Fremantle Dockers vs Essendon Bombers
To kick things off in Round 15, we have the Dockers welcoming the Bombers to Optus Stadium. This isn’t exactly a sizzling match for prime time on Thursday, but the Dockers have been building nicely and are currently sitting in the top eight thanks to a four-game win streak. The Bombers, on the other hand, are on a three-game losing streak and they were simply awful against the Cats last time out, losing 56-151.
The Bombers have a lot of senior players out, but they should have played better than they did against the Cats. Now, they fly over to Perth to face off against the high-flying Dockers, that’s no easy feat. The Dockers just scraped through with a win over the Kangaroos last time out, 73-67. The quick turnaround for the Bombers is another in the negative column. Expect a convincing Dockers win.
Predicted Squads
Fremantle Dockers: L.Ryan, J.Draper, B.Cox, H.Chapman, C.Wagner, J.Clark, J.Sharp, S.Bolton, M.Johnson, M.Frederick, I.Dudley, M.Reid, P.Voss, J.Treacy, J.Amiss, L.Jackson, C.Serong, A.Brayshaw, S.Darcy, B.Banfield, N.Erasmus, K.Worner & N.Fyfe
Essendon Bombers: A.McGrath, J.Laverde, A.Roberts, Z.Johnson, J.Prior, A.Clarke, X.Duursma, Z.Merrett, L.Lual, M.Guelfi, N.Caddy, N.Martin, A.May, P.Wright, I.Kako, V.Visentini, J.Caldwell, D.Parish, J.Gresham, W.Setterfield, A.Day-Wicks, L.Blakiston & A.Perkins
Geelong Cats vs Brisbane Lions
Two teams in the top four, this is the clash of the round, on paper anyway. We see the Cats welcome the Lions to Geelong on Friday night. The Cats got a massive win over the Bombers last time out, but they lost Sam De Koning in the process and he is set for a stint on the sidelines. For the Lions, it looks like Jack Payne’s season is over after a ruptured patella tendon.
The Cats are riding a five-game winning streak, while the Lions will be looking to put an end to their losing streak at two games in this clash. The two teams have already met this season and this resulted in a nine-point win to the Lions in a game that was played at the Gabba. It’s difficult to go against the Cats at the moment, especially playing at home. Play it safe and take the Cats for the win.
Predicted Squads
Geelong Cats: .Henry, J.Bews, C.O’Sullivan, L.Humphries, T.Stewart, Z.Guthrie, M.Blicavs, M.Holmes, O.Dempsey, S.Mannagh, B.Close, G.Miers, T.Stengle, J.Cameron, P.Dangerfield, R.Stanley, B.Smith, T.Atkins, J.Martin, M.O’Connor, O.Mullin, S.Neale & M.Duncan
Brisbane Lions: D.Zorko, T.Doedee, R.Lester, N.Answerth, H.Andrews, B.Starcevich, J.Fletcher, H.McCluggage, J.Berry, C.Cameron, E.Hipwood, W.Ashcroft, C.Rayner, L.Morris, C.Ah Chee, D.Fort, J.Dunkley, L.Neale, L.Ashcroft, S.Day, Z.Bailey, D.Wilmot & K.Lohmann
Carlton Blues vs North Melbourne Kangaroos
Man, the Blues must have done something really terrible in their past lives to deserve the bad luck they have been dumped with! So many injuries and they just keep piling up as well. The likes of Sam Walsh, Charlie Curnow and Hudson O’Keeffe have all joined the casualty ward. The Blues are currently in 10th position on the ladder and have managed back-to-back wins over lesser-quality teams (Bombers and Eagles).
Now, they face off against the Kangaroos, who are sitting in 16th position on the ladder, but did give the Dockers a run for their money last time out and ended up going down 67-73. There is fight in this Kangaroos team and the Blues will need to be at their best to get the win here. I think they will win, but the Roos will keep it pretty close, so take them to cover the line.
Predicted Squads
Carlton Blues: M.McGovern, J.Weitering, A.Saad, O.Hollands, J.Silvagni, S.Docherty, N.Haynes, P.Cripps, H.Lemmey, A.Cincotta, L.Young, L.Fogarty, J.Motlop, C.Curnow, Z.Williams, T.De Koning, A.Cerra, G.Hewett, M.Carroll, C.Lord, O.Fantasia, B.Acres & C.Durdin
North Melbourne Kangaroos: K.Dawson, T.Pink, G.Logue, R.Hardeman, C.Daniel, L.McDonald, D.Stephens, L.Davies-Uniacke, J.Simpkin, T.Powell, N.Larkey, C.McKercher, P.Curtis, J.Darling, C.Zurhaar, T.Xerri, G.Wardlaw, H.Sheezel, F.O’Sullivan, Z.Fisher, L.Parker, J.Konstanty & R.Hansen Jr
Port Adelaide Power vs Sydney Swans
Two teams that are sitting outside the top eight and will be desperate for a win to boost their finals hopes. The Power play host to the Swans. The Power are on a two-game winning streak at the moment, when wins over the Giants and Demons. The Swans will have fresh legs coming into this clash as they had their bye last round. Before their bye, they got a much-needed win over the Tigers.
Aliir Aliir and Jason Horne-Francis both need scans for the Power, so keep an eye out for them if they make it into the squad for this clash. We’ll likely see some key players return for the Swans over the coming weeks and for this clash, we should see Joel Amartey and Matt Roberts return. The two teams have already met this season, with the Power getting an eight-point win over the Swans at the SCG. A little revenge could be on the cards.
Predicted Squads
Port Adelaide Power: B.Zerk-Thatcher, E.Ratugolea, M.Bergman, K.Farrell, A.Aliir, R.Burton, J.Burgoyne, O.Wines, W.Drew, D.Byrne-Jones, S.Powell-Pepper, J.Richards, W.Rioli, M.Georgiades, J.Horne-Francis, D.Visentini, C.Rozee, Z.Butters, J.Sweet, J.Mead, J.Sinn, M.Liddy & H.Jackson
Sydney Swans: D.Rampe, T.McCartin, L.Melican, J.Lloyd, N.Blakey, S.Wicks, J.Jordon, Ch.Warner, C.Mills, B.Campbell, W.Hayward, J.McInerney, J.Amartey, H.McLean, M.Roberts, B.Grundy, I.Heeney, J.Rowbottom, H.Cunningham, R.Bice, T.Hanily, A.Sheldrick & T.Adams
Collingwood Magpies vs St Kilda Saints
For the Saturday night game, we see the Magpies face off against the Saints. The Magpies sit on top of the ladder and just squeezed home last time out over the Demons, winning 72-71. Brayden Maynard may be returning for the Magpies as well. Expect a few changes for the Saints, who went down to the Bulldogs, 60-132 last time out. There were many players out on the field that just weren’t pulling their weight.
The Magpies also had the last round off, thanks to the bye, so they will come into this one with fresher legs. They are head and shoulders above the Saints and shouldn’t have any trouble dispatching them. The line is a bit steep, but the Magpies are more than capable of covering it. This might be the game that the Magpies look to make a statement in for the rest of the teams.
Predicted Squads
Collingwood Magpies: J.Howe, B.Frampton, J.Daicos, I.Quaynor, D.Moore, D.Houston, J.Crisp, S.Pendlebury, B.Maynard, B.Hill, T.Membrey, B.McCreery, J.Elliott, B.Mihocek, D.McStay, D.Cameron, N.Long, N.Daicos, H.Perryman, S.Sidebottom, L.Sullivan, W.Hayes & W.Hoskin-Elliott
St Kilda Saints: I.Keeler, C.Wilkie, J.Webster, M.Windhager, N.Wanganeen-Milera, R.Byrnes, M.Wood, J.Sinclair, M.Phillipou, J.Higgins, Z.Jones, B.Hill, C.Sharman, A.Caminiti, M.Owens, R.Marshall, H.Clark, J.Steele, J.Macrae, L.Stocker, A.Tauru, M.Hall & J.Carroll
GWS Giants vs Gold Coast Suns
The Giants are sitting in seventh place on the ladder and will welcome the Suns to ENGIE Stadium, who are just one spot above them on the ladder. It’s tricky to know what we are going to get from each of these teams, as consistency hasn’t really been their strong suit. The Giants have won four of their last five, including last time out over the Lions. The Suns are currently on a two-game losing streak with losses to the Dockers and Cats.
Expect Giants captain Toby Greene to be back in the lineup, which will be a significant boost for the team in front of their home crowd. The Giants have won the last four meetings with the Suns and most of them have been fairly big wins as well. I expect the home crowd edge will come in handy for the Giants in this game. The Giants should win this one and I’ll be playing it safe, taking them to get the outright win.
Predicted Squads
GWS Giants: C.Idun, S.Taylor, L.Aleer, L.Whitfield, J.Buckley, L.Ash, X.O’Halloran, T.Bedford, J.Kelly, M.Gruzewski, A.Cadman, D.Jones, C.Brown, J.Hogan, J.Riccardi, N.Madden, F.Callaghan, T.Green, J.Fonti, H.Himmelberg, H.Rowston, H.Thomas & J.Delana
Gold Coast Suns: .Jeffrey, M.Andrew, S.Collins, J.Noble, W.Powell, D.Rioli, S.Clohesy, M.Rowell, B.Fiorini, L.Lombard, S.Flanders, B.Humphrey, B.Long, J.Walter, B.King, J.Witts, T.Miller, N.Anderson, N.Holman, S.Lemmens D.Swallow, B.Uwland & B.Ainsworth
Western Bulldogs vs Richmond Tigers
We wrap up Round 15 at Marvel Stadium when we see the Bulldogs host the Tigers on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs are a team that is comfortable covering big spreads against the lower-level teams, as we saw last time out when they got a 132-60 win over the Saints. The Tigers are nursing a four-game losing streak, with losses to the Kangaroos, Bombers, Giants and Swans.
The Bulldogs have seen a lot of consistency with their squad, so don’t expect many, if any, changes from their last game to this one. Jayden Short might return for the Tigers after overcoming his calf injury. The last time these two teams met, the Bulldogs got a massive 91-point victory. All the pieces are falling together for the Bulldogs and they are smelling blood in the water. Expect a big win for the Dogs.
Predicted Squads
Western Bulldogs: L.Cleary, J.O’Donnell, B.Williams, L.Bramble, R.Lobb, B.Dale, S.Davidson, E.Richards, J.Freijah, R.Sanders, A.Naughton, M.Kennedy, L.Vandermeer, S.Darcy, R.West, T.English, M.Bontempelli, T.Liberatore, J.Dolan, B.Khamis, L.McNeil, A.Treloar & C.Hynes
Richmond Tigers: B.Miller, N.Balta, N.Broad, S.Banks, T.Brown, N.Vlastuin, H.Ralphsmith, D.Prestia, L.Trainor, J.Ross, S.Campbell, S.Green, R.Mansell, T.Lynch, J.Faull, T.Nankervis, T.Taranto, J.Hopper, J.Short, K.McAuliffe, T.Sonsie, T.Sims & K.McIntosh
