probably be closer than people think.
Predicted Squads
Hawthorn Hawks: J.Battle, T.Barrass, K.Amon, J.Impey, J.Weddle, M.D’Ambrosio, C.Macdonald, J.Worpel, H.Morrison, B.Hardwick, D.Moore, S.Butler, J.Scrimshaw, M.Chol, J.Ginnivan, L.Meek, J.Newcombe, J.Ward, J.Sicily, C.Nash, J.Gunston, N.Watson & C.Jiath
North Melbourne Kangaroos: W.Dawson, T.Pink, G.Logue, F.O’Sullivan, C.Daniel, L.McDonald, D.Stephens, L.Davies-Uniacke, J.Simpkin, T.Powell, N.Larkey, C.McKercher, P.Curtis, J.Darling, C.Zurhaar, T.Xerri, G.Wardlaw, H.Sheezel, R.Hardeman, L.Parker, J.Konstanty, R.Hansen Jr & Z.Fisher
Collingwood Magpies vs West Coast Eagles
First versus last on the ladder. Are we in for a massive blowout? Or will the Magpies get complacent and give the Eagles a little bit of a sniff. There’s a lot to like about the Magpies and their players will enjoy many scoring opportunities against a team that is having a very difficult year. The Eagles have just one win to their name so far this season and things aren’t looking much better.
To make matters even worse for the Eagles, the season is over for Oscar Allen, who succumbed to a calf/ Achilles issue. The Eagles have kept things close-ish recently, but this has been against teams like the Blues and the Kangaroos. When they step out against the ladder-leading Magpies, it will probably be a different story. It’s a big spread to cover, but the Magpies are capable of covering it.
Predicted Squads
Collingwood Magpies: .Howe, B.Frampton, D.Houston, H.Perryman, D.Moore, I.Quaynor, J.Crisp, S.Pendlebury, S.Sidebottom, B.Hill, T.Membrey, C.West, B.Maynard, B.Mihocek, D.McStay, D.Cameron, N.Long, N.Daicos, P.Lipinski, J.Daicos, E.Allan, W.Hoskin-Elliott & L.Sullivan
West Coast Eagles: R.Ginbey, J.Shanahan, R.Maric, L.Duggan, S.Brock, L.Baker, T.Dewar, J.Hutchinson, J.Hunt, J.Graham, J.Williams, L.Ryan, J.Cripps, A.Reid, E.Hewett, M.Flynn, T.Kelly, H.Reid, T.Brockman, B.Allan, B.Williams, T.McCarthy & C.Hall
Richmond Tigers vs Adelaide Crows
To kick things off on Sunday, we have the 17th-placed Tigers welcoming the fourth-placed Crows to the MCG. For the Crows, it looks like James Peatling is set to return. The slide continues for the Tigers after going down to the Bulldogs last time out, 56-135. The Crows had their three-game winning streak snapped last time out, losing 44-47 to the Hawks.
The Crows are known to struggle at the MCG, but they shouldn’t have much trouble dismantling the struggling Tigers. The last three times these two teams have played, it has been at Adelaide Oval, with the Tigers winning two of the last three. The Crows should easily flip the script and with decent-ish weather in Melbourne, there could be a goal-scoring opportunity for the Crows.

Predicted Squads
Richmond Tigers: B.Miller, N.Balta, N.Broad, S.Banks, T.Brown, N.Vlastuin, H.Ralphsmith, D.Prestia, L.Trainor, J.Ross, S.Campbell, S.Green, R.Mansell, T.Lynch, J.Faull, T.Nankervis, T.Taranto, J.Hopper, J.Short, K.McIntosh, T.Sonsie, T.Sims & N.Balta
Adelaide Crows: J.Worrell, J.Butts, W.Milera, M.Michalanney, M.Keane, R.Laird, I.Cumming, J.Dawson, D.Curtin, B.Keays, R.Thilthorpe, L.Murphy, A.Neal-Bullen, T.Walker, D.Fogarty, R.O’Brien, I.Rankine, S.Berry, J.Rachele, J.Soligo, M.Hinge, J.Peatling & B.Smith
Fremantle Dockers vs St Kilda Saints
To wrap things up for Round 16, we head to Perth for the match between the Dockers and Saints. The Dockers are sitting within the top eight, in sixth spot, while the Saints are down in 15th spot. The Dockers have won their last five games and they are one of the in-form teams in the AFL right now. At home though, they should prove too good for a team like the Saints.
The Saints have won just one of their last five games but did put in a commendable performance last time out in their match against the Magpies. I’m expecting that the Dockers will be good enough to cover the spread as well. This is a very winnable game and the Dockers should be looking to make an example of the Saints, especially in their fortress that is Optus Stadium.
Predicted Squads
Fremantle Dockers: L.Ryan, J.Draper, B.Cox, H.Chapman, K.Worner, J.Clark, J.Sharp, C.Wagner, M.Johnson, M.Frederick, S.Bolton, B.Banfield, P.Voss, J.Treacy, J.Amiss, L.Jackson, C.Serong, A.Brayshaw, N.Erasmus, N.Fyfe, N.O’Driscoll, M.Reid & J.Aish
St Kilda Saints: A.Caminiti, C.Wilkie, J.Webster, H.Clark, N.Wanganeen-Milera, A.Tauru, M.Wood, J.Sinclair, M.Windhager, J.Higgins, I.Keeler, B.Hill, D.Butler, C.Sharman, M.Owens, R.Marshall, J.Macrae, J.Steele, L.Stocker, D.Wilson, M.Hall, R.Byrnes & T.Travaglia
