After Gather Round, we are in for another cracker with some key clashes in Round 6. Things kick off on Thursday and we have a full round of nine games to feast on. The Blues finally managed to get a win on the board last round, so this means we are just waiting for the Demons and the Eagles to get their season going. Meanwhile, the Lions and the Suns remain undefeated with five and four wins so far, respectively.
So, without further ado, let’s get stuck into some 2025 AFL predictions for Round 6 action!

Brisbane Lions vs Collingwood Magpies
The Lions are one of two undefeated teams remaining in the AFL this season, with five wins under their belts. A massive come-from-behind win against the Bulldogs last time out almost had to be seen to be believed and they ended up winning that one by 21 points. So far, the Lions have defeated the Swans, Eagles, Cats, Tigers and Bulldogs. Will the Magpies be their next victims?
The Magpies will certainly be the toughest opponents to the Lions so far this season and the Collingwood team come into this clash on a four-match winning streak. So, this sets up to be a blockbuster to kick us off in Round 6. Last time out, the Magpies took down the Swans and it looks like they’ll be getting Jordan De Goey back. Collingwood has won the last three clashes against the Lions, but in Brisbane, I’m going with the home team.
Predicted Squads
Brisbane Lions: D.Zorko, J.Payne, R.Lester, N.Answerth, H.Andrews, D.Wilmot, J.Fletcher, Z.Bailey, J.Berry, C.Cameron, E.Hipwood, H.McCluggage, C.Rayner, S.Day, L.Morris, O.McInerney, J.Dunkley, L.Neale, C.Ah Chee, W.Ashcroft, L.Ashcroft, B.Reville & W.McLachlan
Collingwood Magpies: B.Maynard, B.Frampton, J.Howe, J.Daicos, D.Moore, H.Perryman, P.Lipinski, S.Sidebottom, J.Crisp, B.Hill, B.Mihocek, L.Sullivan, B.McCreery, D.McStay, T.Membrey, D.Cameron, N.Long, N.Daicos, I.Quaynor, J.Elliott, S.Pendlebury, W.Hoskin-Elliott & J.De Goey
North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Carlton Blues
Should be a scrappy battle as we see 15th versus 14th on the ladder play each other on Good Friday at Marvel Stadium. The Kangaroos have only won once this season when they put 125 points to the Demons’ 66 in Round 2. Since then, it’s pretty much been blowout after blowout, including a 65-point loss to the Swans and a 52-point loss to the Suns in their last two games.
The Blues finally got a win on the board against the Eagles, who remain winless coming into Round 6. Will this win spark a rise in the Blues players? I think they couldn’t come across a better team to notch up their second win than the Kangaroos. It was a 71-point victory to the Blues last time out, but it did come at a cost with Harry McKay set to miss at least a week. The Blues should still be able to get the job done though.
Predicted Squads
North Melbourne: Kangaroos - C.Comben, A.Corr, G.Logue, L.McDonald, C.Daniel, D.Tucker, F.O’Sullivan, T.Powell, G.Wardlaw, P.Curtis, N.Larkey, H.Sheezel, C.Zurhaar, J.Darling, J.Konstanty, T.Xerri, L.Davies-Uniacke, J.Simpkin, Z.Duursma, D.Stephens, Z.Fisher, L.Parker & E.Ford
Carlton Blues: J.Silvagni, J.Weitering, N.Haynes, A.Saad, M.McGovern, Z.Williams, M.Carroll, P.Cripps, A.Cerra, L.Fogarty, M.Pittonet, S.Docherty, M.Cottrell, C.Curnow, J.Motlop, T.De Koning, G.Hewett, S.Walsh, O.Hollands, L.Young, C.Durdin, W.White & B.Acres
West Coast Eagles vs Essendon Bombers
After losing to the Blues last time out, is there any hope for the Eagles? Well, it is only Round 6, but you would have to say they need some wins and they need them fast. The Eagles are back at home for this one, but if you look at the way they have been losing this season, it doesn’t paint a pretty picture. The closest game so far this season was against the Lions, where they lost by 19 points.
The Bombers aren’t exactly lighting the 2025 AFL season on fire either, but they are certainly better than the Eagles. They had a bye in Round 4 and currently sit with a record of 2-2. Last time out, they were able to get the win over the winless Demons, 96-57. Jeremy McGovern might be returning for the Eagles, but that won’t be enough. Expect the Eagles to suffer another blowout loss.
Predicted Squads
West Coast Eagles: B.Hough, H.Edwards, R.Ginbey, J.Hunt, S.Brock, R.Maric, J.McGovern, T.Dewar, L.Duggan, J.Graham, J.Cripps, J.Waterman, M.Owies, A.Reid, O.Allen, L.Ryan, B.Williams, L.Baker, H.Reid, T.Gross, C.Hall, E.Hewett, J.Hutchinson & H.Davis
Essendon Bombers: A.McGrath, B.McKay, J.Ridley, M.Redman, Z.Reid, J.Prior, X.Duursma, A.Perkins, A.Roberts, J.Gresham, N.Caddy, N.Martin, H.Jones, S.Draper, I.Kako, T.Goldstein, Z.Merrett, S.Durham, B.Hobbs, D.Shiel, W.Setterfield, J.Menzie & S.El-Hawli
Melbourne Demons vs Fremantle Dockers
The Demons remain one of just two teams that are yet to get on the board with a win this season and they sit in 17th place on the ladder. Their first game of the season against the Giants was close, losing by three points. However, since then it has been blowout loss after blowout loss, including losses of 59, 58, 39 and 39 points in their last four matches, respectively.
The Dockers travel to Melbourne for this clash and they look to finally be hitting their groove after stringing together three straight wins against the Eagles, Bulldogs and Tigers. Those teams aren’t exactly at the pointy end of the ladder, but they are up against the Demons this time out, who, as we already know, are in 17th. Fremantle have dominated the last two meetings against the Demons, scoring over 100 points each time.
Predicted Squads
Melbourne Demons: J.Bowey, S.May, H.Petty, T.Rivers, T.McDonald, C.Salem, K.Chandler, J.Viney, E.Langdon, M.Jefferson, B.Fritsch, K.Pickett, J.Melksham, J.van Rooyen, C.Spargo, M.Gawn, C.Petracca, H.Langford, C.Windsor, C.Oliver, X.Lindsay, T.Sparrow & H.Sharp
Fremantle Dockers: J.Draper, A.Pearce, B.Cox, H.Chapman, L.Ryan, J.Clark, M.Reid, H.Young, J.O’Meara, M.Frederick, S.Switkowski, S.Bolton, J.Treacy, J.Amiss, S.Darcy, C.Serong, A.Brayshaw, M.Johnson, J.Sharp, B.Banfield, K.Worner & I.Dudley
Adelaide Crows vs GWS Giants
The Crows host the Giants on Saturday afternoon and they will be looking to stop their side as they have lost two games in a row now. They shouldn’t have lost to the Suns two games ago and then last time out, they went down to the Cats, 100-119. They had that game against the Cats seemingly under control but let it slip in the closing stages, which was quite disappointing, especially for their home fans.
The Giants are sitting in third spot on the ladder after their 110-82 victory against the Saints last time out. I don’t think there will be many changes to this side and they have a 2025 season record of 4-1. The Giants have won four of the last five clashes with the Crows, but it is the Crows that won the latest meeting between the two. The Crows are the favourites, which I think is a little surprising, despite the fact they are playing at home.
Predicted Squads
Adelaide Crows: M.Hinge, J.Worrell, R.Laird, W.Milera, M.Keane, M.Michalanney, I.Cumming, J.Dawson, L.Sholl, B.Keays, R.Thilthorpe, I.Rankine, D.Fogarty, T.Walker, A.Neal-Bullen, R.O’Brien, J.Soligo, J.Peatling, D.Curtin, S.Draper, M.Crouch, L.Nankervis & Z.Taylor
GWS Giants: C.Idun, S.Taylor, H.Himmelberg, L.Whitfield, J.Buckley, L.Ash, J.Wehr, F.Callaghan, C.Ward, D.Jones, J.Stringer, T.Bedford, T.Greene, J.Hogan, A.Cadman, K.Briggs, J.Kelly, T.Green, C.Stone, C.Brown, J.Riccardi, H.Thomas & T.McMullin
Richmond Tigers vs Gold Coast Suns
The Tigers face a tough battle on Saturday night when they take on the undefeated Suns at Marvel Stadium. At the moment, the Tigers are sitting down in 16th spot on the ladder, meanwhile, the Suns are second. After winning their first clash, the Tigers have gone on to lose their next four and they have been fairly big losses as well. With the way the Suns have been playing, it could be another losing game for the Tigers.
The Suns have scored 100 points or more in three of their last four games and the Tigers have let in 100 points or more in all but one of their games so far this season. Those stats point to a high-scoring game for the Suns, who look to remain unchanged going into this clash. The Suns should run wild here in Melbourne.
Predicted Squads
Richmond Tigers: N.Vlastuin, B.Miller, N.Broad, J.Short, L.Trainor, T.Brown, S.Banks, K.McIntosh, T.Sonsie, J.Ross, S.Campbell, S.Green, M.Rioli, T.Lynch, J.Faull, T.Nankervis, T.Taranto, J.Hopper, J.Blight, H.Ralphsmith, J.Trezise, T.Dow & J.Bauer
Gold Coast Suns: W.Powell, S.Collins, B.Uwland, J.Noble, M.Andrew, D.Rioli, L.Weller, M.Rowell, S.Clohesy, B.Ainsworth, T.Miller, S.Flanders, B.King, B.Humphrey, E.Read, J.Witts, W.Graham, N.Anderson, J.Walter, B.Long, J.Rogers, J.Sudar-Jeffrey & N.Holman
Sydney Swans vs Port Adelaide Power
Two teams sitting close to each other on the ladder will do battle on Sunday afternoon when the Swans (10th) take on the Power (11th). The Swans will be back at home after suffering a loss at the hands of the Magpies last time out 78-109. Joel Amartey (hamstring) looks set for a few weeks on the sideline, which is a fairly significant blow to the Swan’s offence.
The Power will be looking to string together two wins in a row for the first time this season after putting together a great performance against the Hawks last time out, winning 121-91. They seem to be fairly inconsistent this season, as with the Swans (who also have several injuries to key players), so it is difficult to pick a result in this one. With the Swans playing at home, I’ll give them a slight edge.
Predicted Squads
Sydney Swans: J.Hamling, D.Rampe, N.Blakey, S.Wicks, M.Roberts, O.Florent, B.Campbell, I.Heeney, J.Lloyd, H.McLean, W.Hayward, J.Jordon, A.Francis, T.McCartin, Co.Warner, B.Grundy, Ch.Warner, J.Rowbottom, R.Bice, P.Ladhams, T.Hanily, C.Cleary & A.Sheldrick
Port Adelaide Power: J.Sinn, A.Aliir, M.Bergman, La.Jones, E.Ratugolea, K.Farrell, C.Moraes, C.Rozee, J.Burgoyne, J.Mead, M.Georgiades, W.Rioli, S.Powell-Pepper, O.Lord, J.Richards, J.Sweet, J.Horne-Francis, Z.Butters, T.Cochrane, O.Wines, W.Drew, T.Boak & J.Berry
Western Bulldogs vs St Kilda Saints
Another interesting battle awaits us as the Bulldogs take on the Saints at Marvel Stadium on Sunday night. The Bulldogs will rue letting a 39-point lead slip against the 2024 Premiers last time out. In that clash, they ended up going down 97-118 and they were falling apart at the seams in the second half. That loss takes their tally to two in a row now and they will be keen to get back into the winner’s circle.
The Saints weren’t able to continue their winning streak last time out after going down to the Giants, 82-110. Before that loss, they were on a three-game winning streak which included wins against the Cats, Tigers and Power. The last time these two teams clashed, the Bulldogs almost doubled the score of the Saints, winning 124-64. It looks to be a close match, but I think the Bulldogs are better equipped to get the win.
Predicted Squads
Western Bulldogs - B.Khamis, L.Jones, L.Bramble, J.Johannisen, R.Lobb, B.Dale, B.Williams, T.Liberatore, S.Davidson, C.Hynes, A.Naughton, R.Sanders, J.O’Donnell, S.Darcy, M.Bontempelli, T.English, M.Kennedy, E.Richards, L.Cleary, J.Freijah, L.McNeil, R.West & J.Dolan
St Kilda Saints - R.Byrnes, C.Wilkie, J.Webster, T.Travaglia, N.Wanganeen-Milera, J.Sinclair, M.Wood, J.Steele, M.Windhager, B.Hill, J.Higgins, M.Owens, C.Sharman, A.Caminiti, D.Wilson, R.Marshall, J.Macrae, H.Garcia, Z.Jones, L.Collard, L.Stocker, M.Hall & A.Hastie
Geelong Cats vs Hawthorn Hawks
We see the traditional Cats and Hawks Easter Monday match and this one looks to be another cracker with the Cats sitting in sixth and the Hawks sitting in fifth on the ladder. I don’t think there will be many changes to the Cat's side after they beat the Crows last time out in epic come-back fashion, 119-100. That win extends their winning streak to two after they also beat the Demons, 85-46.
The Hawks suffered their first loss of the 2025 season last time out, going down to the Power, 91-121. It looks to be another tough game against the Cats, who will probably still be riding high from their win last time out. The Cats have won the last three clashes with the Hawks as well. I think the Cats will prove too good for the Hawks this time and hand the Hawks their second loss of the season.
Predicted Squads
Geelong Cats - C.O’Sullivan, S.De Koning, M.Blicavs, L.Humphries, M.O’Connor, Z.Guthrie, B.Smith, P.Dangerfield, O.Dempsey, B.Close, S.Mannagh, G.Miers, S.Neale, J.Cameron, T.Stengle, R.Stanley, M.Holmes, T.Atkins, M.Knevitt, O.Henry, J.Bowes, O.Mullin & T.Clohesy
Hawthorn Hawks - T.Barrass, B.Hardwick, J.Sicily, J.Battle, J.Impey, J.Weddle, K.Amon, H.Hustwaite, C.Jiath, H.Morrison, N.Watson, J.Ginnivan, F.Maginness, M.Chol, D.Moore, L.Meek, J.Newcombe, J.Ward, C.Mackenzie, J.Gunston, J.Worpel, M.D’Ambrosio & L.Breust
