Favorites to Win the NBA Rookie of the Year

Chet Holmgren

Being the 2nd pick in any NBA draft always carries an extra sense of responsibly and scrutiny but Chet Holmgren has fully embraced the increased status he has held in the NBA this season. The former Gonzaga Bulldogs man has been a huge part of the success that his Oklahoma City Thunder side have had this season and his numbers have been impressive.

Hitting the ground running when transitioning from college basketball to the NBA is no easy task but Chet Holmgren has managed to do just that. Averaging over 17 points per game, in an Oklahoma City Thunder side that are well oiled, is a superb return and he has also put in plenty of match winning showings too.
Maintaining those standards until the end of the year will be the challenge but currently, Chet Holmgren does look like the man to catch in the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year race.

Victor Wenbanyama

Without question, the biggest coup ahead of the 2024 NBA season in the eyes of many NBA betting apps was Victor Wenbanyama joining the San Antonio Spurs. Whilst results on the court for the Spurs haven’t been anything to write home about, Wenbanyama has started to demonstrate in recent weeks, just why he was the number one pick in the draft.
Victor Wenbanyama’s season so far

Any rookie averaging over 20 points in the debut season, in a side that has only won 8 games would ordinarily be lauded over but Victor Wenbanyama has set high standards for himself and his new team. A 33 point return against the 76ers was hugely impressive in January and many punters and online betting sites will he hoping that he can continue to demonstrate that form for the remainder of the campaign.

Jaime Jaquez Jr

The progress of Jaime Jaquez Jr throughout the 2024 NBA season has intrigued many punters and NBA betting apps, as he has slowly but surely managed to force his way into the conversation surrounding the NBA Rookie of the Year. The small forward is currently out of action through injury, but he has made an impact at the Miami Heat this season.

Timing is everything in professional sport and whilst Jaime Jaquez Jr will be lamenting the fact that he is set for a spell on the Miami Heat sidelines, he will also know that his performances earlier in the season, leave him with plenty of credit in the bank. He will need to recover quickly though and put plenty more minutes on court if he is to be in the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year mix.

Ausar Thompson

Playing week in, week out, for a side that simply is not winning games is tough and that is the situation Ausar Thompson currently finds himself in at the Detroit Pistons. Thompson has been contributing on a personal level, showing glimpses of his potential but both he and the Pistons look to be in a bit of a rut currently.
Ausar Thompson’s season so far

Being the 5th pick in the NBA draft always carries a sense of gravitas and Ausar Thompson hasn’t perhaps dealt with the extra scrutiny too well at times this season. That said, the Detroit Pistons do need somebody to inspire them, as they look to turn their season around, and how Ausar Thompson would love to be that man.

Our Prediction

In what looks to be a two-horse race to be crowned the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2024, Chet Holmgren looks to have edged ahead in the eyes of many NBA betting apps

Having become a key part of an Oklahoma City Thunder team, who are not only playing with confidence, but who are winning games regularly, Holmgren’s consistently meaningful contributions could well see him crowned the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year.
