Fremantle Dockers vs Collingwood Magpies
The Magpies come into this one on the quick turnaround after playing on Saturday night and having to make the trip across to Perth doesn’t help either. Both teams are coming off losses, but it was the Dockers' loss that was far more disappointing, going down to the Saints 33-94. The Dockers will have the home crowd this time out. Will that be enough?
On the flip side, it was just a three-point loss to the Cats last time out for the Magpies, in a game that saw the Pies winning for pretty much the entire second and third quarter, but letting it slip in the fourth. The Magpies have won three of the last four games against the Dockers and the last time the two clashed, it resulted in a draw.
Predicted Squads
Fremantle Dockers: L.Ryan, A.Pearce, B.Cox, K.Worner, J.Draper, J.Clark, J.Sharp,B.Banfield, M.Johnson, M.Frederick, S.Switkowski, S.Bolton, L.Jackson, J.Treacy, J.Amiss, P.Voss, C.Serong, A.Brayshaw, M.Reid, H.Chapman, C.Wagner, I.Dudley & Q.Narkle
Collingwood Magpies: E.Allan, D.Moore, D.Houston, H.Perryman, B.Frampton, J.Daicos, J.Crisp, S.Sidebottom, P.Lipinski, B.Hill, T.Membrey, J.Elliott, B.McCreery, M.Cox, J.Howe, D.Cameron, N.Long, N.Daicos, L.Sullivan, C.West, L.Schultz, I.Quaynor & W.Hoskin-Elliott
St Kilda Saints vs Carlton Blues
St Kilda smashed the Dockers last time out and I’m sure they will be looking to build on that momentum after putting an end to the three-game losing streak they were on. Carlton, on the other hand, were on the receiving end of a hiding last time out, going down to the Crows, 50-110. That loss put an end to their three-game winning streak.
I’m a bit surprised at the odds right now, as they have the Blues as the favourites. Both teams are inconsistent and I do believe the Blues are capable of fashioning a bounce-back performance. However, the odds for the Saints are just too good for me to ignore. You can take them outright if you’re confident, or play it safe with them on the line.
Predicted Squads
St Kilda Saints: D.Howard, C.Wilkie, J.Webster, R.Byrnes, N.Wanganeen-Milera, J.Sinclair, D.Wilson, L.Stocker, L.Connell, H.Garcia, B.Hill, M.Owens, C.Sharman, A.Caminiti, J.Higgins, R.Marshall, J.Macrae, J.Steele, L.Collard, M.Hall, M.Windhager, H.Boxshall & T.Travaglia
Carlton Blues: M.Carroll, J.Weitering, A.Saad, N.Haynes, M.McGovern, B.Acres, E.Hollands, P.Cripps, O.Hollands, S.Walsh, H.McKay, J.Motlop, L.Fogarty, C.Curnow, L.Young, T.De Koning, A.Cerra, G.Hewett, W.White, C.Lord, C.Durdin, S.Docherty & L.Cowan
Melbourne Demons vs Hawthorn Hawks
The 15th placed Demons face off against the third placed Hawks at the MCG on Saturday afternoon. Both teams are coming into this game on a winning streak, with the Demons winning their last three games in a row and the Hawks winning their last two. The wins for the Demons have mainly come against lower teams and this clash against the Hawks looks difficult.
The Hawks have speed and I think that will work very well to their advantage against the Demons, although the Demons have won the last four games against the Hawks. These are two different teams now and I think the Hawks are good enough to start turning the tables on that stat. The Hawks should win this one fairly comfortably.
Predicted Squads
Melbourne Demons: J.Bowey, S.May, T.Rivers, C.Windsor, T.McDonald, J.McVee, T.Sparrow, J.Viney, X.Lindsay, K.Tholstrup, J.Melksham, E.Langdon, B.Fritsch, K.Chandler, K.Pickett, M.Gawn, C.Petracca, H.Langford, C.Spargo, C.Salem, C.Oliver, D.Turner & H.Sharp
Hawthorn Hawks: T.Barrass, B.Hardwick, J.Sicily, J.Battle, J.Impey, J.Weddle, C.Macdonald, J.Ward, M.D’Ambrosio, H.Morrison, N.Watson, J.Ginnivan, J.Gunston, M.Chol, D.Moore, L.Meek, J.Newcombe, H.Hustwaite, J.Worpel, L.Breust, F.Maginness, C.Jiath & B.Macdonald
Essendon Bombers vs Sydney Swans
Both the Bombers and Swans were able to get back into the winner’s circle last time out, but both their wins did come at a cost. For the Bombers, Harrison Jones, Jordan Ridley and Jade Gresham are all injured and for the Swans, Lewis Melican has been hit with a three-match suspension for his strike on Toby Bedford.
The Bombers got a narrow win against the Kangaroos (who are sitting second last on the ladder), while the Swans got out of the blocks early against the Giants, but it ended up being a very scrappy game with lots of errors. Despite playing at Marvel Stadium, I think there is more potential in the Swans side.
Predicted Squads
Essendon Bombers: A.McGrath, B.McKay, L.Hayes, M.Redman, Z.Reid, J.Prior, X.Duursma, Z.Merrett, J.Caldwell, S.El-Hawli, N.Caddy, N.Martin, K.Langford, P.Wright, I.Kako, T.Goldstein, B.Hobbs, S.Durham, E.Tsatas, W.Setterfield, A.Perkins, A.Roberts & J.Menzie
Sydney Swans: P.Ladhams, T.McCartin, M.Roberts, D.Rampe, N.Blakey, S.Wicks, J.Lloyd, I.Heeney, O.Florent, B.Campbell, A.Francis, J.Jordon, W.Hayward, H.McLean, Co.Warner, B.Grundy, Ch.Warner, J.Rowbottom, J.Hamling, R.Bice, C.Cleary, J.McInerney & A.Sheldrick
Gold Coast Suns vs Western Bulldogs
This looks to be one of the games of the round as two teams in the top six will battle it out on neutral ground, playing at TIO Stadium in Darwin on Saturday night. The Suns, who are sitting in fourth spot on the ladder, were handed a loss last time out, courtesy of the league leading Lions, 49-66. After the first quarter, the Suns were never in the game.
The Bulldogs, on the other hand, have been building nicely and are currently on a three-game winning streak. Last time out, they completely put the Power to the sword, winning by almost 100 points. When both teams are on it, there are a lot of points in them and I think there’s the potential for some points in Darwin. Take the overs.

Predicted Squads
Gold Coast Suns: M.Andrew, B.Uwland, S.Collins, J.Noble, W.Powell, D.Rioli, N.Holman, M.Rowell, T.Miller, B.Ainsworth, B.Fiorini, S.Flanders, W.Graham, E.Read, B.King, J.Witts, B.Humphrey, N.Anderson, J.Jeffrey, J.Walter, C.Budarick, D.Swallow & J.Rogers
Western Bulldogs: L.Cleary, J.O’Donnell, L.Bramble, J.Johannisen, R.Lobb, B.Dale, B.Williams, E.Richards, J.Freijah, J.Harmes, B.Khamis, M.Kennedy, R.Sanders, A.Naughton, R.West, T.English, M.Bontempelli, T.Liberatore, S.Davidson, L.McNeil, A.Treloar, L.Vandermeer & J.Busslinger
Port Adelaide Power vs Adelaide Crows
We are treated to another Adelaide battle when we see the Power up against the Crows. Each team’s performance last time out couldn’t have been more different. The Power were handed a 41-131 thumping, courtesy of the Bulldogs. While it was the Crows that were doing the thumping, beating the Blues 110-50.
You never really know what you’re going to get with the Power and the difference between their best and worst games is very significant. The Crows are the favourites and I agree with the market, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Power keep this one close. I’ll be playing it safe and sticking with the Crows to get the outright win.
Predicted Squads
Port Adelaide Power: La.Jones, A.Aliir, M.Bergman, C.Rozee, E.Ratugolea, K.Farrell, W.Drew, O.Wines, J.Burgoyne, J.Mead, M.Georgiades, W.Rioli, S.Powell-Pepper, O.Lord, J.Richards, J.Sweet, J.Horne-Francis, Z.Butters, L.Evans, D.Byrne-Jones, D.Visentini, W.Lorenz & J.Finlayson
Adelaide Crows: J.Worrell, J.Butts, R.Laird, W.Milera, M.Keane, M.Michalanney, I.Cumming, J.Dawson, D.Curtin, B.Keays, R.Thilthorpe, L.Nankervis, D.Fogarty, T.Walker, A.Neal-Bullen, R.O’Brien, J.Soligo, I.Rankine, Z.Taylor, J.Rachele, B.Smith, J.Peatling & S.Berry
Richmond Tigers vs West Coast Eagles
I feel like I ask this question every week, can the Eagles finally get their first win of the 2025 season this round? I think this could very well be their best chance so far as the 18th-placed Eagles take on the 16th-placed Tigers. The Tigers have only won twice so far this season, which includes a win against the Blues in Round 1 and win against the Suns in Round 6.
With the game at the MCG, I have to give the edge to the Tigers and on paper, they have the players that are good enough to win against a team like the Eagles. Both teams have obviously been struggling so far this season, but it’s the Eagles that usually don’t even look close to winning. There’s still some value with taking the Tigers in the head-to-head market I think.
Predicted Squads
Richmond Tigers: B.Miller, N.Balta, N.Vlastuin, J.Short, N.Broad, L.Trainor, H.Ralphsmith, T.Dow, S.Banks, S.Campbell, J.Ross, S.Green, J.Faull, T.Lynch, R.Mansell, T.Nankervis, T.Taranto, J.Hopper, M.Rioli, T.Brown, K.McIntosh, S.Lalor & J.Trezise
West Coast Eagles: R.Maric, S.Brock, L.Baker, L.Duggan, O.Allen, J.Hunt, B.Hough, T.Kelly, R.Ginbey, J.Graham, J.Waterman, M.Owies, L.Ryan, A.Reid, J.Cripps, M.Flynn, J.Hutchinson, H.Reid, E.Hewett, T.Brockman, J.Williams, T.Cole & T.Dewar
Geelong Cats vs GWS Giants
The Giants head to Geelong to face off against the Cats on Sunday afternoon and while the Cats do have a good record at the stadium, it’s actually the Giants that have won their last four at this venue. The Cats put in a good performance against the Magpies last time out and have won four of their last five games.
While the Cats look to be building nicely and could be looking at a top-four spot very soon, the Giants are on a little bit of a slide. They have lost their last three games in a row to the Crows, the Bulldogs and the Swans last time out. Inconsistency is a real problem for the Giants and I think they’ll struggle to make it five wins in a row at GMHBA Stadium.
Predicted Squads
Geelong Cats: C.O’Sullivan, S.De Koning, M.Blicavs, T.Stewart, M.O’Connor, Z.Guthrie, M.Duncan, M.Holmes, O.Dempsey, B.Close, S.Mannagh, T.Stengle, J.Cameron, P.Dangerfield, S.Neale, J.Henry, B.Smith, T.Atkins, J.Bowes, O.Mullin, O.Henry, J.Clark, O.Wiltshire
GWS Giants: C.Idun, S.Taylor, H.Himmelberg, L.Whitfield, J.Buckley, L.Ash, J.Wehr, F.Callaghan, C.Ward, D.Jones, A.Cadman, X.O’Halloran, T.Greene, J.Hogan, H.Thomas, K.Briggs, T.Bedford, T.Green, T.McMullin, C.Brown, J.Fonti, J.Delana & J.Stringer
North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Brisbane Lions
Another game is being played at a more neutral venue in Round 9, with the Kangaroos and Lions doing battle in Hobart in the final game of the round. All the stats and recent form points to a massive Lions victory and I would be surprised if we got another else here. In the last three games between these two teams, the Lions have won by 70, 75 and 108 points.
That isn’t very good reading if you are a Kangaroo supporter. The Kangaroos have lost their last six games while the Lions have won four of their last five. The Lions are more consistent and are clearly the better team. I expect they are good enough to cover the line, even though it is a big one. It’s not a matter of “if”, but more of “by how much”.
Predicted Squads
North Melbourne Kangaroos: C.Comben, K.Dawson, G.Wardlaw, L.McDonald, C.Daniel, T.Powell, F.O’Sullivan, L.Davies-Uniacke, C.McKercher, D.Stephens, N.Larkey, H.Sheezel, C.Zurhaar, J.Darling, J.Konstanty, T.Xerri, L.Parker, J.Simpkin, Z.Duursma, R.Hardeman, W.Phillips, F.Maley & B.Scott
Brisbane Lions: D.Zorko, J.Payne, R.Lester, N.Answerth, H.Andrews, D.Wilmot, J.Fletcher, H.McCluggage, J.Berry, C.Cameron, E.Hipwood, Z.Bailey, C.Rayner, S.Day, C.Ah Chee, O.McInerney, J.Dunkley, L.Neale, W.Ashcroft, L.Ashcroft, C.McKenna, D.Gardiner & W.McLachlan
