Get ready to witness some epic AFL action as Round 4 kicks off on Thursday, with eight games in total for this round. As always, there were some interesting results last round and there are still three teams that are yet to get off the big goose egg, the Blues, Demons and Eagles. It may be early in the season, but these matches feel very important for some teams.
So, without further ado, let’s get stuck into some 2025 AFL predictions for Round 4 action!

Collingwood Magpies vs Carlton Blues
I’m sure the winless Blues didn’t want to see the Magpies as their next opponents, but here we are. It was a heartbreaker for the Blues last time out against the Bulldogs after they let the lead slip after being in the box seat for the majority of the game. They ended up going down by eight points and remain one of just three teams yet to chalk up a win. Another loss here could spell disaster.
The Magpies will come into this clash well-rested after their bye last round. Before their bye, they beat the Bulldogs by six points. Based on form, it’s difficult to go against the Magpies and they aren’t as heavy favourites as I originally thought. So, there is still a little bit of value if you want to play it safe and go for the outright win in the Magpies, which is what I’ll be doing.
Predicted Squads
Collingwood Magpies: D.Houston, B.Frampton, J.Howe, J.Daicos, D.Moore, I.Quaynor, J.Crisp, H.Perryman, S.Sidebottom, B.Hill, D.McStay, B.McCreery, J.De Goey, T.Membrey, J.Elliott, D.Cameron, S.Pendlebury, N.Daicos, P.Lipinski, B.Maynard, L.Schultz, B.Mihocek & N.Long
Carlton Blues: L.Young, J.Weitering, L.Cowan, A.Saad, M.McGovern, O.Hollands, B.Acres, P.Cripps, M.Cottrell, J.Motlop, J.Silvagni, L.Fogarty, B.Kemp, C.Curnow, S.Docherty, T.De Koning, A.Cerra, G.Hewett, N.Haynes, S.Walsh, H.McKay, F.Evans & J.Boyd
Geelong Cats vs Melbourne Demons
Just like the Blues, the Demons need a win and they need it badly. It’s going to be a difficult clash though, as they go up against the Cats at home. The Cats will be looking to get back in the winner’s circle in this match after going down to the Lions in Brisbane last time out. The Demons suffered a massive loss at the hands of the Suns, losing by a whopping 58 points.
Can the Demons’ players turn their performances around? Maybe. But I don’t think it will happen in this clash. Winning hasn’t exactly come easily for the Cats either, but they certainly look the most likely to take the win here. Jeremy Cameron hasn’t been at a level we would expect for him, so if he plays just a little better, the Cats can get a convincing win here.
Predicted Squads
Geelong Cats: C.O’Sullivan, J.Henry, O.Mullin, Z.Guthrie, S.De Koning, J.Bowes, B.Smith, M.Holmes, O.Dempsey, B.Close, G.Miers, T.Stengle, S.Neale, J.Cameron, O.Henry, M.Blicavs, T.Atkins, P.Dangerfield, L.Humphries, J.Clark, T.Clohesy, M.O’Connor & M.Knevitt
Melbourne Demons: B.Howes, S.May, C.Salem, T.Rivers, H.Petty, J.Bowey, E.Langdon, C.Oliver, X.Lindsay, J.Henderson, A.Johnson, H.Sharp, B.Fritsch, J.van Rooyen, T.Sparrow, M.Gawn, C.Petracca, J.Viney, J.Billings, H.Langford, T.McDonald, K.Chandler & J.Melksham
Gold Coast Suns vs Adelaide Crows
The Suns are flying high after a 58 point thumping of the Demons last time out in Melbourne. They are back on the Gold Coast for this clash where they hold slight favouritism. The Crows clocked up a nice win of their own last round, beating the Kangaroos by 36 points. The Suns look really good and remain unbeaten, however, some are questioning the quality of their opponents to date.
The Crows are also unbeaten, so whose unbeaten record will come to an end after this clash? I think the home ground will come into play here, so I’m sticking with the favourites here. There will be a lot of talented attack on display here, so I think the overs look pretty decent as well if you’re looking for something a little different. No matter what, it’s going to be a great match!
Predicted Squads
Gold Coast Suns: M.Andrew, W.Powell, S.Collins, J.Noble, B.Uwland, D.Rioli, L.Weller, M.Rowell, S.Clohesy, W.Graham, J.Walter, T.Miller, B.King, S.Flanders, E.Read, J.Witts, B.Humphrey, N.Anderson, C.Budarick, N.Holman, B.Long, J.Jeffrey & J.Rogers
Adelaide Crows: J.Worrell, J.Borlase, R.Laird, W.Milera, M.Keane, M.Michalanney, I.Cumming, J.Dawson, L.Sholl, B.Keays, R.Thilthorpe, I.Rankine, D.Fogarty, T.Walker, A.Neal-Bullen, R.O’Brien, J.Soligo, J.Peatling, L.Murphy, M.Crouch, M.Hinge, D.Curtin & S.Draper
Richmond Tigers vs Brisbane Lions
The Lions are back where they belong, in the top four, after a nine-point win against the Cats at the Gabba last round. They travel down to Melbourne for this clash against the Tigers, but that shouldn’t be of any concern for them. The Tigers don’t seem to have it and they took a massive beating by the Saints last time out, losing by 82 after fading spectacularly in the second half.
The depth the Lions possess is enough to keep all other teams up at night and I think Charlie Cameron just might put on a show at the MCG on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers have virtually no chance according to the bookies (but we’ve seen what the Tigers can do as the massive underdogs before). There is more value in looking past the head-to-head markets.
Bookmaker | Katherine’s Tip | Odds |

Predicted Squads
Richmond Tigers: J.Blight, B.Miller, N.Broad, J.Short, N.Vlastuin, T.Brown, T.Dow, K.McIntosh, J.Trezise, M.Rioli, S.Campbell, S.Green, J.Bauer, T.Lynch, S.Lalor, T.Nankervis, T.Taranto, J.Hopper, L.Trainor, T.Sonsie, J.Ross, H.Armstrong & K.Smith
Brisbane Lions: D.Zorko, J.Payne, R.Lester, N.Answerth, H.Andrews, D.Wilmot, J.Fletcher, Z.Bailey, J.Berry, C.Cameron, E.Hipwood, H.McCluggage, C.Rayner, S.Day, L.Morris, O.McInerney, J.Dunkley, L.Neale, W.McLachlan, C.Ah Chee, W.Ashcroft, L.Ashcroft & B.Reville
North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Sydney Swans
Both teams are next to each other on the ladder, with the Kangaroos in 10th and the Swans in 11th. It’s certainly not the start Swans fans were expecting, but they come into this one fresh off a bye. Will fresh legs make the difference? The Swans finally go into the win column for the 2025 season in Round 2, beating the Dockers in Perth by three points. That was a hard-fought win and boy did they need it.
Turning our attention to the Kangaroos now. It’s a similar story, they are 1-2, with their only win coming against the Demons (and we all know how poorly they are doing this year so far). I think the Kangaroos are just too inconsistent for my liking and two of the last three clashes between the team have resulted in a comfortable Swans win. Take the Swans to cover the line.
Predicted Squads
North Melbourne Kangaroos: C.Comben, A.Corr, L.McDonald, B.Scott, C.Daniel, C.McKercher, F.O’Sullivan, L.Davies-Uniacke, J.Simpkin, H.Sheezel, N.Larkey, R.Hansen Jr, P.Curtis, J.Darling, C.Zurhaar, T.Xerri, T.Powell, L.Parker, D.Tucker, W.Phillips, G.Logue, J.Konstanty & D.Stephens
Sydney Swans: N.Blakey, D.Rampe, J.Hamling, S.Wicks, M.Roberts, R.Bice, J.Lloyd, I.Heeney, O.Florent, L.McDonald, W.Hayward, B.Campbell, J.Amartey, T.McCartin, T.Papley, B.Grundy, Ch.Warner, J.Rowbottom, J.Jordon, P.Ladhams, Co.Warner, H.McLean & A.Sheldrick
GWS Giants vs West Coast Eagles
The fifth-placed Giants play the bottom of the ladder Eagles. In Sydney. That’s enough to put a grimace on any Eagles fan’s face. The Giants were 2-0 coming into their Round 3 clash, but the top-of-the-table Hawks handed them their first loss of the season, by 12 points. The Giants were leading fairly comfortably throughout that clash but let the lead slip at halftime and weren’t able to get it back.
The Eagles lost to the Suns in Round 1 by 87 points, the Lions in Round 2 by 19 points and the Dockers in Round 3 by 38 points. That is not nice reading and the Giants are a team that is more than capable of taking advantage of that. All signs point to a blowout. Hold onto your hats people, the Giants will put on a high-scoring game here and please their home crowd.
Predicted Squads
GWS Giants: C.Idun, S.Taylor, H.Himmelberg, L.Whitfield, J.Buckley, L.Ash, F.Callaghan, J.Kelly, S.Coniglio, T.Greene, J.Stringer, B.Daniels, D.Jones, J.Hogan, A.Cadman, K.Briggs, T.Bedford, T.Green, X.O’Halloran, L.Keeffe, C.Stone, C.Ward & J.Wehr
West Coast Eagles: B.Hough, H.Edwards, R.Ginbey, L.Baker, J.Waterman, T.Cole, J.Graham, T.Kelly, J.Hunt, T.Brockman, A.Reid, L.Ryan, M.Owies, O.Allen, J.Cripps, M.Flynn, H.Reid, L.Duggan, N.Long, R.Maric, J.Williams, T.Dewar & E.Hewett
Port Adelaide Power vs St Kilda Saints
The Power were attacked by the Magpies in Round 1, but bounced back well in Round 2, winning against the Tigers. They were back to their losing ways last time out though, going down to the Bombers by 12 points. They do need a win here and the one win they have notched up this season was at home, so that does work in their favour. The Power also seems to have a hold over the Saints as well, winning the last five clashes between the two teams.
The Saints have been playing well, with a 2-1 record coming into this clash and most notably, they got a seven point win over the Cats in Round 2. If the Saints fans want an indication of just how well they are playing, this game against the Power in Adelaide will shed some light. I think the Power will be too strong though and there’s still enough value for me to take them in the head-to-head market.
Predicted Squads
Port Adelaide Power: J.Sinn, A.Aliir, M.Bergman, O.Lord, E.Ratugolea, K.Farrell, T.Boak, C.Rozee, J.Burgoyne, J.Mead, M.Georgiades, W.Rioli, D.Byrne-Jones, S.Powell-Pepper, J.Richards, J.Sweet, J.Horne-Francis, W.Drew, J.Berry, O.Wines, I.Soldo, C.Moraes & T.Cochrane
St Kilda Saints: I.Keeler, C.Wilkie, J.Webster, R.Byrnes, N.Wanganeen-Milera, Z.Jones, D.Wilson, J.Sinclair, M.Windhager, J.Higgins, B.Hill, M.Owens, C.Sharman, A.Caminiti, M.Wood, R.Marshall, H.Garcia, J.Macrae, L.Collard, M.Hall, L.O’Connell, J.Steele & A.Hastie
Fremantle Dockers vs Western Bulldogs
The last match of Round 4 sees the Dockers hosting the Bulldogs. It is a notoriously difficult trip from Melbourne to Perth, so we will all be interested to see how the Bulldogs fare in this one. The Dockers come into this one 1-2 after they finally got a win on the board over the bottom-of-the-table Eagles by 38 points last time out. They have only played one game at home so far and that’s when they went down to the Swans by just three points.
The Bulldogs’ second half against the Blues last time out was solid as they just managed to get the win by eight points. Most of their matches so far this season have been pretty close, so we could be in for more of the same here. The Bulldogs have won three of their last four clashes with the Dockers and with the Dockers the current favourites, I’ll be taking the Bulldogs on the line.
Predicted Squads
Fremantle Dockers: J.Draper, A.Pearce, B.Cox, H.Chapman, L.Ryan, J.Clark, N.O’Driscoll, P.Voss, J.Sharp, N.Erasmus, M.Frederick, S.Bolton, M.Reid, J.Treacy, J.Amiss, L.Jackson, C.Serong, A.Brayshaw, M.Johnson, I.Dudley, B.Banfield, N.Fyfe & J.O’Meara
Western Bulldogs: B.Khamis, L.Jones, H.Gallagher, L.Bramble, R.Lobb, B.Dale, B.Williams, T.Liberatore, S.Davidson, L.McNeil, A.Naughton, M.Kennedy, L.Vandermeer, S.Darcy, J.Harmes, T.English, J.Freijah, E.Richards, O.Baker, J.O’Donnell, R.Sanders, R.West & J.Dolan
