GET ON - #9 Zloties

For my Saturday best bets, I like the chances of Zloties for good reason. With three consecutive placings, Zloties has shown its ability to stay competitive. On 12/04/2025, Zloties lined up at Bendigo, finishing 1st over 1400m. Backed at $2.25, jumped from barrier 4, and carried 56kg under Jordan Childs. The draw isn’t ideal, but with a clean jump, it can get into a good spot. With Jordan Childs on board, expect a tactically astute ride this Saturday. This jockey always brings out the best in their horse. Zloties is trained by G M Begg. The distance is a bit of a query as it hasn't won before over 1600m, but this could be the race. Has won half its races - dangerous if things go right. Watch out for it.

THREAT - #12 Spirit Of Camelot

Spirit Of Camelot is a well-priced contender with the ability to upset the field. Spirit Of Camelot has placed in three straight races, showcasing consistency and form. Spirit Of Camelot raced recently, placing 1st in a 1600m event at Morphettville. Jockey Todd Pannell guided the runner, carrying 57kg. Started at $1.95 odds. A favourable barrier that could help her avoid the need to cover extra ground. Luke Currie will guide Spirit Of Camelot and given their record, they’ll give the horse every chance to shine. Trained under the expert eye of Michael Hickmott, expect nothing less than top performance from Spirit Of Camelot. Has had success at 1600m before, could be a factor again. Proven performer on good tracks, recording 25% wins and 62.5% placings from 8 starts. Don’t count it out, could be a big contender.

ROUGHIE - #6 Wings Of Song

Wings Of Song is not among the favourites but has the ability to cause an upset. She struggled to make the top four last start, but showed glimpses of ability. Wings Of Song stepped out at Bendigo on 12/04/2025, finishing 5th over 1400m. Raced on a good surface, carrying 59kg under Jake Noonan. Not the perfect draw, but race-day tactics will be key. In the saddle will be Jake Noonan on Saturday. They are a skilled jockey that I have full confidence in. Wings Of Song is a product of Patrick Payne's exceptional training, and the results should speak for themselves. Has had some good results at Morphettville, so she has the ability to perform well again. Has the turn of foot to make an impact.

Morphettville - Race 7 (2000m)

#1 Too Darn Lizzie - $4.50

GET ON - #2 Benagil

Benagil is carrying high expectations but I think it can deliver. Was right in the mix last time out, finishing a strong second. Last outing, Benagil took on a 2000m race at Rosehill and finished 2nd. Carried 56kg, started at $12.00, and handled a soft surface. A tricky gate, but not a deal-breaker for a horse with this ability. This Saturday, Mark Zahra will be in the saddle and ready for a win. This race looks suitable for this tactical rider. With the experience and training of Glen Thompson, Benagil has everything it needs to succeed. Hasn’t cracked this distance yet, but stranger things have happened. I like the way it’s been going lately.

THREAT - #1 Too Darn Lizzie

Punters searching for value should take a close look at Too Darn Lizzie. Chased hard last start but had to settle for second place. Too Darn Lizzie competed at Moonee Valley over 1600m, finishing 2nd. Jumped from barrier 9, carried 59kg, and was ridden by Craig Williams. An outside gate could see it settle in a handy position. On board Too Darn Lizzie will be Blake Shinn, one of my favourite jockeys to bet on. Trainer Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott has carefully prepared Too Darn Lizzie for this event, and I believe she will give a strong account of itself. No wins yet on a good track, but I think it will handle it well. Could hit the line hard, watch for it late.

ROUGHIE - #5 Phenom

Phenom is one to watch at long odds – don’t underestimate its chances. Three consecutive placings highlight the form of Phenom and ability to stay near the front. Last start, Phenom finished in the placings over 1800m at Morphettville on 12/04/2025. Carried 55kg under Rochelle Milnes, started at $12.00. Track rated good. A deep gate often means avoiding congestion on the inside. Rochelle Milnes is in the saddle and in good racing form. This should be a dangerous combo. Having been trained by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, Phenom comes into this race well-prepared and confident. Hasn’t won at Morphettville yet, but might be ready to change that. If conditions suit, it’s a big player in this.

Climbing Star should be a standout selection for Saturday’s racing, here is why. A game third-place finish last race, battling to the line. The 7 Barrier might not be ideal, but it suits certain running styles. Jockey Lachlan Neindorf gets the ride on Saturday. They're a talented jockey with a solid race sense. Climbing Star has been under the guidance of Phillip Stokes. Has raced 5 times at this track, winning 2 times. This could be its time to shine.

THREAT - #2 Stretan Angel

At generous odds, Stretan Angel could be the value pick of the day. A solid fourth last start, displaying consistency and strength. Stretan Angel ran at Moonee Valley on 22/03/2025, finishing 4th in a 1200m event. Jockey Lachlan Neindorf was aboard, carrying 56.5kg. Track was rated soft. No proven record on good tracks, but has placed and could go one better. There’s no doubt that Thomas Stockdale is the right person for the job this Saturday. With a solid record, they’ll play a major role. Has been trained by Phillip Stokes and comes off some trial runs. Unproven at this distance (1200m) but could surprise with the right run. Will be running on.

ROUGHIE - #5 See You In Heaven

I think you should have your eyes on this outsider, here is why. Finished outside the top four, but continuing to develop as a competitor. Should get a smooth run from this gate, making it an advantage on race day. In top form this Saturday, Zac Spain has a knack for getting the best out of their horses. Could be another winning run. Trained by R & C Jolly. Competitive at this track, placing in 7 of 7 starts, with 4 wins. One to respect, has the ability to surprise.
