Gold Coast Suns vs Hawthorn Hawks
The first game of Round 10 sees us head to Darwin with the Suns fourth-placed Suns taking on the third-placed Hawks. It looks like the Suns love playing up in Darwin and they have won their last seven games at TIO Stadium. The Suns will be looking to build off their win last time out over the Bulldogs, 106-96, while the Hawks come into this clash on a three-game winning streak.
Last time out, we saw the Hawks put together a fairly dominant performance over the Demons, winning 91-56. The Hawks look set to welcome back Tom Barrass into the fold and while they are a quality team, I can’t ignore the fact that the Suns love playing in Darwin and they have been up in Darwin this entire week as well. The Suns are good enough to get the job done.
Predicted Squads
Gold Coast Suns: M.Andrew, B.Uwland, S.Collins, J.Noble, W.Powell, D.Rioli, N.Holman, M.Rowell, B.Fiorini, B.Long, S.Flanders, T.Miller, J.Walter, J.Walter, B.King, N.Moyle, B.Humphrey, N.Anderson, B.Ainsworth, S.Clohesy, J.Jeffrey, M.Rosas & D.Swallow
Hawthorn Hawks: C.Jiath, J.Weddle, J.Sicily, J.Battle, J.Impey, M.D’Ambrosio, K.Amon, J.Ward, H.Morrison, B.Hardwick, N.Watson, D.Moore, C.Dear, M.Chol, C.Macdonald, N.Reeves, J.Newcombe, H.Hustwaite, J.Ginnivan, J.Worpel, F.Maginness, T.Barrass & B.Macdonald
Sydney Swans vs Carlton Blues
Two teams that are outside of the top eight and will both be desperate for a win. The Swans are sitting 14th on the ladder and have won just one of their last five. Meanwhile, the 10th-placed Blues are building some momentum, winning four of their last five, but playing at the SCG against the Swans is never an easy feat.
Backing the Blues consistently is a dangerous game, but you can’t knock the winning form they are bringing into this game. The teams they have beaten aren’t exactly at the top of the Premiership race, but they are winning the games they should. I think the Swans are good enough to get their season back on track here.
Predicted Squads
Sydney Swans: .Bice, T.McCartin, M.Roberts, S.Wicks, N.Blakey, D.Rampe, O.Florent, I.Heeney, J.Lloyd, B.Campbell, H.McLean, J.Jordon, W.Hayward, A.Francis, Co.Warner, B.Grundy, Ch.Warner, J.Rowbottom, T.Adams, J.McInerney, P.Ladhams, J.Hamling & A.Sheldrick
Carlton Blues: A.Saad, J.Weitering, L.Young, O.Hollands, M.McGovern, N.Haynes, S.Walsh, P.Cripps, E.Hollands, B.Acres, H.McKay, J.Motlop, C.Durdin, C.Curnow, W.White, T.De Koning, A.Cerra, G.Hewett, J.Silvagni, J.Binns, F.Evans, S.Docherty & C.Lord
Collingwood Magpies vs Adelaide Crows
The Magpies got an important win over the Dockers last time out, 97-83, but there are several injury concerns and they go up against the Crows on Saturday afternoon, who are currently fifth on the ladder. The two teams met in Round 10 of the 2024 season and the Pies got the job done at the MCG by just four points.
Both teams have been playing well as of late, with the Magpies winning four of their last five and the Crows heading into this game on a two-game winning streak. Despite the injuries, I can’t go against the Magpies, especially considering they are playing at home. I think the Crows will keep this one close though.
Predicted Squads
Collingwood Magpies: .Howe, D.Moore, B.Maynard, H.Perryman, B.Frampton, I.Quaynor, J.Crisp, S.Sidebottom, P.Lipinski, B.Hill, T.Membrey, S.Pendlebury, B.McCreery, M.Cox, J.Elliott, D.Cameron, N.Daicos, N.Long, J.Daicos, E.Allan, W.Hoskin-Elliott, L.Sullivan & O.Markov
Adelaide Crows: J.Worrell, J.Butts, R.Laird, W.Milera, M.Keane, M.Michalanney, I.Cumming, J.Dawson, M.Hinge, B.Keays, R.Thilthorpe, J.Rachele, D.Fogarty, T.Walker, A.Neal-Bullen, R.O’Brien, J.Soligo, I.Rankine, J.Peatling, D.Curtin, L.Nankervis, Z.Taylor & S.Berry
Port Adelaide Power vs Geelong Cats
Both the Power and Cats will be looking to get back into the winner’s circle in Round 10. The Power come into this clash on a two-game losing streak after going down to their cross-town rivals, 84-89. Meanwhile, the Cats suffered a four-point loss to the Giants last time out. Both teams have won three of their last five games.
Jack Henry is getting close to returning for the Cats and they really need him back on deck. I think the Cats are going to be a tough team to beat, but they do have a few injuries and they are on the road for this one. So, it’s surprising to me that the Power are the underdogs, there is value with the Power and I’m willing to take a risk.
Predicted Squads
Port Adelaide Power: La.Jones, A.Aliir, M.Bergman, C.Rozee, E.Ratugolea, K.Farrell, W.Drew, O.Wines, J.Burgoyne, D.Byrne-Jones, M.Georgiades, J.Mead, S.Powell-Pepper, O.Lord, J.Richards, D.Visentini, J.Horne-Francis, Z.Butters, J.Sinn, J.Finlayson, J.McEntee, R.Burton & C.Moraes
Geelong Cats: Z.Guthrie, S.De Koning, M.Duncan, O.Mullin, C.O’Sullivan, M.O’Connor, J.Bowes, M.Holmes, O.Dempsey, B.Close, S.Mannagh, G.Miers, J.Cameron, P.Dangerfield, S.Neale, M.Blicavs, B.Smith, T.Atkins, L.Humphries, O.Henry, T.Stengle, J.Bews & T.Stewart
GWS Giants vs Fremantle Dockers
The Giants got a much-needed victory over the Cats last time out, winning by just four points. It was a close game for pretty much the entire match, with several lead changes. But it was the Giants that were able to hold their nerve. For the Dockers, they have lost two games in a row now and sit outside of the top eight, in 11th position.
Are the Giants back on track now? I think so and playing at home will only help their chances. It is a difficult trip for the Dockers to make and there are a few Giants players who are in the frame to return in this clash on Saturday afternoon. The Giants have won the last two meetings between the two and I think they’ll make it three from three.
Predicted Squads
GWS Giants: C.Idun, S.Taylor, H.Himmelberg HB: L.Whitfield, J.Buckley, L.Ash, C.Ward, F.Callaghan, J.Wehr, X.O’Halloran, A.Cadman, M.Gruzewski, H.Thomas, J.Hogan, T.Greene, K.Briggs, T.McMullin, T.Green, C.Brown, J.Fonti, J.Riccardi, C.Angove & J.Delana
Fremantle Dockers: L.Ryan, A.Pearce, B.Cox, C.Wagner, K.Worner, J.Clark, J.Sharp, M.Johnson, M.Frederick, S.Bolton, S.Switkowski, I.Dudley, L.Jackson, J.Treacy, J.Amiss, S.Darcy, C.Serong, A.Brayshaw, P.Voss, M.Reid, H.Chapman, C.Simpson & N.Erasmus
Western Bulldogs vs Essendon Bombers
The Bulldogs and Bombers will do battle at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night. The Bulldogs are sitting in sixth place, while the Bombers are just outside the top eight, sitting in ninth place. Lewis Hayed ruptured his ACL last time out for the Bombers, so they will need to make at least one change. It looks like the Bombers are building nicely with four wins from their last five matches.
A battle against the Bulldogs will be no easy feat for the Bombers, though and the Bulldogs will be looking for a bounce-back performance after the Suns put an end to their three-game winning streak last time out. With all the confidence that the Bombers have, I think this will be a close match. The Bulldogs are the heavy favourites and I think the Bombers are good enough to cover the spread.
Predicted Squads
Western Bulldogs: L.Cleary, J.O’Donnell, L.Bramble, J.Johannisen, R.Lobb, B.Dale, B.Williams, E.Richards, J.Freijah, J.Harmes, B.Khamis, M.Kennedy, R.Sanders, A.Naughton, R.West, T.English, M.Bontempelli, T.Liberatore, S.Davidson, L.McNeil, C.Poulter, L.Vandermeer & H.Gallagher
Essendon Bombers: A.McGrath, B.McKay, J.Laverde, M.Redman, Z.Reid, J.Prior, X.Duursma, Z.Merrett, A.Day-Wicks, A.Perkins, N.Caddy, N.Martin, K.Langford, P.Wright, I.Kako, T.Goldstein, J.Caldwell, S.Durham, B.Hobbs, W.Setterfield, A.Roberts, S.El-Hawli & D.Shiel
Richmond Tigers vs North Melbourne Kangaroos
Two teams near the bottom of the table will open up Sunday’s AFL matches when the Tigers take on the Kangaroos at the MCG. The Tigers have a great opportunity to pinch another win after beating the lowly Eagles last time out, 81-79. Meanwhile, the Kangaroos put in an excellent performance last time out, but it wasn’t good enough for the win, only a draw, against the top of the table Lions.
With a performance like that, it’s easy to see why the Kangaroos are the favourites, but there is certainly no value there. The Kangaroos will need to back up their performance last time out to take down the Tigers and I’m not sure they can do that. I’m smelling an upset here and I’ll be playing it safe, taking the Tigers to cover the spread.
Predicted Squads
Richmond Tigers: N.Vlastuin, N.Balta, B.Miller, T.Brown, N.Broad, L.Trainor, T.Dow, S.Lalor, H.Ralphsmith, S.Green, J.Ross, S.Campbell, R.Mansell, T.Lynch, J.Faull, T.Nankervis, T.Taranto, J.Hopper, S.Banks, K.McIntosh, K.McAuliffe, T.Sims & J.Short
North Melbourne Kangaroos: N.Vlastuin, N.Balta, B.Miller, T.Brown, N.Broad, L.Trainor, T.Dow, S.Lalor, H.Ralphsmith, S.Green, J.Ross, S.Campbell, R.Mansell, T.Lynch, J.Faull, T.Nankervis, T.Taranto, J.Hopper, S.Banks, K.McIntosh, K.McAuliffe, T.Sims & J.Short
Brisbane Lions vs Melbourne Demons
After suffering a very surprising draw to the Kangaroos last time out, the Lions will be looking to show everyone why they are first on the ladder. They get back to their home ground, so you have to feel a little sorry for the Demons, who could be in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the Lions getting ready to send a message to the entire league.
The Demons had their three-game winning streak broken by the Hawks last time out, going down 56-91. They also have a stack of injury issues, so all signs are pointing to a Lions blowout victory. The Lions have won four of the last five meetings against the Demons and the one game they didn’t win was a one-point loss back in 2023.
Predicted Squads
Brisbane Lions: D.Zorko, J.Payne, R.Lester, N.Answerth, H.Andrews, D.Wilmot, J.Fletcher, H.McCluggage, C.McKenna, C.Cameron, E.Hipwood, Z.Bailey, C.Rayner, L.Morris, C.Ah Chee, O.McInerney, J.Dunkley, L.Neale, K.Lohmann, W.Ashcroft, L.Ashcroft, D.Fort & D.Gardiner
Melbourne Demons: J.Bowey, S.May, J.McVee, C.Salem, T.McDonald, T.Rivers, X.Lindsay, C.Petracca, E.Langdon, K.Chandler, B.Fritsch, T.Sparrow, C.Spargo, J.van Rooyen, K.Pickett, M.Gawn, C.Oliver, H.Langford, C.Windsor, D.Turner, M.Jefferson, H.Sharp & K.Tholstrup
West Coast Eagles vs St Kilda Saints
When will the Eagles be able to chalk up their first win of the season? I’m not sure it’ll come in Round 10. The Saints have some great young players who are showing great promise. Results haven’t really been going the way of the Saints, winning one of their last five games, but they have had a tough run of opposition, including the Lions, Giants and Bulldogs.
Last time out, the Eagles did play well enough against the Tigers, but it wasn’t good enough for their first win and they ended up going down 79-81. Despite the match being played at Optus Stadium, I think the Saints will get a fairly convincing win. I think the line that is being offered at the moment is quite generous and the Saints should be able to cover it.
Predicted Squads
West Coast Eagles: R.Ginbey, T.Cole, R.Maric, L.Duggan, S.Brock, L.Baker, J.Hunt, H.Reid, B.Hough, J.Cripps, J.Waterman, J.Hutchinson, J.Graham, A.Reid, L.Ryan, M.Flynn, E.Hewett, T.Kelly, T.Brockman, M.Owies, B.Williams, H.Edwards & T.Gross
St Kilda Saints: D.Howard, C.Wilkie, J.Webster, M.Windhager, N.Wanganeen-Milera, J.Sinclair, D.Wilson, L.Stocker, R.Byrnes, H.Garcia, B.Hill, M.Owens, C.Sharman, A.Caminiti, J.Higgins, R.Marshall, J.Macrae, J.Steele, M.Phillipou, H.Boxshall, M.Hall, L.O’Connell & L.Collard
