Essendon Bombers vs Port Adelaide Power
Nothing seems to be going around for the Bombers and they are one of the handful of teams that is yet to chalk up a win. It may be only Round 3, but there is already desperation in the air and the Bombers need this one. They come up against another Adelaide team after going down to the Crows by 61 points last time out.
On the flip side, the Power head to Melbourne after a stonking win last time out against the Tigers, winning by 72 points. The Power did lose star Jack Lukosius in that game and he’ll be out for the rest of the season with a fractured kneecap. Other injuries to key players mean that the Bombers are not without hope.
Predicted Squads
Essendon Bombers - A.McGrath, B.McKay, J.Prior, M.Redman, Z.Reid, N.Martin, X.Duursma, J.Caldwell, A.Roberts, J.Gresham, N.Caddy, J.Ridley, J.Laverde, H.Jones, S.Draper, I.Kako, N.Bryan, S.Durham, Z.Merrett, Hobbs, D.Shiel, T.Edwards & J.Menzie
Port Adelaide Power - A.Aliir, J.Burgoyne, L.Evans, M.Bergman, K.Farrell, C.Moraes, T.Boak, C.Rozee, J.Mead, S.Powell-Pepper, M.Georgiades, W.Rioli, D.Byrne-Jones, E.Ratugolea, J.Richards, J.Sweet, J.Horne-Francis, W.Drew, J.Berry, J.Sinn, O.Wines & C.Moraes
Carlton Blues vs Western Bulldogs
The Blues were brave in defeat in their last game against the in-form Hawks. They lost Harry McKay to illness just an hour before that match and he should line up against the Bulldogs in this one. The Bulldogs also suffered a loss last time out and in the second half, they just couldn’t keep up with the Magpies.
This is an interesting contest and both teams will be looking for a bounce-back performance. I’m leaning towards the Blues in this one, especially if stars Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay can make an impact. The pair have a decent record at Marvel Stadium. Also, the Blues come into this one as the underdogs, so there is more value with them.
Predicted Squads
Carlton Blues - L.Cowan, J.Weitering, O.Hollands, A.Saad, M.McGovern, N.Haynes, B.Acres, P.Cripps, L.Camporeale, S.Docherty, J.Silvagni, B.Kemp, L.Fogarty, C.Curnow, M.Cottrell, T.De Koning, A.Cerra, G.Hewett, S.Walsh, Z.Williams, J.Motlop, H.McKay & C.Lord
Western Bulldogs - J.Freijah, B.Khamis, T.Duryea, L.Bramble, R.Lobb, B.Dale, B.Williams, T.Liberatore, S.Davidson, L.McNeil, A.Naughton, M.Kennedy, L.Vandermeer, S.Darcy, J.Harmes, T.English, R.Sanders, E.Richards, J.Dolan, H.Gallagher, A.Jones, R.West & O.Baker
Melbourne Demons vs Gold Coast Suns
The Demons have played two games and are yet to notch up a win. On the other side, the Suns have played just one game to start their season, which was a thumping victory over the Eagles. It wasn’t just a loss for the Demons last week, but a poor performance, which doesn’t bode well for the rest of their season.
While Charlie Ballard is missing for the Suns, they are expected to get Mac Andrew back after some chest issues in a pre-season match. The Suns come into this one fresh, so they don’t have a lot of excuses if they put in a poor performance. I’ll be taking the Suns to win on Saturday.
Predicted Squads
Melbourne Demons - J.Lever, T.McDonald, C.Salem, B.Howes, H.Petty, J.Bowey, E.Langdon, C.Oliver, X.Lindsay, T.Sparrow, A.Johnson, J.Henderson, B.Fritsch, J.van Rooyen, K.Chandler, M.Gawn, C.Petracca, J.Viney, C.Spargo, D.Turner, T.Rivers, H.Sharp & T.Woewodin
Gold Coast Suns - W.Powell, S.Collins, B.Uwland, J.Noble, D.Rioli, L.Weller, M.Rowell, S.Clohesy, W.Graham, T.Miller, B.Ainsworth, J.Rogers, B.King, E.Read, J.Witts, B.Humphrey, N.Anderson, M.Andrew, N.Holman, C.Graham, C.Budarick, J.Jeffrey & A.Sexton
St Kilda Saints vs Richmond Tigers
The Saints surprised more than a few last time out, getting the job done against the Cats. It wasn’t without a cost though, a concussion to Liam Stocker will mean Ross Lyon will have to make at least one change and Hunter Clark was on the bench for the entire last quarter.
Meanwhile, the Tigers came falling back to Earth in their last match when the Power ran all over them. I can’t wait to see the Saints ball movement in this one at Marvel Stadium and I think they’ll be good enough to cover the line and get another win in the books early on in the 2025 season.
Predicted Squads
St Kilda Saints - A.Caminiti, C.Wilkie, J.Webster, R.Byrnes, N.Wanganeen-Milera, J.Sinclair, M.Wood, T.Travaglia, M.Windhager, Z.Jones, M.Owens, B.Hill, J.Higgins, I.Keeler, D.Wilson, R.Marshall, J.Steele, J.Macrae, L.Collard, H.Clark, M.Hall, L.O’Connell & H.Garcia
Richmond Tigers - B.Miller, J.Blight, N.Broad, J.Short, N.Vlastuin, L.Trainor, K.McAuliffe, K.McIntosh, J.Trezise, R.Mansell, S.Campbell, S.Green, J.Bauer, H.Armstrong, S.Lalor, T.Nankervis, T.Taranto, J.Hopper, T.Brown, T.Dow, T.Lynch, J.Ross & K.Smith
Hawthorn Hawks vs GWS Giants
This one has to be the game of the round as we see two undefeated teams clash. The Hawks are 3-0 and the Giants are 2-0 after coming off a bye last round. The Giants could be looking even stronger with the likes of Kieren Briggs, Jesse Hogan and Jake Stringer all potentially making a comeback.
I think it will be all about the defense in this game, as we have seen in several of the previous matches between the two teams. The unders looks like a good bet here and the last five meetings between the Hawks and the Giants have all gone under the total points.

Predicted Squads
Hawthorn Hawks - T.Barrass, B.Hardwick, J.Sicily, C.Jiath, J.Impey, M.D’Ambrosio, K.Amon, J.Ward, J.Battle, F.Maginness, N.Watson, C.Mackenzie, J.Ginnivan, M.Chol, J.Newcombe, L.Meek, W.Day, D.Moore, J.Weddle, H.Morrison, C.Nash, L.Breust & J.Gunston
GWS Giants - C.Idun, S.Taylor, H.Himmelberg, L.Whitfield, J.Buckley, L.Ash, J.Kelly, T.Green, S.Coniglio, X.O’Halloran, T.Greene, K.Briggs, D.Jones, A.Cadman, J.Hogan, L.Keeffe, T.Bedford, F.Callaghan, C.Brown, C.Ward, J.Stringer, J.Wehr & M.Gruzewski
Brisbane Lions vs Geelong Cats
This is the rescheduled match that we were supposed to be treated to in the Opening Round of the 2025 AFL season. The Cats are coming off a surprising loss to the Saints, while the Lions remain undefeated with another win over the Eagles last time out.
Playing at home, the Lions come into this one as the favourite, even though they don’t look as good as they did last year. It sometimes seems difficult for teams to make the trip up to Brisbane, so I’ll be backing the Lions for this one. I’m not sure if they’ll cover the line, so I’m going to play it safe and take them for the win.
Predicted Squads
Brisbane Lions - D.Zorko, J.Payne, R.Lester, N.Answerth, H.Andrews, D.Wilmot, J.Fletcher, H.McCluggage, J.Berry, W.Ashcroft, E.Hipwood, Z.Bailey, C.Rayner, L.Morris, S.Day, O.McInerney, J.Dunkley, L.Neale, W.McLachlan, C.Ah Chee, L.Ashcroft, B.Reville & C.McKenna
Geelong Cats - C.O’Sullivan, J.Henry, M.Blicavs, Z.Guthrie, J.Bowes, L.Humphries, J.Clark, M.Holmes, O.Dempsey, B.Close, G.Miers, T.Stengle, S.Neale, J.Cameron, P.Dangerfield, S.De Koning, T.Atkins, T.Stewart, O.Mullin, M.O’Connor, O.Henry, M.Knevitt & T.Clohesy
Adelaide Crows vs North Melbourne Kangaroos
I could make this preview just one line if I wanted to. The Kangaroos have never managed a win at Adelaide Oval and I don’t think that will change for this game. The Crows come into this game undefeated after a 61-point win against the Bombers in Melbourne.
The Kangaroos are also riding high after a decent win against the Demons. Many factors lead me to believe it will be a blowout win for the Crows, one of which is the fact they are completely injured. Not one player on their active list is injured! Take the Crows to cover the line.
Predicted Squads
Adelaide Crows - J.Worrell, M.Keane, R.Laird, W.Milera, N.Murray, M.Hinge, I.Cumming, J.Dawson, L.Sholl, B.Keays, R.Thilthorpe, I.Rankine, D.Fogarty, T.Walker, A.Neal-Bullen, R.O’Brien, J.Soligo, M.Crouch, J.Rachele, J.Peatling, M.Michalanney, D.Curtin & S.Draper
North Melbourne Kangaroos - C.Comben, A.Corr, L.McDonald, B.Scott, C.Daniel, C.McKercher, F.O’Sullivan, L.Davies-Uniacke, J.Simpkin, H.Sheezel, N.Larkey, R.Hansen Jr, P.Curtis, J.Darling, C.Zurhaar, T.Xerri, T.Powell, L.Parker, T.Pink, D.Tucker, W.Phillips, J.Konstanty & D.Stephens
West Coast Eagles vs Fremantle Dockers
The desperation is in the air as both teams come into this clash 0-2. The Eagles let the Lions run away with it in the first quarter, but they were able to claw back some respect. On the flip side, the Dockers were leading the Swans pretty much the entire game, except at the time it counted.
The games between these two clubs usually results in a blowout and the last six games have all been decided by 20 or more points. The Eagles just aren’t consistent enough and with the way the Dockers played against the Swans, I’ll be taking them to cover the line.
Predicted Squads
West Coast Eagles - B.Hough, H.Edwards, R.Maric, R.Ginbey, J.McGovern, L.Baker, J.Hunt, H.Reid, T.Dewar, N.Long, A.Reid, M.Owies, L.Ryan, O.Allen, J.Cripps, B.Williams, L.Duggan, T.Kelly, E.Hewett, T.Brockman, C.Hall, T.Cole & J.Petruccelle
Fremantle Dockers - C.Wagner, A.Pearce, B.Cox, L.Ryan, Q.Narkle, J.Clark, M.Johnson, J.O’Meara, N.O’Driscoll, J.Sharp, M.Frederick, S.Bolton, M.Reid, J.Treacy, J.Amiss, L.Jackson, C.Serong, A.Brayshaw, H.Chapman, B.Banfield, N.Erasmus, P.Voss & J.Draper
