AFL 2025 Round 7 – Betting tips & Predictions

AFL 2025 Round 7
Round 7 action kicks off on Thursday and boy were there some interesting results last round. There were a lot of close games and the Magpies along with the Lions sit at the top of the ladder, on 20 points. On the other end of the spectrum, we see the Eagles, who are still yet to get on the board with a win after six games. What does Round 7 hold for us AFL fans? We will have to wait and see.
So, without further ado, let’s get stuck into some 2025 AFL predictions for Round 7 action!

Melbourne Demons vs Richmond Tigers
Two teams that sit near each other on the ladder will do battle to open up Round 7. The Demons face off against the Tigers, with the Demons coming into the clash as the favourites. There has been a lot of drama for the Tigers with the Noah Balta situation and with his curfew, it doesn’t make consistency any easier. Both teams are coming off a win last round, so they will be coming into this game with some confidence.
The Demons beat the Dockers last time out, 107-97 and the Tigers got a surprising victory over the Suns, 80-69. There looks to be more potential in the Demons team compared to the Tigers, so I have to agree with the bookies who have the Demons as the favourites. The Demons have also got the better of the Tigers in their last three clashes. It’s difficult to see that trend coming to an end here.
Predicted Squads
Melbourne Demons: J.Bowey, H.Petty, T.McDonald, X.Lindsay, B.Howes, C.Salem, C.Windsor, J.Viney, E.Langdon, K.Tholstrup, T.Fullarton, K.Pickett, K.Chandler, S.May, C.Spargo, M.Gawn, C.Petracca, H.Langford, C.Oliver, J.Melksham, T.Rivers, T.Sparrow & H.Sharp
Richmond Tigers: B.Miller, J.Blight, N.Vlastuin, S.Banks, J.Short, N.Broad, J.Trezise, T.Dow, H.Ralphsmith, S.Campbell, S.Lalor, S.Green, R.Mansell, T.Lynch, J.Faull, T.Nankervis, T.Taranto, J.Hopper, T.Brown, K.McIntosh, J.Ross, S.Ryan & L.Trainor
Collingwood Magpies vs Essendon Bombers
It’s ANZAC Day footy and we, of course, see the Magpies go up against the Bombers. The Magpies are sitting pretty at the top of the ladder, while the Bombers are down in 11th position. After losing their first game to the Giants by 52 points, the Magpies have managed to pile on five straight wins, including last time out when they got the better of the Lions up in Brisbane.
The Bombers look like a team on the up as well, stringing together three straight wins against the likes of the Power, Demons and Eagles. This will obviously be their biggest test and I’m not sure they will be able to get the job done. The Magpies have the best defence in the league as well, so points will be difficult for the Bombers. While the Bombers probably won’t win, this game has the potential to be a close one.
Predicted Squads
Collingwood Magpies: B.Maynard, B.Frampton, J.Howe, J.Daicos, D.Moore, H.Perryman, J.Crisp, S.Sidebottom, P.Lipinski, B.Hill, B.Mihocek, W.Hoskin-Elliott, B.McCreery, D.McStay, J.Elliott, D.Cameron, N.Long, N.Daicos, J.De Goey, I.Quaynor, S.Pendlebury, D.Houston & E.Allan
Essendon Bombers: A.McGrath, B.McKay, J.Ridley, M.Redman, Z.Reid, J.Prior, X.Duursma, D.Shiel, A.Roberts, K.Langford, N.Caddy, N.Martin, H.Jones, P.Wright, I.Kako, T.Goldstein, Z.Merrett, S.Durham, B.Hobbs, W.Setterfield, A.Perkins, J.Menzie & S.El-Hawli
Fremantle Dockers vs Adelaide Crows
The Dockers host the Crows in the second ANZAC Day clash in Round 7. Both teams have managed to go 3-2 in their last five games but it is the Crows who come into this game with a win in their last round after getting the better of the Giants in a low-scoring clash, 52-34. The weather certainly played its part in that game and it seems as though the Crows are building some momentum.
The Dockers lost by 10 points to the Demons in their Round 6 game. It was a fairly close game last time out for the Dockers, but they always seemed to be on the back foot despite being expected to win against the Demons, who hadn’t chalked up their first victory in 2025 yet. The Dockers will need a bounce-back performance here, but I’m not convinced they are up to the task.
Predicted Squads
Fremantle Dockers: L.Ryan, A.Pearce, B.Cox, J.Draper, K.Worner, J.Clark, J.Sharp, H.Young, L.Reidy, M.Frederick, S.Switkowski, S.Bolton, M.Reid, J.Treacy, J.Amiss, S.Darcy, C.Serong, A.Brayshaw, O.McDonald, B.Banfield, M.Johnson, H.Chapman & I.Dudley
Adelaide Crows: J.Worrell, N.Murray, R.Laird, W.Milera, M.Keane, M.Michalanney, I.Cumming, J.Dawson, D.Curtin, B.Keays, R.Thilthorpe, I.Rankine, D.Fogarty, T.Walker, A.Neal-Bullen, R.O’Brien, J.Soligo, M.Crouch, Z.Taylor, M.Hinge, L.Nankervis, S.Draper & S.Berry
St Kilda Saints vs Brisbane Lions
The Lions, who currently sit in second place on the ladder, will travel down to Melbourne for their game against the Saints on Saturday. After stringing together a three-game winning streak, the Saints have then gone on to lose back-to-back games against the Giants and then the Bulldogs last time out. The Saints got out of the blocks quickly against the Bulldogs, but after the first quarter, the Bulldogs’ lead just kept getting bigger.
I don’t know if the Lions even showed up in their last clash against the Magpies. After winning five games in a row, they suffered their first loss of the 2025 season and it was a big one, going down 53-105. The Lions were never able to take the lead in that game but managed to keep things close until the second half when it seemed as though everything fell apart at the seams.
Predicted Squads
St Kilda Saints: R.Byrnes, C.Wilkie, J.Webster, A.Schoenmaker, N.Wanganeen-Milera, M.Windhager, B.Hill, J.Sinclair, M.Wood, M.Hall, D.Wilson, M.Owens, C.Sharman, A.Caminiti, J.Higgins, R.Marshall, J.Macrae, J.Steele, L.Collard, L.Stocker, L.Henry, H.Garcia & Z.Jones
Brisbane Lions: D.Zorko, J.Payne, R.Lester, N.Answerth, H.Andrews, D.Wilmot, J.Fletcher, Z.Bailey, J.Berry, C.Cameron, E.Hipwood, H.McCluggage, C.Rayner, S.Day, C.Ah Chee, O.McInerney, J.Dunkley, L.Neale, W.Ashcroft, L.Ashcroft, L.Morris, J.Tunstill & S.Marshall
Port Adelaide Power vs North Melbourne Kangaroos
Adelaide Oval will see the Power and Kangaroos do battle on Saturday afternoon. The Power will be looking to put on another great performance in front of their home crowd after winning their last two clashes. They beat the Hawks 121-91 and then last time out they proved too good for the Swans, 85-77. I think this should be an easy win for the Power and it could very well be a blowout as well.
The Kangaroos are still searching for answers and have suffered their fourth loss in a row. In their last game against the Blues, they let in 153 points. So far, they have only scored over 100 points in one clash, which was the only game they managed to win. With the Kangaroos likely to score a limited amount of points, under the total points looks like a decent bet.
| Bookmaker | Katherine’s Tip | Odds |
| Total points - Under 182.5 | $1.86 | |
| Total points - Under 184.5 | $1.89 | |
| Total points - Under 183.5 | $1.90 |
Predicted Squads
Port Adelaide Power: J.Sinn, A.Aliir, M.Bergman, La.Jones, E.Ratugolea, K.Farrell, C.Moraes, C.Rozee, J.Burgoyne, J.Mead, M.Georgiades, W.Rioli, S.Powell-Pepper, O.Lord, T.Cochrane, J.Sweet, J.Horne-Francis, Z.Butters, W.Drew, O.Wines, T.Boak, D.Byrne-Jones & R.Atkins
North Melbourne Kangaroos: C.Comben, A.Corr, G.Logue, L.McDonald, C.Daniel, D.Tucker, F.O’Sullivan, T.Powell, C.McKercher, P.Curtis, N.Larkey, H.Sheezel, C.Zurhaar, J.Darling, J.Konstanty, T.Xerri, L.Davies-Uniacke, J.Simpkin, G.Wardlaw, D.Stephens, W.Phillips, L.Parker & Z.Duursma
GWS Giants vs Western Bulldogs
Two teams in the top eight will face up against each other, with the Giants sitting in fourth and the Bulldogs in eighth spot. The Giants were clearly lacking offence in their last clash, going down to the Crows, 34-52, but the weather also did play its part. That loss last time out put an end to a two-game winning streak. When it comes to a team like the Giants, I don’t expect they’ll play so poorly two games in a row.
The Bulldogs have lost Sam Darcy, who is expected to miss the rest of the season and is a massive blow. The Giants look primed to take advantage of the loss of Darcy as well. Last time out the Bulldogs were able to put a two-game losing streak to bed and they claimed a 127-56 win over the Saints. The Giants should put in a statement performance to show they are a serious contender in 2025.
Predicted Squads
GWS Giants: C.Idun, S.Taylor, H.Himmelberg, L.Whitfield, J.Buckley, L.Ash, H.Thomas, F.Callaghan, C.Ward, D.Jones, J.Stringer, T.Bedford, T.Greene, J.Hogan, A.Cadman, K.Briggs, J.Kelly, T.Green, J.Wehr, C.Stone, C.Brown, T.McMullin & X.O’Halloran

Western Bulldogs: B.Khamis, L.Jones, L.Bramble, J.Johannisen, R.Lobb, B.Dale, B.Williams, E.Richards, J.Freijah, J.Busslinger, A.Naughton, T.Liberatore, J.O’Donnell, J.O’Donnell, R.West, T.English, M.Bontempelli, M.Kennedy, L.Cleary, S.Davidson, J.Dolan, R.Sanders & C.Hynes
Gold Coast Suns vs Sydney Swans
The Suns play host to the Swans on Sunday afternoon and both teams are coming off losses in their previous match. Last time out, the Suns were handed a surprising loss courtesy of the Tigers, 69-80. For the Swans, it was a loss to the Power, 77-85, which has extended their losing streak to two games now. The Suns currently sit third on the ladder while the Swans are down in 14th.
I think the Sun will certainly appreciate being back at home and the Swans look to be in a tricky position. A loss here and the alarm bells will be well and truly ringing. The Swans have won their last three games against the Suns, but these look like different teams. Surely the Swans are good enough to at least keep this one close, especially if we get a similar Suns performance as in Round 6.
Predicted Squads
Gold Coast Suns: W.Powell, S.Collins, B.Uwland, J.Noble, M.Andrew, D.Rioli, L.Weller, M.Rowell, T.Miller, S.Flanders, J.Walter, B.Long, E.Read, B.King, B.Humphrey, J.Witts, W.Graham, N.Anderson, N.Holman, B.Ainsworth, C.Budarick, J.Jeffrey & J.Rogers
Sydney Swans: J.Hamling, L.Melican, D.Rampe, M.Roberts, N.Blakey, S.Wicks, J.Lloyd, I.Heeney, J.McInerney, Co.Warner, H.McLean, J.Jordon, W.Hayward, T.McCartin, B.Campbell, B.Grundy, Ch.Warner, J.Rowbottom, R.Bice, C.Cleary, O.Florent, T.Hanily & A.Francis
Carlton Blues vs Geelong Cats
The Blues and Cats will take the field at the MCG on Sunday afternoon and the Blues have finally managed to string together back-to-back wins, but they were against poor teams like the Eagles and Kangaroos. A win is still a win though and it will certainly give them some confidence coming into this difficult clash with the Cats. Harry McKay also is potentially coming back into the fold for the Blues.
The Cats look to be flying at the moment and have put together three wins against the Demons, Crows and Hawks. Gryan Miers will likely miss this clash though after suffering a concussion in his last game. The Cats have won three of the last five games against the Blues and I think they’ll make it four of the last six come the end of this game. It could be a close game though as the Blues can stick with the best of them.
Predicted Squads
Carlton Blues: J.Silvagni, J.Weitering, N.Haynes, A.Saad, M.McGovern, O.Hollands, B.Acres, P.Cripps, M.Carroll, E.Hollands, H.McKay, L.Fogarty, J.Motlop, C.Curnow, Z.Williams, T.De Koning, G.Hewett, A.Cerra, M.Cottrell, S.Walsh, C.Durdin, W.White & C.Lord
Geelong Cats: C.O’Sullivan, S.De Koning, M.O’Connor, L.Humphries, T.Stewart, Z.Guthrie, B.Smith, P.Dangerfield, M.Blicavs, B.Close, O.Henry, S.Mannagh, S.Neale, J.Cameron, O.Mullin, R.Stanley, M.Holmes, T.Atkins, O.Dempsey, T.Stengle, J.Bowes, M.Knevitt & T.Clohesy
Hawthorn Hawks vs West Coast Eagles
In the last game of Round 7, we see the Hawks up against the Eagles, who are still yet to get on the board with a win. If the Eagles are to chalk up their first win of the 2025 season, they will have to do it the hard way as they travel to Melbourne for this game. The Hawks aren’t exactly lighting the world on fire in their last couple of games either and come into this one on a two-game losing streak.
Last time out, they went down to the Cats, 76-86. It was a close game last time out for the Eagles, but they still couldn’t get their first win and they fell to the Bombers, 75-77. While the Hawks have lost their last two, it is difficult to see them losing this one, even with Connor Nash on the sidelines as a result of a suspension. The bookies have set a massive line for the Hawks to cover, but I think they’ll do it.
Predicted Squads
Hawthorn Hawks: T.Barrass, B.Hardwick, J.Sicily, J.Battle, J.Impey, J.Wedddle, K.Amon, C.Mackenzie, M.D’Ambrosio, H.Morrison, N.Watson, C.Macdonald, J.Gunston, M.Chol, D.Moore, L.Meek, J.Newcombe, J.Worpel, J.Scrimshaw, J.Ginnivan, J.Ward, L.Breust & C.Jiath
West Coast Eagles: R.Ginbey, H.Edwards, B.Hough, L.Duggan, J.McGovern, L.Baker, J.Hutchinson, J.Graham, J.Hunt, L.Ryan, J.Waterman, J.Cripps, J.Williams, O.Allen, M.Owies, M.Flynn, T.Kelly, H.Reid, E.Hewett, R.Maric, H.Davis, T.Dewar & T.Gros
