Can Bayern Munich turn their 2023/24 season around?

News Insights

  • Defending champions Bayern Munich are 8 points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
  • Defeats to Leverkusen and Bochum have ramped up the pressure on the squad.
  • Bayern also fell to an uninspiring 1-0 loss to Lazio in the Champions League last 16 1st leg.
  • Manager Thomas Tuchel looks to be under huge pressure to keep his job beyond this season.

Success is part of the DNA at Bayern Munich, with the Bavarian giants having enjoyed a stranglehold on the Bundesliga for over a decade.

However, despite all their riches, they are struggling to pick up results this season and their trials and tribulations continue to be tracked by domestic and international betting sites alike.

For any Bayern Munich fan, even the thought of them not winning the Bundesliga title at the end of the season is often beyond comprehension.

In every season since 2012, Bayern have lifted the Bundesliga title at the end of the campaign, with Champions League triumphs thrown in too in 2013 and 2020.

However, the 2023/24 campaign is at a real impasse, with the team struggling to pick up results and manager Thomas Tuchel seriously under the pump.

Three on the spin

Up until the beginning of February, Bayern Munich looked to have a relatively familiar feel about them. Whilst they hadn’t fired on all cylinders, they were continuing to pick up results and they remained in touch with the sides above them.

However, things have taken a dramatic nose dive over the past week or so, with poor performances linking in with poor results.

A 3-0 thumping at title rivals Bayer Leverkusen, was backed up with a limp showing in Rome, as they lost 1-0 to Lazio in the Champions League last 16 1st leg.

The 3-2 loss to VFL Bochum however was completely unexpected and chaotic, with fans and pundits asking what on earth is going on at Bayern Munich currently.

Finding the root cause

Whilst blips in any season are par for the course with any football team, the relative implosion endured by Bayern Munich is tough to explain.

The goals of Harry Kane have dried up a little, whilst Thomas Tuchel can’t find a way to get club legends Joshua Kimmich and Thomas Muller into his side regularly.

He needs to find the answer quickly though, with many punters and online betting sites speculating over Tuchel’s future come the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

It’s not too late

For all the conjecture and speculation surrounding Bayern Munich this season, the fact remains that they are still firmly in the hunt in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.

Clawing back an 8-point deficit is something they have done before to overcome the likes of Borussia Dortmund in Bundesliga title races and they will believe they can repeat the feat this term.

In addition, Bayern only trail 1-0 against Lazio in the Champions League and with the second leg at home at the Allianz Arena, they will feel they have what it takes to progress to the last 8.

Few football teams in the world court the attention that Bayern Munich do with punters and online betting sites and the German giants find themselves in a spot of bother.

With work to do in both the Champions League and the Bundesliga, Thomas Tuchel’s side need to turn the tide before the end of the campaign.
